Chapter 765

Glancing at his watch, Nate realized it was nearing midnight. His fingers hovered for a moment before he dialed Keiraโ€™s number.

โ€œKeira, is Lena with you?โ€

โ€œNoโ€ฆ why?โ€ Keiraโ€™s voice was thick with sleep, but her tone sharpened. โ€œWhatโ€™s going on? You canโ€™t find Lena?โ€

โ€œI just finished up, but I canโ€™t reach her. Maybe sheโ€™s home,โ€ Nate replied, keeping his voice steady before quickly ending the call.

Next, he dialed Lenaโ€™s dad. He and Mr. Lane had exchanged numbers during a previous visit, so he knew it was worth a shot.

โ€œNate, whatโ€™s up?โ€ Mr. Laneโ€™s voice answered, groggy.

โ€œHas Lena come home?โ€ Nate kept his tone light.

โ€œNo, she hasnโ€™t been home in a while. Why? Did something happen? You two fight?โ€ Mr. Lane sounded casual.

โ€œNo, no fight. I just got back today,โ€ Nate said quickly, but Mr. Lane wasnโ€™t fooled. He could tell Nate wouldnโ€™t have called unless he was desperate.

After a few pointed questions, Nate cracked.

โ€œThis is serious!โ€ Mr. Laneโ€™s voice went razor-sharp. โ€œIf somethingโ€™s happened to my daughter, how could you not tell me right away?!โ€

Nate froze, stammering, โ€œShe was fine when I last saw herโ€ฆ at the hospital.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t care where you last saw her! I care where she is NOW!โ€ Mr. Lane snapped, slamming the phone down.

Mrs. Lane stirred. โ€œWhatโ€™s going on with Lena?โ€ she asked, her voice tight.

Mr. Lane didnโ€™t answer at first, redialing Lenaโ€™s phone. Still nothing. He finally turned to his wife, grim. โ€œSheโ€™s not at the hospital, not home, and we canโ€™t reach her.โ€

โ€œKeira,โ€ Mrs. Lane said quickly. โ€œTheyโ€™re close. Maybe she went to see her?โ€

Without a word, Mr. Lane dialed Keiraโ€™s number.

Chapter 766

For some reason, Iโ€™d been extra tired tonight. Nateโ€™s call barely registered โ€“ I just rolled over and went back to sleep. But when Mr. Lane called, the grogginess disappeared instantly.

โ€œNo, I havenโ€™t seen Lena,โ€ I said, sitting up. โ€œIโ€™m at Cloudscape Monastery.โ€

Silence.

โ€œMr. Lane?โ€ I pressed, my stomach twisting. โ€œWhatโ€™s going on? Is something wrong with Lena?โ€

His voice came back heavy, edged with panic. โ€œWe canโ€™t find her. Her phoneโ€™s off.โ€

โ€œMaybe sheโ€™s asleep?โ€ I offered, but even as I said it, I knew better. Lena was the lightest sleeper Iโ€™d ever met. She always kept her phone by her bed, ready for emergencies. A single buzz could wake her, so this? This wasnโ€™t normal.

โ€œIโ€™ll keep looking,โ€ Mr. Lane said, his voice tight. โ€œKeira, if you think of anyone she might be with, call them.โ€

I agreed, but my gut was already screaming.

I called Lenaโ€™s number twice. Straight to voicemail. Reached out to her hospital โ€“ nothing. Lena wouldnโ€™t just disappear. Then I remembered that snake package she got the other day. A cold knot formed in my chest.

Without wasting another second, I dialed Cole. Even though it was late, I knew Cole thrived on nightlife. If anyone was still up, itโ€™d be him.

The phone rang forever before he finally picked up, sounding lazy and annoyed. โ€œKeira, are you out of your mind? Calling me now? If I lose my rhythm in bed, are you planning to make it up to me?โ€

I bit back a curse, forcing myself to stay focused. โ€œWhereโ€™s Lena?โ€
