Chapter 88

โ€œI mean, whatโ€™s wrong with having a healthy relationship with my husband? Jealous much because you canโ€™t have it? My husband is better than you in every way, even there, his is bigger than yours! Yeah, he knows how to make me happy! Weโ€™re a perfect match, unlike youโ€“three seconds and youโ€™re done!โ€

Calliope let out a dismissive laugh. โ€œWhatโ€™s the matter, Gideon? Things not going well with Yvette in bed? Feeling unfulfilled and taking it out on me? Maybe you should see a doctor about your prostate issues. Your impotence is not my problem!โ€

Gideonโ€™s face flushed with fury at Calliopeโ€™s words. He lunged forward, grabbing Calliopeโ€™s chin with a grip that betrayed his frustration and resentment.

โ€œWhat did you say? Impotent? Why donโ€™t you try me and see how formidable I really am?โ€

Calliope glanced down nonchalantly, her eyes lingering below Gideonโ€™s belt. โ€œNo need for that, really. Itโ€™s pretty tiny, obviously youโ€™re not up to the task.โ€

โ€œYou! Calliope, you make me sick! Are you just desperate to be bonked? Would any man make you happy? Youโ€™re such a slut!โ€

Calliope remained unruffled, patiently waiting for Gideon to finish his tirade before lifting her gaze. โ€œAbsolutely, with anyone but you. Even if you paid me, I wouldnโ€™t want you.โ€

โ€œYouโ€ฆโ€

Gideon looked utterly defeated. He had approached Calliope intending to have a proper conversation, but his anger got the better of him, and somehow she ended up humiliating him instead.

No man liked to be told he was impotent! But she kept insisting he was, and it was driving him insane.

โ€œCalliope, youโ€™ll regret this. Youโ€™re going to pay for provoking me,โ€ Gideon began to threaten.

โ€œOh? And what would be the price?โ€ Calliope looked interested.

โ€œBelieve me, Iโ€™ll marry Yvette,โ€ Gideon fumed, his teeth clenched.

โ€œReally? Well, congratulations!โ€

Calliope looked at Gideon, his expression a painful reminder of the love she once felt, which now felt like pricking needles.

This was the man she had once loved deeply. Although she was thoroughly disappointed in him, emotions didnโ€™t just disappear overnight.

She felt a mixture of heartache and irony, and pitied her past self for being so blind.

Calliopeโ€™s smile didnโ€™t reach her eyes as she gave Gideon a once-over. โ€œIsnโ€™t Eamon hosting everyone for dinner at the family house this Sunday? You might want to mention it to him then.โ€

He claimed he didnโ€™t love Yvette. Yet here he was, planning a wedding.

Ridiculous.

In a previous life, it was her who had ruined his chance for a happily-ever-after with Yvette.

โ€œYouโ€ฆโ€ Gideon hadnโ€™t expected Calliope to be so calm, without a hint of jealousy.

โ€œWhat about me?โ€ Calliope raised an eyebrow. โ€œIโ€™m congratulating you, and youโ€™re still not pleased?โ€

โ€œCalliope, youโ€™ve changed. I donโ€™t even recognize you anymore.โ€

โ€œWe were never that close to begin with,โ€ Calliope said with a sarcastic smile directed at Gideon.

Her long hair cascaded down her back, and her features were strikingly beautiful, even in her simple attire. There was an indescribable allure about her.

Perhaps it was just his imagination, but she seemed more beautiful than before.
