Chapter 414

Of course I was going. I didnโ€™t even have to think about it. That amusement park? It was practically my baby โ€“ two years of blood, sweat, and tears. It held so many of my hopes, regrets, andโ€ฆ maybe even my second chance. The second I got the invite, old memories hit me like a movie reel that wouldnโ€™t quit.

โ€œCan I bring someone with me?โ€ I asked Jace.

There was a pause. โ€œHayden?โ€

I stayed quiet, and he let out a low laugh. โ€œBring whoever you want. Justโ€ฆ make sure you come.โ€

That was new. Before, Jace would have tried to charm me into coming alone. No compromise. But now? He was different.

โ€œThanks,โ€ I said, about to hang up, when his voice stopped me.

โ€œRea, my parents will be there tomorrow, tooโ€ฆ Weโ€™ll be waiting for you.โ€ His words carried a weight, like he wanted to make sure I couldnโ€™t back out.

โ€œOkay,โ€ I agreed.

But he didnโ€™t hang up. It felt like there was more he wanted to say, but he held back. I didnโ€™t push it. In the end, I was the one who ended the call.

The amusement parkโ€™s grand opening was everywhere. Ads on every platform, every digital billboard. They were going all out. No surprise โ€“ RiverwaveCorp had always been a powerhouse, and Jace? His business sense was solid. No matter what went down between us, I couldnโ€™t deny that. Wayneโ€ฆ he just couldnโ€™t compete. Jace had always outshone him.

โ€œKeira, isnโ€™t that the park where you and Hayden first fell in love?โ€ Yuna asked, nodding toward the TV ad.

I blinked. โ€œWas it?โ€

โ€œNo,โ€ Hayden said, flat as ever.

Yuna, not giving up, leaned in. โ€œThen where?โ€

Hayden didnโ€™t answer, so I filled in. โ€œIt was in Chiverton. Remember? That cute little courtyard I told you about.โ€

Hayden shot me a weird look but stayed silent. When he headed to the kitchen, I followed. โ€œDid I say something wrong?โ€

โ€œYeah,โ€ he muttered.

โ€œYeah?โ€ I repeated, confused.

He glanced at me, his voice low. โ€œIt was when you kissed me for the first time.โ€

Chapter 41.4

Wait, what? My brain flashed back to that kiss, but before I could fully go there, Hayden added, โ€œYou probably donโ€™t remember. You were a little kid back then.โ€

Suddenly, his words unlocked a memory I didnโ€™t even know I had. A moment that felt like a dream โ€“ but it wasnโ€™t a dream at all. It was real. A forgotten memory. Iโ€™d already had this manโ€™s heart, even back then.

I couldnโ€™t help but laugh. โ€œA kiss? From a kid? You took that seriously?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not kidding,โ€ Hayden said, dead serious. โ€œWhen you kissed me back then, I knew. I knew you were the one for me.โ€
