Chapter 57
Gideonโs face was a masterpiece of conflicting emotions. He glanced at Calliope as if he didnโt recognize her. He had assumed she was going to sweet-talk him, maybe even apologize. After all, she loved him so much, didnโt she?
Was she still mad? Did she really just treat him like that?
Gideonโs eyes were a swirl of emotions as he looked at Calliope. โCalliopeโฆโ
โMr. Baker, youโd better treat our lady with respect, or Iโll have to take action.โ Damien stood firm, his expression stony, ready to step in at any moment.
Gideon knew how formidable Damien was. As Silasโs bodyguard, Damien rarely intervened, but when he did, nobody could withstand his attack.
Gideon didnโt want to get hit by Damien, nor did he want any trouble with Silas. Reluctantly, he got out of the car with a huff. Once outside, he realized he was on a deserted road, not a taxi in sight. Gideonโs expression grew even darker.
Damien shut the car door, got back in, and drove away, leaving Gideon standing there, watching the carโs taillights disappear into the night.
Calliope! Sheโs been acting like a lunatic lately. All because he didnโt show up at the wedding? Was this really necessary? He pulled out his phone and called for someone to pick him up.
When Gideon finally dragged himself home, exhausted and fuming, he was greeted by Fleur, who gave him a curious look.
โGideon, back already? You just left not long ago.โ She had barely made it home before her son returned. Had Calliope agreed to his terms so quickly? It wasnโt impossible; she was always a pushover, willing to settle for peanuts.
Gideon didnโt respond, his face set in a grim mask as he changed his shoes and headed inside. Fleur soon noticed his foul mood.
โWhatโs wrong? Didnโt reach an agreement with her? Sheโs already taken the money. Surely, she canโt still refuse to marry you, right?โ Fleur frowned. โIs Calliope really that shameless?โ
โIโm tired. Iโm going upstairs to rest,โ Gideon muttered, before trudging up to his room, still seething.
Meanwhile, Zelda and the rest had returned home too. Having barely had anything, the three asked the housekeeper to whip up a meal. At the table, Zelda couldnโt shake a nagging feeling. โHoney, do you think she reached an agreement with Gideon? Weโve taken Fleurโs perks, and if they didnโt settle things, Fleur might want them back.โ
Lisette, too, was perplexed. When had Calliope gotten so shrewd? Both families had tried to appease her, yet she remained steadfast. In the past, not even Gideonโs affairs and mistreatment could drive her away. She was hopelessly devoted to him, a textbook case of blind love.
Could someone like that really change overnight?
โShe loves Gideon so much, and sheโs taken the money and the dinner. Surely, sheโll come around and be good with Gideon,โ Monty chimed in. โThough, I must say, that dinner was quite a hit to the walletโฆ thatโs a lot!โ
Zelda shot Monty a look. โI just feel like sheโs not quite the same.โ
โSheโs always had that temper,โ Monty shrugged. โAlright, letโs just eat.โ
Calliope returned to the Myers Manor, feeling pretty good. Damien had invited the guys over for a feast, and she mingled with them, chatting away for a while.
