Chapter 78
Gideon kept his mouth shut. When someone was powerful enough, even their wrongs were perceived as rights. Silas was one of those people.
Gideon felt a chill run down his spine. Still, he forced a smile. โI know you donโt care much about this, but regarding Callie, I know she came to you for help. Please, let us handle this ourselves. As an elder, itโs not really appropriate for you to get involved.โ
โYou were the one who let her go, and sheโs the one who came to me,โ Silas replied. โShe doesnโt want to go back to you, and I wonโt let her either. Gideon, Callie is my wife now โ not just in name but in every sense. So sheโs your aunt-in-law, really. Stop coveting her shares or hoping sheโll come back to you. And one more thing, donโt trouble her. If you so much as harm a hair on her head, I can make sure you never return to the Baker Group.โ
His voice carried a weight that was hard to ignore. Gideon was taken aback, staring at Silas in disbelief.
โUncle Silas, isnโt this a bit much? Callie was my girl, and now youโre competing with your nephew for a woman? Itโs laughable for the outsiders.โ
โWhoโs going to laugh?โ Silas raised an eyebrow.
โButโฆโ Gideon looked at Silas, and then something clicked. โYou twoโฆ you didnโt actuallyโฆ consummate the marriage, did you?โ
โIs there a problem? My wife and I are very much in love, and we plan to have kids. Canโt handle that?โ
Silasโs sharp gaze bore into Gideon.
Gideon was stunned. Calliope had slept with Silas?
They had been together for so long, and yet nothing had ever happened between them โ not even a kiss. And now she was intimate with Silas? The wedding was held not long ago; how could she have forgotten him so quickly? Impossible!
โDid you force her?โ Gideon couldnโt believe it; Calliope couldnโt possibly love Silas. She loved him.
โWhat makes you think youโre better than me?โ
โUncle Silas, this is outrageous!โ Gideon seethed with anger. โWhat gives you the right?โ
โBecause I am Silas. Are we done here? If you are, you can leave. Donโt let me catch you harassing Callie again.โ Gideon stood there, stunned for a long moment. He shook his head, clenching his teeth. โUncle, how is this right?โ
Silas ignored him, signaling Fagan to show him out.
Gideon stormed out, his face a mask of fury.
โQuentin, Norton, Julius!โ
Calliopeโs eyes reddened the moment she saw her three brothers. She had missed them so much.
In her previous life, things hadnโt ended well for any of them. They had always done their best to protect her, yet she had let them down terribly.
But now, she had been given a second chance. She could change things, make amends.
โWhatโs the matter?โ
โDid someone from the Jewell family give you trouble?โ
Quentin and Julius almost flipped their lid.
โNo, I just missed you all,โ Calliope said, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. โQuentin, can I have a hug?โ
She looked at Quentin with an expression so full of longing.
โSilly girl, of course you can.โ
Quentin smiled tenderly, opening his arms wide. Calliope rushed into his embrace, then moved to hug Norton and Julius in turn.
Only when she was holding them did she feel at peace. Hearing their heartbeats, she knew her brothers were alive and well.
