Chapter 54

If Calliope married her son, she naturally thought she could handle any future daughter-in-law issues with ease. Worst-case scenario, she figured she could secure her shares and then orchestrate a divorce.

After all, it was tough for a woman to find a new partner post-divorce, but someone as exceptional as Gideon? Heโ€™d have no problem.

Fleur tried to keep her composure, forcing a smile that was more pitiful than pleasant. โ€œI was wrong before, and Iโ€™m here to apologize!โ€

โ€œJust a verbal apology?โ€ Calliope pouted. โ€œWords donโ€™t mean much to me. Surely, a nice gift is in order, right? A little compensation for emotional damages? Youโ€™ve hurt me, and Iโ€™ve been dispirited for quite a while!โ€

She looked at Fleur, then at Gideon. โ€œYou think a simple โ€˜sorryโ€™ suffices after causing so much distress? Shows a lack of sincerity.โ€

With gritted teeth, Fleur reluctantly pulled out her phone. โ€œAlright, I was wrong. I apologize. Hereโ€™s a little something for you!โ€

She transferred a thousand dollars to Calliope.

Calliope glanced at the screen. โ€œWhat is this, some pocket change?โ€

Fleur was on the verge of losing her cool, but Gideon held her back. She forced another smile and transferred twenty thousand dollars to Calliope.

Only then did Calliope beam, โ€œThanks, I wonโ€™t be shy about accepting it. Consider it my emotional damages payment.โ€

After that, she turned her gaze to Gideon. โ€œAnd you?โ€

Gideon took a deep breath. โ€œCallie, all my money is yours. Whatever you want, Iโ€™ll give it to you.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t need much. Just compensate me for the years of anguish. Letโ€™s say fifty thousand a year for five yearsโ€ฆ thatโ€™s two hundred fifty thousand, but that doesnโ€™t sound right. Letโ€™s round it to three hundred thousand.โ€

Calliope smiled sweetly.

โ€œYou!โ€ Fleur was fuming, thinking Calliope was being outrageously greedy.

โ€œAlright, Iโ€™ll give it to you.โ€

Gideon quickly made the transfer, and soon enough, Calliope received the confirmation. Pleased, she nodded. โ€œAlright, I forgive you for all the past grievances!โ€

โ€œAnd what about you guys?โ€ Calliope turned to face the rest. โ€œYouโ€™ve caused me plenty of headaches too, right? Youโ€™ve probably received quite a few favors for inviting me today. Now that Iโ€™m here, shouldnโ€™t I get a cut?โ€

Her bright eyes shifted from Zelda to Monty, then to Lisette.

Montyโ€™s eyelid twitched. โ€œHow much do you want?โ€

If it wasnโ€™t for the sake of keeping her and Gideon together, he wouldnโ€™t even consider giving her money.

Calliope raised her hand, showing five fingers.

โ€œAt least this much. Theyโ€™ve already given me over three hundred thousand. Youโ€™re my real parents; it canโ€™t be less than that, right?โ€

Monty was speechless.

โ€œYouโ€™re asking for an absurd amount!โ€ Zelda was livid. โ€œWhat contribution have you made? Why should we give you so much? Lisette has worked tirelessly for the company without asking for nearly that much!โ€

โ€œWorked tirelessly or worked to bleed the company dry?โ€ Calliopeโ€™s lips curled upward. It was as if she could see right through Lisette.

Lisetteโ€™s heart lurched. Calliope had barely set foot in the company. After initially joining, Calliope had been kicked out for botching several projects and hadnโ€™t been involved with Jewell Group since. How could she possibly know what she had been secretly up to?

โ€œCallie, youโ€™re such a joker,โ€ Lisette laughed awkwardly.
