Chapter 50
Jacรฉ was silent for a long time, then nodded mockingly. โIf youโre doing that just to throw a fit, go ahead.โ
Even now, he didnโt believe he was wrong. He still blamed me.
I couldnโt be bothered to argue. โIโll move out of your familyโs house.โ
โMy family house?โ Jaceโs dark eyes narrowed. โRea, you never really saw it as home, did you? My parentsโ love for you was just wasted.โ
I pressed my lips together. He didnโt understand; it wasnโt his parentsโ love I needed; it was his.
I had already decided to break up with him, so arguing was pointless.
โMr. Johnston, I have work to do,โ I said, omitting my resignation, intending to finish the amusement park project first.
โAre you seriously breaking up with me?โ Jace asked again.
Perhaps he hadnโt heard me the first time. I looked at him, the face Iโd admired for ten years, and gave my final answer. โYeah, Jace, Iโm breaking up with you. From now on, weโre done. Weโll marry other people and have nothing to do with each other.โ
He let out a bitter laugh. โFine, you said it. Donโt regret it.โ
โRegret?!โ
This was the second time heโd mentioned it. I had no idea how he could be so confident.
Perhaps it was because of my ten years of foolish devotion, trailing behind him like a lost puppy, enduring his coldness and neglect without ever leaving.
โGoodbye,โ I said, turning to leave.
Jace didnโt stop me. Just as I reached the door, there was a knock.
I opened it and was surprised to see Tanya.
Her eyes flashed with panic, but she smiled warmly. โKeira, youโre back?!โ
I stared at the document in her hand, focusing on the red RiverwaveCorp header. I couldnโt believe it. Anything with a red header was for RiverwaveCorp insiders only.
I was already shocked she was here, but her possessing company documents was unbelievable.
Tanya shifted uncomfortably under my gaze. โI came to drop off some files for JaceโI mean, Mr. Johnston.โ
Her addressing him as โMr. Johnstonโ made it clear: Jace hadnโt just given her a place to stay; heโd brought her into the company, too.
Demi hadnโt mentioned any of this. Perhaps she was too busy, or simply didnโt want to upset me.
But it didnโt matter now. Whether Jace brought Tanya into the company or even married her, it wasnโt my problem anymore.
โPlease move, I need to get through,โ I said.
I wasnโt trying to be rude to a pregnant woman, but it was proper to let people out before entering.
Tanya moved aside, and I walked out quickly.
As the door shut, I heard Jaceโs voice, โWhy didnโt you tell me Keira went to Splendor Heights?โ
I didnโt care how Tanya explained it. It didnโt matter to me anymore.
When I got back to the office, Demi rushed over. โKeira, you went to Mr. Johnstonโs office. What did you talk about? Did you two make up?โ
โWhat do you think?โ I shot back.
Demi nervously grabbed my arm. โIโm sorry, Keira. I didnโt mean to keep it from you. I was just worried youโd be upsetโโ
โAnd afraid Iโd get distracted from work, which would get you into trouble too, right?โ I finished for her. โIโm really sorry, Keira.โ
