Chapter 427

The crowdโ€™s gasps echoed around me as I watched Tanya inch closer to the edge of the rooftop. I didnโ€™t scream, but my heart jumped to my throat. Seeing her teeter like that made my skin crawl. It was like my whole body was on high alert, even though I wasnโ€™t the one standing there.

This wasnโ€™t about her, though. It was about the sheer horror of watching someone flirt with danger like that. I knew what it meant: Jace had made it to the roof.

I couldnโ€™t hear a word from down here, just watching helplessly, until someone nudged me. โ€œMiss, your phoneโ€™s ringing.โ€

Snapping out of it, I grabbed my phone. Jace. Why would he be calling me now? Unlessโ€ฆ

It had to be Tanya making him do it.

I answered. Jaceโ€™s voice was tight. โ€œRea, can you bring my dad up here?โ€

I could have gone, but why did he need Matthew, too? His health was shaky, and whatever Tanya had planned, it wouldnโ€™t be good for him. I couldnโ€™t let her drag him into this mess.

Glancing up at Tanya, wobbling on the edge, my stomach clenched. I hung up and made my way through the crowd, heading for the elevator. But I didnโ€™t tell Matthew. I was going up alone.

As the elevator climbed, my mind raced, trying to figure out Tanyaโ€™s angle. Was she planning to use us against Jace?

The moment I stepped onto the rooftop, the wind slapped me in the face, icy and sharp. Jace was already there, eyes locked on me, but I focused on Tanya. She was glaring at me, too.

One of the firefighters asked her, โ€œIs this who you wanted?โ€

โ€œThereโ€™s one more,โ€ Tanya snapped.

โ€œItโ€™s just me. Matthewโ€™s not feeling well,โ€ I said, shutting down whatever she had in mind.

Tanyaโ€™s expression twisted in annoyance, and she jabbed a finger in my direction. โ€œYou, come here!โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll come, but leave Keira out of this,โ€ Jace cut in, his voice steady but tense.

Tanya laughed. โ€œAre you scared Iโ€™ll drag her down with me?โ€

Chapter 428

Of course, he was scared. And honestly, so was I. Iโ€™d already figured out she was going to try and use me or Matthew as leverage. Now, it was obvious.

โ€œThis has nothing to do with Keira,โ€ Jace said, trying to keep things calm.

โ€œNothing to do with her?โ€ Tanyaโ€™s voice cracked. โ€œEverything I wantedโ€”she ruined it all!โ€

Her words were filled with desperation. She glared at me like I was the villain in her story. โ€œKeita, are you coming over here or not? If you donโ€™t, Iโ€™m jumping.โ€

Yeah, I wasnโ€™t moving. No way I was letting her pull me into her mess. Even with the safety nets below, I wasnโ€™t about to gamble with my life for her. And for what? To die because of her drama? Please. People would probably say I had it coming. โ€œWhy should I care if you jump?โ€ I shot back, smirking.

Everything went dead silent. Even the firefighters froze. One of them muttered, โ€œDonโ€™t provoke her.โ€

Tanyaโ€™s face twistedโ€”she hadnโ€™t seen that coming. She thought we were all scared, that weโ€™d play her game. She didnโ€™t expect me to be thisโ€ฆ icy.

โ€œKeira Kay, this is all your fault!โ€ she screamed.

โ€œYou stole my fiancรฉ, and now youโ€™re acting like the victim? Seriously, Tanya Twain, where do you get off?โ€ I shot back, my voice steady as I took slow steps forward.

โ€œIf Jace really loved you, he wouldnโ€™t have been with me,โ€ Tanya spat, not even a hint of shame.

I glanced at Jace, whose face was pale, his jaw tight.

โ€œYeah, well, I never claimed he loved me. I lost him to you a long time ago. Is that why you dragged me up here? To rub it in?โ€

Jace shot me a look, clearly shocked. Tanya, caught off guard too, just stood there, speechless.

For a second, the whole rooftop was still. Then, suddenly, she let out a piercing scream.
