Chapter 62
โHayden Hart?! Isnโt he just a taxi driver? How did he end up being the lighting engineer Iโve been waiting for?โ
For a second, I felt like I was hallucinating.
โHayden, this is Keira Kay!โ Eugene introduced us. โMs. Kay, this is Hayden Hart.โ
Hayden extended his hand. โHello, Ms. Kay.โ His tone and expression suggested he didnโt know me at all.
Still seated, I could see his perfect jawline and that sexy Adamโs apple Iโd thought about more than once. Demi nudged me, snapping me back to reality. I stood up and shook his hand. Our fingers barely brushed before he said, โMs. Kay, go ahead and eat. Iโll go check the site.โ
โNo need, Iโll come with you,โ I said, ready to follow, but he didnโt move. He turned to Eugene. โHave you eaten? I havenโt had anything yet. Is there something to eat here?โ Eugene smiled. โIโve already eaten,โ he glanced at me. โWe can order takeout.โ
Catching his drift, I said to Demi, โDemi, order some takeout for Mr. Hart.โ
โSure,โ Demi replied, quickly pulling out her phone. โMr. Hart, what would you like? A burger, taco, or pasta?โ
Hayden pointed at my half-eaten takeout. โIโll have the same as that.โ
I was eating spicy beef pasta, which Iโd asked Demi to order. Hayden was from the southern part of Kehlmark; he shouldnโt be used to this. Yet he wanted the same.
โAlright, thatโs a specialty here. Didnโt expect you and Keira to have the same taste,โ Demi muttered as she placed the order.
I cleared my throat awkwardly and looked at Hayden and Eugene. โSo, should we nowโฆโ
โEat first. You need to be full to have the energy to work,โ Hayden said, dropping his large backpack and pulling out a half-drunk bottle of water. He tilted his head back and took a few gulps.
Watching his Adamโs apple move, I couldnโt help but swallow too.
The takeout would take at least twenty minutes. Holding his water bottle, Hayden said, โYou keep eating; weโll go check over there first.โ He then walked away with Eugene. Demi nudged me again. โKeira, Mr. Hart is so handsome, so manly.โ
People are suckers for good looks, and Demi had taken a liking to him at first sight. I had to admit, she had good taste.
โDonโt you already have a boyfriend?โ I asked, still slurping my pasta.
Demi giggled. โThat doesnโt stop me from looking for a little fun. Besides, once the lighting setup is done, heโll be gone. Nothing will get in the way.โ
I nearly choked, floored that someone as seemingly proper and unassuming as Demi had such flirtatious thoughts.
โPlayer!โ I exclaimed. โKeep those thoughts in check. Donโt mess around.โ
โWhatโs the point of staying here for a month without a little fun? Donโt worry, I promise I wonโt cross any lines,โ Demi said, clearly determined to pursue Hayden.
I thought about what Hayden had said earlier and shook my head.
Haydenโs takeout arrived in twenty-two minutes, during which Demi talked about him non-stop. I believed in love at first sight after seeing Demi.
I couldnโt help but think, if Demi dumped her boyfriend for Hayden, would that make me feel partly guilty? Honestly, I had a feeling Hayden wouldnโt even be interested in Demi.
To prevent her from getting hurt, I decided to intervene. โHe already likes someone else,โ I said.
โHmm?โ Demi raised an eyebrow. โHow do you know? Do you know him?โ
If I said I knew him, Iโd have to reveal more than I wanted to.
