Chapter 511

โ€œKeira, can you come to the library? I have something to tell you,โ€ Yuna asked over the phone.

Could I really handle more tonight?

โ€œMaybe another day. Iโ€™m a bit tired,โ€ I replied, hoping sheโ€™d let it go.

She hesitated, and I felt a flicker of guilt. โ€œIs it important?โ€ I asked, almost against my will.

โ€œYeah, it is,โ€ she said softly, almost unsure. โ€œKeira, I can come to you if thatโ€™s easier.โ€

Great, now she was determined. Maybe sheโ€™d found out about Hayden and me, and this was her intervention.

โ€œYunaโ€”โ€

โ€œJust send me your address, so I can grab a cab,โ€ she cut in, and I could hear her gathering her things in the background.

I looked out at the downpour, biting back a sigh. Getting a cab right now was impossible, and the last thing she needed after her transplant was to risk getting sick. Even though Hayden and I had split, I couldnโ€™t just abandon her. Not until she had someone else to lean on.

โ€œNevermind,โ€ I said, resigned. โ€œIโ€™ll come to you.โ€

โ€œOkay, Iโ€™ll wait,โ€ she replied, sounding way too pleased.

After hanging up, I gave the driver the libraryโ€™s address, and we swung around in the pouring rain.

When I got there, the place was practically emptyโ€”just a few people scattered around. Yuna was easy to spot, sitting by the window, gazing out like she was in some kind of trance.

She mustโ€™ve heard my footsteps because she turned, her eyes lighting up as she waved me over.

โ€œYou didnโ€™t get drenched, did you? Itโ€™s coming down hard,โ€ Yuna asked, giving me a worried look.

โ€œIโ€™m good,โ€ I said, dropping into the seat across from her. I noticed all the books in front of her were closed, untouched.

Remembering how Iโ€™d spotted her here with Wade last timeโ€”and how Iโ€™d low-key wondered if there was something going onโ€”I gave her a grin. โ€œWhereโ€™s your study buddy today? Going solo?โ€

Yuna pressed her lips together, staying quiet. The look on her face told me this wasnโ€™t about me and Haydenโ€”it was her turn to spill.

โ€œWhy so serious?โ€ I asked, raising an eyebrow.

โ€œI lied to you last time,โ€ she said softly.

I just nodded, not shocked; Iโ€™d kinda figured.

A blush crept up her cheeks as she muttered, โ€œIโ€™m sorry.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s fine. You called me here to come clean, right?โ€ I leaned in, cutting to the chase.

Yuna nodded. โ€œActuallyโ€ฆ I like him. I liked him from the second I saw him.โ€

A weird, heavy feeling settled in my chest. Still, I kept my tone even. โ€œWhatโ€™s his name?โ€

She glanced at me. โ€œWade Smith.โ€

The name made me tense upโ€”somehow I wasnโ€™t surprised. So, it really was him. I knew enough about Wadeโ€™s love story to know he wasnโ€™t exactly the type to fall head-over-heels on a whim. Even if he did, it wouldnโ€™t be easy.

Seeing the sadness in Yunaโ€™s eyes, I could guess what mightโ€™ve happened, but I still asked, โ€œAnd what about him? Does he like you too?โ€

Yuna shook her head, then quickly added, โ€œI mean, itโ€™s not that he doesnโ€™t like meโ€ฆ Itโ€™s just, I donโ€™t know if he does.โ€

I leaned back, giving her a look. โ€œDid you actually tell him how youโ€ฆโ€

Her cheeks flushed, and the awkwardness was all over her face. In that moment, I got it. โ€œSo, you confessed to him, huh?โ€

She nodded.

I studied her for a second. โ€œAnd he turned you down?โ€
