Chapter 569

My heart literally skipped a beat. Wait, Hayden brought Yara with him? Are they, like, permanently glued together now or something?

Herman caught my reaction and smirked. "Your eyes are way more expressive," he said, like he'd just cracked some code. With that, he turned and started walking toward the door. I swallowed, trying to shake off the dryness in my throat, then followed him.

When I first got here, Iโ€™d been knocked out cold and dragged in like a rag doll. But now? I was sitting in this ridiculously fancy car, staring out the window. The scenery? Meh. My brain couldnโ€™t focus on anything.

When the car finally stopped, I turned to Herman, my heart doing flips. "Whyโ€™d you bring me to a hospital?"

"To visit someone," he said, his eyes narrowing like he could read my mind.

โ€œWho?โ€ My voice was tight.

He leaned in close, his gaze locking on mine. โ€œSo nervous youโ€™re worried about Hayden?โ€

He hit the nail on the head. Of course, I was worried about him.

โ€œArenโ€™t you two done? You said you hated him. So, why do you care now? Or is your breakup just some big show? A little act to fool everyone?โ€ he asked, like he was dissecting me.

My pulse raced, but I didnโ€™t back down. โ€œJust because weโ€™re not together anymore doesnโ€™t mean I stopped caring.โ€

He stayed quiet, his eyes boring into me like he was trying to figure me out. After a beat, he pulled back and got out of the car. โ€œYouโ€™ll find out soon enough. Whether itโ€™s him or not, youโ€™ll know when you walk inside.โ€

But I stayed put. โ€œIf itโ€™s him, Iโ€™m not going in.โ€

โ€œAnd whyโ€™s that?โ€ Hernan chuckled.

โ€œBecause heโ€™s got a fiancรฉe with him. Iโ€™m just his ex. Donโ€™t need to make things awkward.โ€

Herman licked his lips with a cocky little grin. โ€œI love how you set boundaries. Butโ€ฆ.youโ€™re still going in.โ€

โ€œAnd if I donโ€™t?โ€ I shot back, ready for a fight.

Herman extended a hand, totally unfazed. โ€œThen Iโ€™ll carry you in.โ€

I stared at him wide-eyed, then shot him a death glare. The last thing I wanted was for him to carry me in front of Hayden. No way.

But as I stepped out, a tiny voice in my head was like, Maybe it wouldnโ€™t be so bad. Let Hayden see Iโ€™ve got options.

That thought was gone as fast as it came. I wasnโ€™t that thick-skinned.

As we walked in, I started noticing how people were looking at usโ€”some even pulled out their phones to snap pics. I instinctively tried to dodge, but Hernan just laughed. โ€œTheyโ€™re just in awe of us.โ€

A second later, one of his bodyguards handed him a phone. Hernan glanced at it, then showed me the screen. I couldnโ€™t believe my eyesโ€”we looked like we were walking down a runway, totally in sync, like we were straight out of a fashion magazine.

I couldnโ€™t help but notice how well my outfit seemed to match his. It was like we were meant to be a power couple.

โ€œNot bad. Double your bonus this month,โ€ Hernan said, casually waving the phone away as the guard took it back.

โ€œSeriously, with your looks, you could totally make it in showbiz. Want me to make you a star?โ€ he asked like it was no big deal.

I just stared at him.

โ€œWhy are you looking at me like that?โ€ he smirked.

โ€œHerman, seriously? Youโ€™re acting like youโ€™re using me as some pawn, but youโ€™re kinda spoiling me,โ€ I said, the question that had been bugging me finally slipping out.

He paused for a moment, then gave me a thoughtful look. โ€œMaybe I just think youโ€™re easy on the eyes.โ€

I opened my mouth, then closed it, totally caught off guard.

โ€œLetโ€™s go,โ€ he said, taking my hand and leading me toward the hospital room.
