Chapter 457
โIf you want to keep it, Iโll help you hold onto it,โ Silas said affectionately. โItโs just a house. If they need that land, Iโll find them another plot.โ
He reached out and gently touched her cheek, his eyes radiating warmth and tenderness.
Calliope shook her head. โNo, itโs fine. Grandpa always said that if they needed it, we should just let them have it. The folks there were always good to us when we lived there. Now that Grandpaโs gone, and I donโt visit much anymore, I should honor his wishes. Iโm sure it would make him happy. But I need to go back and sort through some things.โ
Silas nodded. โWhenever youโre ready to go, Iโll come with you.โ
Calliope nodded back. โMaybe in a few days. Iโd like to make it there before the year ends. I still have some things to wrap up with the Jewell Group and other matters.โ
As she spoke, something else crossed her mind.
โI need to travel abroad the day after tomorrow.โ
โIs everything okay?โ Silas asked, his brows furrowed slightly.
โOne of my patients had some accident and needs my attention,โ Calliope explained. โIโll be back as soon as the treatment is done, probably in two or three days.โ
โAlright, is there anything you need me to prepare for you?โ Silas looked at her, his deep-set eyes full of deep affection, the kind that could make anyone want to fall for him.
Calliope met his gaze and shook her head.
โTheyโve got everything ready for me.โ
โThatโs good. Just be safe while youโre traveling.โ Silas gently ruffled her hair as he gazed at her. โAnd remember, you have a husband whoโs just a call away if you need anything, okay?โ
His eyes were filled with such tenderness and love.
Calliope smiled, her eyes crinkling at the corners, and leaned into Silasโs embrace. โWill you miss me? If I go abroad, I might think of you.โ
The more time she spent with Silas, the more she loved being close to him. If she could, sheโd stick by his side every moment. Especially knowing there had once been someone important to him, someone whose fate was uncertain. It made her a little uneasy at times, afraid of losing him. She never dared to ask too much, fearing it might drive him away.
Even though he treated her so well, she sometimes wondered why. Was he this kind to everyone? Or was it just because she reminded him of that woman? Was she just a stand-in for that woman?
But such questions were best left unasked. Asking too much could lead to conflict. Everyone has their past, just like she never talked about having been reborn. Silas didnโt know that she had died once.
After dinner, they took a stroll in the backyard and played with Snowy for a while. Million, having been sent to Eamon, had taken quite a liking to him, and the feeling was mutual, so Million stayed with him for the time being.
Calliope petted Snowyโs head. Snowy, much like a big cat, rubbed against her palm.
Damien and a few others were also in the yard.
Seeing how gentle Snowy was with Calliope was a bit of a marvel.
โThe lady of the house, indeed. Snowy never acts this calm around us!โ
โYeah, and weโre the ones who feed Snowy every day!โ
โHeartless thing!โ
The group jokingly grumbled about Snowy.
