Chapter 750

Of course, Cole had a demand. That snake stunt and the address were just bait to pull me into his game. Classic Cole. Like father, like sonโ€”heโ€™d mastered every dirty trick in the book.

โ€œWhy donโ€™t you tell me what it is first?โ€ No way was I letting him think he held all the cards. Cole knew I cared about Lena, but I wasnโ€™t about to hand him that power on a silver platter.

โ€œHand over what Hayden gave you,โ€ he said, cutting straight to the chase.

I let out a short laugh. โ€œAnd if I told you he didnโ€™t give me anything, would you believe me?โ€

Cole smirked. โ€œNow thatโ€™s just boring.โ€

I leaned in, mirroring his smirk. โ€œLook, I get it; you think Iโ€™m hiding something. But let me remind you of a little timeline. Back in Houston, you saw the mess Hayden and I were in. After that, I didnโ€™t even get to see him before he was dragged off and cremated by your dear Aunt Yara. So, tell me, Coleโ€”if I didnโ€™t even get a goodbye, when exactly did he hand me something?โ€

Cole stroked his chin, his sharp gaze locked on me. I didnโ€™t blink or flinch. Showing even a flicker of hesitation would be game over. โ€œIf youโ€™re so convinced Hayden had something important, maybe you should take it up with your aunt. She was closer to him than anyone.โ€

The ball was back in the Drago familyโ€™s court, and thatโ€™s exactly where I wanted it. I didnโ€™t know how deep Yara was in this, but it was better for her to take the heat than me.

โ€œDonโ€™t think I donโ€™t see through your little game. Youโ€™re making Aunt Yara the scapegoat because you figure I wouldnโ€™t dare touch her. Smart.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s between you and your aunt. But Iโ€™m telling you, I donโ€™t have anything of Haydenโ€™s. If youโ€™re looking for somethingโ€ฆ well, the only thing he left me is this.โ€

I paused, tapping my chest. โ€œRight here. Want me to grab a knife and cut it open so you can check?โ€

Coleโ€™s eyes glinted with dark amusement. โ€œIs that so? Honestly, Iโ€™d love to see that.โ€

Leaning closer, he added, โ€œKeira, your silver tongue is as sharp as everโ€”marketing really is your calling. But no matter how smooth you talk, you wonโ€™t convince me to believe you.โ€

This wasnโ€™t about calling me a liar; he was baiting me. But I wasnโ€™t biting. Instead, I flipped the script. โ€œIf youโ€™re so sure I have something, why donโ€™t you search my home or office? Go ahead; if you find anything, itโ€™s yours. Fair deal?โ€

I delivered the line with unwavering confidence, daring him to try.

Cole chuckled softly. โ€œYouโ€™re not that stupid.โ€

I shrugged. โ€œIโ€™ve told you I donโ€™t have anything, and Iโ€™ve even offered to let you search. If thatโ€™s not good enough, I have no idea what you want from me.โ€

โ€œLet me spell it out for you, Keira. Hand over what I want, and your dear friend wonโ€™t have to worry about a thing. But if you donโ€™tโ€ฆโ€

He narrowed his eyes, their malice razor-sharp. โ€œโ€ฆthen Dr. Lane might need to start looking for a new place to work.โ€

The threat hit me like a punch, fury surging through my veins. It wasnโ€™t just Lenaโ€™s career he was threateningโ€”it was her safety. His devilish smirk told me exactly what he meant by โ€œwork.โ€ A demon in designer clothes, dragging everyone into his hell.

I shot to my feet, my hand moving before I could think. The slap landed with a crack, turning his head to the side. โ€œCole Drago, try laying a finger on Lena, and see what happens.โ€

His cheek burned red, but his eyes burned hotter. Gone was the smug playboy actโ€”now, he looked ready to kill. I didnโ€™t flinch. My face was stone, my voice steady. โ€œYou think youโ€™re untouchable, but thereโ€™s always someone bigger, someone stronger. Donโ€™t push your luck.โ€

Without waiting for a response, I turned and walked out, shaking my hand to dull the stinging. My arm was numb, but I didnโ€™t regret a thing. This wasnโ€™t just anger. It was a statement: โ€˜Keira Kay isnโ€™t someone you can mess with.โ€™

Still, I knew this wasnโ€™t the end. As soon as I was outside, I pulled out my phone and dialed Yara.

โ€œHello?โ€ she answered, her voice lazy and detached.

โ€œCan we meet?โ€ I asked, straight to the point.
