Chapter 590

Initially, there was a man standing beside me, dressed in a tuxedo, holding me close. I was in a wedding gown, glowing like a fairytale bride. My smile was soft, joyful, like I was the happiest person in the world. But his faceโ€ฆ it was just a blank. No details, no featuresโ€”nothing. The groom was a mystery.

Was it Jace? Had Wayne started this when I was planning to marry him? Maybe it was meant to be a gift for us. Orโ€ฆ was it Wayne himself? I had a strong feeling it was the latter.

The whole room was full of portraits of meโ€”memories of my life. If I couldnโ€™t figure out Wayneโ€™s feelings after seeing all of this, then I was completely clueless.

Standing there, I felt a sinking realization. Wayneโ€™s feelings for me ran way deeper than I ever realized. And theyโ€™d been there a lot longer than Iโ€™d imagined.

I let out a heavy sigh. This room, filled with memories and emotions, was starting to feel stifling, making it hard to breathe. To be lovedโ€”especially to be deeply loved by someone you donโ€™t love backโ€”can sometimes feel like a tremendous burden.

I couldnโ€™t stay there anymore. In the end, I hurriedly left the room. In fact, I regretted staying here in Wayneโ€™s villa, and I regretted even more discovering this secret of his. But he probably wouldnโ€™t know, right? After all, heโ€™d set a password on the door, never expecting me to get in.

With a hint of self-deception, I hurried downstairs, just as Lizzy was finishing up her cleaning. She looked at me with a polite smile. โ€œMiss Kay, is there anything else you need help with?โ€

โ€œNo, thank you,โ€ I replied, my voice sounding hollow as I walked over to the couch and sat down. My heartbeat was erratic, my thoughts scattered. Lizzy noticed my mood right away. โ€œAre youโ€ฆ okay?โ€

I shook my head lightly. She nodded toward a room on the first floor. โ€œThat roomโ€™s ready for you. You can rest if you like.โ€

โ€œAlright. Iโ€™ll stay here for a bit.โ€

Lizzy didnโ€™t press further. She gave me one last concerned look before leaving. And with the silence came a growing unease. I didnโ€™t want to be there anymore, but I couldnโ€™t just leave without a planโ€”especially not after everything that had happened.

I reached for my phone to call Jace, but before I could dial, my screen lit up. It was the person Iโ€™d asked to check on Demi. I answered quickly. โ€œDid you find her?โ€

โ€œYes, Ms. Kay, we found her, butโ€ฆโ€ The voice on the other end trailed off.

My breath hitched. โ€œBut what? Where is she?โ€

โ€œMs. Kayโ€ฆ Ms. Young attempted suicide. Sheโ€™s in the hospital now.โ€

The words hit me like a punch to the gut. My mind went blank.

โ€œWhat happened?โ€ It took me several seconds to find my voice again.

โ€œSheโ€™s stable, but her mental state isnโ€™t good. As for whyโ€ฆ weโ€™re still trying to figure that out.โ€

I felt like I was drowning. โ€œAre any of her family there? Can I talk to someone?โ€

โ€œSure, Iโ€™ll see if I can put her mom on the line.โ€

A moment later, an older womanโ€™s voice came on the line. It was low, careful. โ€œHello?โ€
