โ€œDoes he?โ€ Wayne shot back.

Chapter 680

Cole chuckled, waving Xander forward. โ€œYou tell me. Or do you need to look closer to figure it out?โ€

Xander stepped closer, stopping just shy of Jace and Wayne. At this distance, they could see everythingโ€”every line, every feature, every little detail. And so could I. My breath hitched, and that voice deep in my chest screamed louder than ever: He was Hayden.

โ€œYouโ€™ve really gone all out for this. Whereโ€™d you dig up someone like him?โ€ Jace sneered.

Coleโ€™s smile didnโ€™t waver. โ€œFate,โ€ he said casually, then turned to me. โ€œWouldnโ€™t you agree?โ€

I didnโ€™t bite. My eyes stayed on Xander, searching, digging past the surface, desperate for even the faintest sign that he was Hayden.

โ€œXander,โ€ Cole said, finally cutting to the chase, โ€œMs. Kay has taken quite a liking to you. She wants to keep you. What do you say?โ€

Xanderโ€™s answer was sharp and direct. โ€œMr. Drago, you know my rules. I donโ€™t provide those kinds of services.โ€ The implication landed hard. Wayne and Jaceโ€™s faces darkened immediately.

Cole turned back to me with an exaggerated shrug. โ€œSee? Told you. Heโ€™s not going for it.โ€

Xander gave a polite nod. โ€œIf thereโ€™s nothing else, Iโ€™ll take my leave.โ€ He turned, ready to walk away.

Lena gave me a firm squeeze that silently said: Donโ€™t give up.

โ€œWait,โ€ I called out, rising from my wheelchair without hesitation.

Before anyone could stop me, I closed the gap between us in two quick steps, reached out, and hooked my arm around Xanderโ€™s neck. Standing on my tiptoes, I leaned in, my lips close to his ear.

โ€œRea, what the hell are you doing?โ€ Jaceโ€™s angry voice cut through the room.

โ€œSheโ€™s flirting,โ€ Lena quipped.

While their voices clashed in the background, my hand drifted to Xanderโ€™s neck, fingers brushing the back of it, searching. My heart pounded, but all I felt was smooth, unbroken skin. Nothing.

I ignored his subtle attempts to pull away and kept going, my fingers tracing further up, even brushing the back of his head. Still, nothing. I leaned closer, desperate to see what my fingers couldnโ€™t findโ€”the mole that had always been there.

But it wasnโ€™t. No mark. No mole. No trace of him. Haydenโ€™s mole had always been thereโ€”small, distinct, impossible to miss. But the guy standing in front of me? Nothing.

My hand dropped, the realization hitting hard. That hope keeping me afloat shattered, leaving a hollow ache in its place.

He wasnโ€™t Hayden.

Lena slipped next to me, her hand curled around my arm. Her eyes met mine, quietly telling me she got it.

โ€œMr. Drago,โ€ Xander said suddenly, โ€œIโ€™d like to report a harassment. This lady just laid hands on me without my consent.โ€

Chapter 680

My chest tightened. If he were Hayden, thereโ€™s no way heโ€™d pull this stuntโ€”not when it could blow his cover. He said it without a secondโ€™s hesitation. That sealed it. He wasnโ€™t him.

The last flicker of hope burned out, leaving this awful weight of disappointment. Iโ€™d convinced myself Iโ€™d found Hayden, built up this delusional fantasy, only to crash back down. Foolish. Like a clown chasing a ghost.

And the look in Xanderโ€™s eyesโ€”cold, distant, maybe even disgusted? Yeah, that drove it home. He wasnโ€™t Hayden. Iโ€™d been stupid to think he was, just because they shared a face.

โ€œWhat are you calling the cops for?โ€ Cole cut in. โ€œDo you even know who Ms. Kay is? Having her hug you is a blessing you wonโ€™t get again in three lifetimes. See these two important figures?โ€ He gestured at Jace and Wayne. โ€œTheyโ€™d kill for a hug from her, and even they donโ€™t have the privilege.โ€

Chaos was Coleโ€™s playground.

โ€œShut your mouth!โ€ Jace snapped.

โ€œAm I wrong, though?โ€ Cole teased as he poked the bear harder.
