Chapter 86
Quentin let out a sardonic laugh. โNo man would ever leave his bride at the altar to run off with another woman.โ
โThatโs because Yvetteโs in danger!โ Gideon said, furrowing his brows with a touch of exasperation. โI owe her, and I canโt just ignore that. Itโs just a wedding, for crying out loud! I donโt believe she canโt manage without me there. Everythingโs ready, she can come up with some excuse!โ
Thinking about it still got under Gideonโs skin. Calliope, how could she turn on him like that? She claimed to love him, yet at the wedding, she married his uncle, leaving him humiliated. And now, she wouldnโt even give him the time of day. Her attitude toward him had completely changed. Now, her brothers were confronting him about it, and he felt like the victim!
โFeeling sorry for yourself, are you?โ Julius was amused, looking at Gideon. โWe might not have been around Callie much these past years, but we know everything she did for you! Callie loved you so much, and you broke her heart. Donโt you realize that?โ
โGideon, Callie has no idea weโre here today, and you better keep it that way. Weโre here to warn you. Since you didnโt marry Callie, stay away from her. If we find out youโre still bothering her, you better watch out.โ
Norton stepped forward and suddenly landed a punch on Gideon. Julius followed with another. Gideon was caught off guard, left dazed by the blows.
โAre you guys nuts?โ
โNot nuts, but we donโt mind going a little crazy when it comes to protecting Callie. Let this be a reminder, sheโs got us looking out for her!โ
With that, they left. Gideon was seething with anger. He rubbed his swelling face, feeling more humiliated than he ever had before. Damn Calliope!
At the office, Yvette was startled by the sight of Gideonโs bruised face.
โGideon, what happened to you? Did someone hit you?โ
โCalliopeโs brothers!โ Gideon snapped angrily.
โBrothers?โ Yvette paused, puzzled. โI thought the Jewell family wasnโt fond of her. Why would they hit you over her? You were on better terms with them, right?โ
โNot them!โ Gideon said, exasperated.
โHuh?โ Yvette looked confused.
โNever mind, Iโm fine. You donโt need to worry about me.โ Gideon massaged his cheek. โYou can leave now.โ
As Liora entered from outside, she cast a discreet glance at Yvette before focusing on Gideonโs face.
โMr. Baker, are you alright?โ
โIโm fine. Can you find out where Calliope is? Iโd like to see her this noon,โ Gideon instructed Liora.
Yvette, just about to exit, froze in place. She had thought Gideon had moved on from Calliope, but here he was, still obsessed with her. She believed that after spending the night with him, sheโd matter to him and easily slide into the role of his wife. Damn! Calliope was a constant thorn in her side.
Calliope slept in until noon, planning to grab some lunch at Kirin Fondue. As soon as she walked in, she came face to face with Gideonโs sour expression. She rubbed her eyes, wondering if she was seeing things. Calliope was on the verge of just walking away.
