Chapter 368

โ€œBoba teaโ€™s here. Letโ€™s go inside,โ€ Hayden said, balancing the fruit in his hands. He didnโ€™t ask about Wade, but I knew heโ€™d probably seen everything. I wasnโ€™t in the mood to explain, so I followed him inside.

Yunaโ€™s face lit up as I entered. โ€œKeira! I waited for you to get here before drinking mine!โ€

Hayden set the fruit down in the kitchen. I glanced at him before going to Yuna.

โ€œIโ€™ve got everything ready!โ€ she exclaimed, gesturing to the drinks on the table, her eyes sparkling. But I couldnโ€™t even think about drinking. โ€œYou can have mine,โ€ I said, my heart heavy.

โ€œReally?โ€ Yunaโ€™s eyes widened, and she laughed. โ€œIโ€™m not that greedy.โ€ Even so, she began dividing the drinks. โ€œWhyโ€™d it take you so long? Hayden was worried. He went looking for you as soon as he put away the groceries.โ€

โ€œI ran into a friend,โ€ I said, a half-truth.

โ€œYou have so many friends. I hope I can make more someday,โ€ Yuna said, sliding a boba toward me.

โ€œYou will, Yuna. You have such a great personality,โ€ I said, forcing a smile as I took a sip.

She was already sipping hers. โ€œThis flavor is so good! There are so many I want to tryโ€ฆโ€

โ€œKeira?โ€ She waved her hand in front of my face. โ€œAre you okay? You seem out of it.โ€

Before I could answer, she called out, โ€œHayden, come check on Keira!โ€

Hayden appeared with a plate of cherries and strawberries. โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong?โ€ he asked, placing his cool hand on my forehead. His hand was still damp from washing the fruit, and the touch was calming. โ€œIโ€™m fine,โ€ I said, pulling him to sit beside me.

Ignoring Yuna, I leaned into Haydenโ€™s shoulder. โ€œI went to see Narelleโ€”Wadeโ€™s advisor.โ€ I didnโ€™t need to explain further; Hayden already knew the story.

โ€œDid something happen?โ€ he asked softly.

I nestled closer, letting his calm energy soothe me. โ€œNarelle is about to be dismissed. Wade is distraught, and I feel terrible too.โ€ No one deserves to be abandoned, but clinging to hope for Narelle no longer seemed realistic.

Hayden remained silent, rubbing his cheek against my head in quiet support.

โ€œWe all need to be okay,โ€ I whispered, gripping his arm tighter. I glanced at Yuna. She sat quietly, her boba tea forgotten. I reached for her hand, and she took it, squeezing gently.

โ€œKeira, whatโ€™s wrong with Narelle?โ€ Yuna asked.

โ€œSheโ€™s been ill for a while. She hasnโ€™t woken up,โ€ Hayden answered softly, trying not to overwhelm her.

But Yuna was sharper than that.

โ€œIs she in a coma?โ€ Yuna asked, her voice serious.

Hayden quietly murmured, โ€œMm.โ€

Yuna scooted closer, holding both our hands. โ€œThereโ€™s something I need to tell you.โ€

Her sudden shift in mood caused Hayden and me to exchange a glance. She was usually so playful; seeing her like this worried us both. I sat up, ready to hear what she had to say.
