Chapter 50

Jacรฉ was silent for a long time, then nodded mockingly. โ€œIf youโ€™re doing that just to throw a fit, go ahead.โ€

Even now, he didnโ€™t believe he was wrong. He still blamed me.

I couldnโ€™t be bothered to argue. โ€œIโ€™ll move out of your familyโ€™s house.โ€

โ€œMy family house?โ€ Jaceโ€™s dark eyes narrowed. โ€œRea, you never really saw it as home, did you? My parentsโ€™ love for you was just wasted.โ€

I pressed my lips together. He didnโ€™t understand; it wasnโ€™t his parentsโ€™ love I needed; it was his.

I had already decided to break up with him, so arguing was pointless.

โ€œMr. Johnston, I have work to do,โ€ I said, omitting my resignation, intending to finish the amusement park project first.

โ€œAre you seriously breaking up with me?โ€ Jace asked again.

Perhaps he hadnโ€™t heard me the first time. I looked at him, the face Iโ€™d admired for ten years, and gave my final answer. โ€œYeah, Jace, Iโ€™m breaking up with you. From now on, weโ€™re done. Weโ€™ll marry other people and have nothing to do with each other.โ€

He let out a bitter laugh. โ€œFine, you said it. Donโ€™t regret it.โ€

โ€œRegret?!โ€

This was the second time heโ€™d mentioned it. I had no idea how he could be so confident.

Perhaps it was because of my ten years of foolish devotion, trailing behind him like a lost puppy, enduring his coldness and neglect without ever leaving.

โ€œGoodbye,โ€ I said, turning to leave.

Jace didnโ€™t stop me. Just as I reached the door, there was a knock.

I opened it and was surprised to see Tanya.

Her eyes flashed with panic, but she smiled warmly. โ€œKeira, youโ€™re back?!โ€

I stared at the document in her hand, focusing on the red RiverwaveCorp header. I couldnโ€™t believe it. Anything with a red header was for RiverwaveCorp insiders only.

I was already shocked she was here, but her possessing company documents was unbelievable.

Tanya shifted uncomfortably under my gaze. โ€œI came to drop off some files for Jaceโ€”I mean, Mr. Johnston.โ€

Her addressing him as โ€œMr. Johnstonโ€ made it clear: Jace hadnโ€™t just given her a place to stay; heโ€™d brought her into the company, too.

Demi hadnโ€™t mentioned any of this. Perhaps she was too busy, or simply didnโ€™t want to upset me.

But it didnโ€™t matter now. Whether Jace brought Tanya into the company or even married her, it wasnโ€™t my problem anymore.

โ€œPlease move, I need to get through,โ€ I said.

I wasnโ€™t trying to be rude to a pregnant woman, but it was proper to let people out before entering.

Tanya moved aside, and I walked out quickly.

As the door shut, I heard Jaceโ€™s voice, โ€œWhy didnโ€™t you tell me Keira went to Splendor Heights?โ€

I didnโ€™t care how Tanya explained it. It didnโ€™t matter to me anymore.

When I got back to the office, Demi rushed over. โ€œKeira, you went to Mr. Johnstonโ€™s office. What did you talk about? Did you two make up?โ€

โ€œWhat do you think?โ€ I shot back.

Demi nervously grabbed my arm. โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Keira. I didnโ€™t mean to keep it from you. I was just worried youโ€™d be upsetโ€”โ€

โ€œAnd afraid Iโ€™d get distracted from work, which would get you into trouble too, right?โ€ I finished for her. โ€œIโ€™m really sorry, Keira.โ€
