Chapter 62

โ€œHayden Hart?! Isnโ€™t he just a taxi driver? How did he end up being the lighting engineer Iโ€™ve been waiting for?โ€

For a second, I felt like I was hallucinating.

โ€œHayden, this is Keira Kay!โ€ Eugene introduced us. โ€œMs. Kay, this is Hayden Hart.โ€

Hayden extended his hand. โ€œHello, Ms. Kay.โ€ His tone and expression suggested he didnโ€™t know me at all.

Still seated, I could see his perfect jawline and that sexy Adamโ€™s apple Iโ€™d thought about more than once. Demi nudged me, snapping me back to reality. I stood up and shook his hand. Our fingers barely brushed before he said, โ€œMs. Kay, go ahead and eat. Iโ€™ll go check the site.โ€

โ€œNo need, Iโ€™ll come with you,โ€ I said, ready to follow, but he didnโ€™t move. He turned to Eugene. โ€œHave you eaten? I havenโ€™t had anything yet. Is there something to eat here?โ€ Eugene smiled. โ€œIโ€™ve already eaten,โ€ he glanced at me. โ€œWe can order takeout.โ€

Catching his drift, I said to Demi, โ€œDemi, order some takeout for Mr. Hart.โ€

โ€œSure,โ€ Demi replied, quickly pulling out her phone. โ€œMr. Hart, what would you like? A burger, taco, or pasta?โ€

Hayden pointed at my half-eaten takeout. โ€œIโ€™ll have the same as that.โ€

I was eating spicy beef pasta, which Iโ€™d asked Demi to order. Hayden was from the southern part of Kehlmark; he shouldnโ€™t be used to this. Yet he wanted the same.

โ€œAlright, thatโ€™s a specialty here. Didnโ€™t expect you and Keira to have the same taste,โ€ Demi muttered as she placed the order.

I cleared my throat awkwardly and looked at Hayden and Eugene. โ€œSo, should we nowโ€ฆโ€

โ€œEat first. You need to be full to have the energy to work,โ€ Hayden said, dropping his large backpack and pulling out a half-drunk bottle of water. He tilted his head back and took a few gulps.

Watching his Adamโ€™s apple move, I couldnโ€™t help but swallow too.

The takeout would take at least twenty minutes. Holding his water bottle, Hayden said, โ€œYou keep eating; weโ€™ll go check over there first.โ€ He then walked away with Eugene. Demi nudged me again. โ€œKeira, Mr. Hart is so handsome, so manly.โ€

People are suckers for good looks, and Demi had taken a liking to him at first sight. I had to admit, she had good taste.

โ€œDonโ€™t you already have a boyfriend?โ€ I asked, still slurping my pasta.

Demi giggled. โ€œThat doesnโ€™t stop me from looking for a little fun. Besides, once the lighting setup is done, heโ€™ll be gone. Nothing will get in the way.โ€

I nearly choked, floored that someone as seemingly proper and unassuming as Demi had such flirtatious thoughts.

โ€œPlayer!โ€ I exclaimed. โ€œKeep those thoughts in check. Donโ€™t mess around.โ€

โ€œWhatโ€™s the point of staying here for a month without a little fun? Donโ€™t worry, I promise I wonโ€™t cross any lines,โ€ Demi said, clearly determined to pursue Hayden.

I thought about what Hayden had said earlier and shook my head.

Haydenโ€™s takeout arrived in twenty-two minutes, during which Demi talked about him non-stop. I believed in love at first sight after seeing Demi.

I couldnโ€™t help but think, if Demi dumped her boyfriend for Hayden, would that make me feel partly guilty? Honestly, I had a feeling Hayden wouldnโ€™t even be interested in Demi.

To prevent her from getting hurt, I decided to intervene. โ€œHe already likes someone else,โ€ I said.

โ€œHmm?โ€ Demi raised an eyebrow. โ€œHow do you know? Do you know him?โ€

If I said I knew him, Iโ€™d have to reveal more than I wanted to.
