Chapter 465

Normally, hospital results took forever, but this time, everything was moving in fast-forward. The doctorโ€™s face brightened. โ€œThis is good. We need to start the transfusion right away. Heโ€™s going to need at least 400cc, maybe even 600cc, of blood. Can you handle that?โ€

โ€œYes, even more if needed,โ€ I answered without hesitation. I had to save Jace. Even if his injury wasnโ€™t my fault, I couldnโ€™t let him bleed out.

They got me into sterile scrubs and rushed me into the emergency room. Seeing Jace lying there, pale and still, hit me hard. The doctorโ€™s wordsโ€”โ€œcritical conditionโ€โ€”kept playing in my head.

My chest tightened as I walked to him, hooking my pinky around his like he had done earlier. โ€œJace, hang in there,โ€ I whispered. He had to fight. And I had to give him what he needed.

I laid down on the bed next to his, feeling the prick of the needle as my blood started flowing through the tube, straight into Jace. I lost track of how much they took. All I could see was my blood leaving me, until my vision started to blur and exhaustion crept in.

I knew I was losing too much blood, but I couldnโ€™t stop. Jace needed me.

โ€œWeโ€™ve already taken 600cc,โ€ the assistant doctor said, checking the numbers.

โ€œBut his blood pressure and oxygen levels arenโ€™t stable yet. We need more,โ€ the head doctor said, glancing at me.

Before he could ask, I cut him off. โ€œKeep going. Iโ€™m fine.โ€

โ€œIf we take more, you could pass out,โ€ the assistant warned.

โ€œI wonโ€™t. Iโ€™m fine,โ€ I insisted, forcing a smile. โ€œJust do it.โ€

The assistant doctor glanced at the head doctor. โ€œHow much more do we need?โ€

โ€œAt least 200cc.โ€

He turned back to me, voice low. โ€œYouโ€™re sure you can handle it?โ€

โ€œI can,โ€ I said, trying to sound more confident than I felt.

With a reluctant nod, he added, โ€œIf you feel dizzy or have trouble breathing, you have to tell us.โ€

โ€œI will,โ€ I promised.

They exchanged another look before continuing the transfusion. I felt the blood drain out of me, and with every minute, my eyelids got heavier. Staying awake was getting harderโ€”I was so tired, so out of it.

But I couldnโ€™t sleep. If I did, theyโ€™d stop, and Jace wouldnโ€™t get enough blood. I couldnโ€™t let that happen.

I bit down on my lip, using the pain to keep my eyes open, though I wasnโ€™t sure how much longer I could hang on.

Finally, I heard the doctorโ€™s voice. โ€œHis vitals have stabilized. We can stop now.โ€

The second I heard that, I couldnโ€™t hold on anymore. My eyes closed, and I slipped into unconsciousness.

Even in the haze, I could hear them talking nearby.

โ€œThey must be a couple. Why else would someone risk their life like that?โ€

โ€œYeah. And having the same rare blood type? Itโ€™s unreal. One gets hurt, the other saves them.โ€

โ€œIf they didnโ€™t plan this, maybe itโ€™s fate.โ€

โ€ฆFate?

Iโ€™d lived with Jace for ten years and never knew we had the same blood type. But if it was fate, then why had we been torn apart?
