Chapter 420
As soon as Yvette heard those words, her heart skipped a beat. Her face turned pale, and a wave of panic washed over her. She glanced around the room, desperately seeking someone who might come to her aid, but found no one.
โHey, you all better stop right there! If you disturb my grandpa, Iโll make sure you get thrown out!โ Gideon warned. โThe Baker family can easily hire a few security guys!โ
โGideon, is that how you treat your future in-laws?โ someone from the Jansen family retorted.
โGuys, you go after the old man; weโll keep this guy busy!โ
โYour family is loaded, and you offer such a measly dowry? Of course, we donโt agree!โ
Voices clashed in the air as a group of people surrounded Gideon, while others made their way toward Eamon.
Calliope had been chatting with some guests when, out of the corner of her eye, she noticed the commotion heading toward Eamon. Her brow furrowed.
โExcuse me, I need to take care of something,โ she said, quickly excusing herself as she jogged over to where Eamon was.
The ruckus caused by the Jansen family drew the attention of many guests, who turned to watch the spectacle unfold between Gideon and the Jansens.
Though the Jansens had dressed up for the wedding, it was clear they didnโt quite fit in with the more affluent crowd, no matter how hard they tried.
โWho are they?โ someone whispered.
โAre they the brideโs family?โ
โNo way, and theyโre already causing a scene at the wedding?โ
โHow tacky!โ
โFleur, you better check on your son. This is getting out of hand!โ someone advised.
Fleur, who had been mingling with guests, turned at the warning. Her heart sank as she saw Gideon surrounded by the unruly Jansens, and she could hear snippets about the money. Under the sun, the scene was chaotic.
Her face turned ashen. Her worst fear was happening. The Jansen family seemed utterly ungrateful; she had given them plenty, yet they were still causing trouble! She regretted ever inviting them.
Fleur hurried over to Gideon, and upon spotting Yvette, she slapped her across the face without hesitation.
Yvette, in her wedding gown, her veil catching in the breeze, was left stunned by the slap, as were all the Jansens. The surrounding guests fell silent, their eyes glued to Yvette.
That slap must have stung terribly, they all thought. This wedding had turned into something none of them expected.
Yvette was in shock, struggling to process what had just happened.
Fleur, however, didnโt bother scolding the Jansens directly; she directed her anger at Yvette instead.
โYvette, who do you think you are? There are plenty of women who would jump at the chance to marry our Gideon. You think heโs desperate to marry you?โ
โBelieve me, if you donโt marry him today, I can find someone else by tonight! There are countless women who would love to be with him, and youโre the least of them!โ
โAfter everything weโve given you, all that money, and you act like this? We can change the bride right now! Now, return the money to me, every cent of it! If thereโs even a penny missing, Iโll call the police and have you all locked up!โ
Yvette turned pale as a ghost. She knew Fleur might be saying this just to calm her family down, but there was truth in her words.
If Gideon chose not to marry her, there were plenty of women who would. But her options were not as plentiful.
The Jansen family seemed to be intimidated, and nobody dared to make a move.
โDad, Mom, do you want the money back, or should I just get this wedding over with peacefully?โ Yvette asked coldly, turning to face them.
