Chapter 67
โEqually, you say? Then why donโt you take a look at their rooms? Check out what kind of room Callie sleeps in compared to Lisetteโs. And while youโre at it, maybe you should recall how each of their birthdays were celebrated.
โOh, and perhaps you should consider how much pocket money you give Lisette versus how much Callie has ever received. Did you pay for her tuition? Do you even know which school she graduated from?โ
Silasโs tone was as icy as a winterโs chill, laced with a simmering anger.
Even though he wore his emotions like a well-fitted suit, Monty could sense Silas was furious.
โLisetteโs youngerโฆ shouldnโt Callie just let her have her way? Besides, Callieโs always been the odd one, never expressing when sheโs upset about something. How am I supposed to know everything?โ
Silas didnโt reply immediately.
After a moment of silence, he said, โFagan, show Mr. Jewell out.โ
โBut Mr. Myers, you havenโt told me how weโre handling the sign issue!โ Monty furrowed his brows.
โThe sign? Iโll have it pulled. But make sure your foster daughter doesnโt set foot in my company again. If Callie doesnโt like someone, I donโt either.โ
After that, Monty was ushered out of the car.
As the vehicle sped away, Monty rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on.
This Callie, now that sheโd got Silas backing her, couldnโt wait to run to him with complaints!
Yet, Silas seemed rather protective of Callie. Maybe it was time to mend fences with her. If Jewell Group could partner with Baker Group, the future would be worry-free.
As Monty returned home, Silasโs words โtake a look at their roomsโ echoed in his mind. He then found himself standing at the door to Lisetteโs room.
โDad, something up?โ Lisette looked up from her book, her door ajar, a warm smile on her face. Monty glanced around without replying.
Lisetteโs room was the largest in the house, with the best view and a huge balcony. Every fitting and fixture in her room was top-of-the-line.
He remembered when Callie first came to live with them, she stayed in this very room. But then, how did it become Lisetteโs?
It was after Lisette moved in. One day, she was caught staring at Callieโs room. She never outright said she wanted it, and just stood there watching.
Later on, they realized she fancied the bigger room. They talked to Callie, who was understanding, and she gave up the room to Lisette without a fuss. Thus she ended up in a much smaller room.
It never seemed like an issue until now, but looking back, Callie really got the short end of the stick. She was about the same age as Lisette, yet she spent all those years in the tiniest room.
โDad?โ Lisette called again.
โOh, right. Just wanted to let you know, I spoke with Mr. Myers. Heโs pulling the sign.โ
Monty glanced at Lisette. โLisette, you donโt have any thoughts on Mr. Myers, do you?โ
Lisetteโs expression shifted immediately. โDid Mr. Myers say something?โ
โNothing really,โ Monty shook his head. โBut Mr. Myers is your brother-in-law. Best to steer clear of any drama with him.โ
Monty turned and walked away. He found himself wandering to the room Callie used to occupy.
Callieโs room was tucked away in the far corner of the house, small and lacking a walk-in closet or even a private bathroom. She must have been quite uncomfortable all these years.
