Chapter 807
โIf Lena hadnโt stuck her nose where it didnโt belong, we wouldnโt even be here,โ Wayne grumbled, clearly trying to wrap this up. โTake her and leave. End of story.โ
Aaron just smiled. โSo thatโs how you handle things? Snatch someone up whenever you feel like it, then pretend itโs no big deal when you let them go?โ
Wayne knew Aaron wasnโt here just for Lenaโthis was about more than her. Both of them were playing it cool, trying to keep things from blowing up, but Wayne was clearly hoping Aaron would take the hint and back off.
Too bad for WayneโAaron wasnโt going anywhere.
Wayne finally sighed, sizing up his options. With Cole gone and Jace refusing to back him, Wayne knew he didnโt have much leverage. The last thing he needed was to tick off someone like Aaron Ace.
โWhat do you want from me? An apology?โ Wayne muttered, taking a small step back.
Aaron just glanced at Lena. โNot my call. You should be asking her.โ
Wayneโs face twisted like heโd swallowed a lemon. He hated being humiliated, and Aaron wasnโt even subtle about it. The anger bubbling inside Wayne was about to blow.
โSo this isnโt about apologizing,โ Wayne snapped. โYou just want to meddle in my familyโs business.โ
Aaron shrugged, unfazed. โNot interested.โ
โThen leave,โ Wayne barked, trying to regain control.
Aaron pulled his hand out of his pocket and motioned to Lena. โLetโs go.โ
But Lena wasnโt about to leave me behind. She grabbed my hand. โReaโs coming too.โ
Wayneโs scowl deepened. His mood? Totally tanking.
I smirked and piled on. โYeah, Iโll go, but Iโm taking Jace and Isabel with me.โ No way Iโd leave them here for Wayne to blow up at later.
Wayne let out a dry laugh. โIs this some kind of tag-team effort to ruin my day?โ
He turned back to Aaron. โYouโre not just here for a rescue mission, are you? If youโre so eager to jump into this mess, Iโll make sure you canโt climb out.โ
With a smug clap, Wayne summoned a flood of guys into the roomโeasily a dozen, maybe more. The air grew heavy, and my stomach dropped.
Chapter 8117
Wayne stared at Aaron, his smirk screaming โcheckmate.โ โIโll make sure youโre comfortable here until after my fatherโs funeral tomorrow.โ
Translation? He wasnโt just holding usโhe was gunning for Aaron too.
It was obvious Wayne was gearing up for something major, and if Hayden was planning his move tomorrow tooโฆ
Aaron didnโt even flinch. โSince Iโm already here, wouldnโt it be rude if I skipped your dadโs funeral?โ he quipped, smooth as ever.
Lena shot me a quick, reassuring look. She trusted Aaron completely, and I had to admit, he did seem unshakable.
Still, Wayne wasnโt dumb. He had to have a plan. If tomorrow was the day Hayden made his move, could Aaron really handle whatever Wayne was scheming?
Wayneโs tone turned icy, dropping the fake niceties. โNo need. We donโt do uninvited guests.โ
โIโll remember that for next time. But since Iโm already here, skipping out would be rude,โ he said, locking eyes with Wayne. โDonโt you think?โ
