Chapter 51
Fleur and Gideon wore expressions of utter disbelief. Monty and others couldnโt believe their eyes as they stared at the necklace around Calliopeโs neck. Who would have thought Silas would be so extravagant? Could it be that she and Silas were actually serious?
Theyโd heard rumors that the two had gotten a marriage license and that Calliope had moved into the Myers Manor, but would Silas really be serious about Calliope? A man like Silas could have any woman he wanted, after all. What on earth could Calliope possibly offer him?
Lisette looked as if sheโd swallowed something foul, struggling to comprehend that Silas would actually gift such a necklace to Calliope. How could Silas possibly like Calliope? She didnโt exactly have the best reputation, which the Baker family was well aware of, especially since Lisette herself had helped spread some of those rumors. So, naturally, Fleur didnโt like Calliope either. But Silas gifting her something so valuable? It was mind-boggling.
Had Silas lost his mind? Or did Calliope have some kind of leverage over him? Otherwise, why would he marry her and shower her with such gifts? No, this couldnโt be from Silas. Lisette quickly settled on what seemed to be the most logical explanation. She looked at Calliope with feigned concern, โSis, did you find some leverage on Mr. Myers? You need to know, Mr. Myers isnโt just anybody. Heโs known to be ruthless. If youโve got something on him, you might have him cornered now, but youโre playing with fire! I think you should return the jewelry to Mr. Myers and clear things up.โ
She put on a worried face, subtly hinting to everyone else that Silas couldnโt possibly be this fond of Calliope. Even though these things were in her possession now, given Silasโs nature, he could take them back anytime. When that happened, Calliope would have to pity her wretched fate.
โDear fake angel, if youโre jealous, thatโs fine by me. But if your jealousy is driving you to delusions, maybe you should see a doctor,โ Calliope chuckled. โItโs not healthy to be so upset over other peopleโs happiness.โ
โIโฆโ Lisetteโs face turned a shade of crimson.
Zelda was eyeing the necklace and the ring on Calliope, thinking Silas really went all out. This set could probably match the Jewell familyโs entire worth. Of course, she didnโt believe Silas was serious about Calliope either. Who knew, maybe the jewelry would mysteriously disappear, and Silas would turn the tables on them.
โCalliope, even if Mr. Myers did give you these things, flaunting them like this isnโt appropriate. What if you get robbed parading around like that? And can you really threaten Mr. Myers? Do you think youโre worthy of him? If anyone deserves him, itโs Lisette!โ
Calliope found Zeldaโs words amusing. โDo you think itโs up to you to decide who Silas likes? How about I give him a call, and you can tell him yourself that Lisette is a better match, and he should divorce me immediately?โ
Seeing Calliope actually reaching for her phone, Zelda panicked. โI didnโt mean it like that! Calliope, I donโt know whatโs really going on between you and Silas, but I doubt he truly intends to marry you. Donโt get your hopes up.โ
