Chapter 811

Aaron must have felt her staring because he turned, locking eyes with Lena. She immediately dropped her gaze. โ€œUncle Aaron.โ€

โ€œWhat are you doing hovering in the doorway?โ€ he asked, and she shuffled inside without protest. โ€œThanks,โ€ she mumbled. If he hadnโ€™t shown up, who knows how long Wayne wouldโ€™ve kept her tied up.

This whole mess started with her stalling Wayne, pretending she was helping as a doctor to buy Keira time to save Jace. But Wayne caught on and didnโ€™t hesitate to have her restrained.

โ€œLet me see your hand,โ€ Aaron said, holding out his own.

โ€œIโ€™m fine. No injuries,โ€ she insisted. โ€œIโ€™m a doctor, remember?โ€

He wasnโ€™t buying it. โ€œIf youโ€™re fine, then whatโ€™s the harm in letting me check?โ€

Under his intense stare, Lena caved, holding out her hand. His fingers brushed over her wrist, and he immediately noticed the damageโ€”red marks, swelling, raw scrapes where the ropes had bitten into her skin.

โ€œThis is fine?โ€ he asked, raising an eyebrow.

โ€œNot like Iโ€™ll die,โ€ she muttered, but her voice lacked conviction. Aaronโ€™s eyes stayed on her, but Lena kept her gaze fixed anywhere else.

โ€œIt might not kill you,โ€ he said, his voice carrying a light reprimand, โ€œbut it could cost someone else their life.โ€

Lenaโ€™s throat tightened. She wanted to ask who he meant, but the words stayed stuck. Aaron motioned for her to sit on the couch, grabbing a medical kit nearby. As soon as he opened it, Lena recognized the contentsโ€”specialized supplies. Clearly, heโ€™d planned ahead, expecting sheโ€™d be hurt.

He squeezed ointment onto her wrist; the coolness quickly replaced by a sharp sting that made her flinch.

โ€œIt hurts? Sorry. Iโ€™ll be gentler,โ€ Aaron said softly, even blowing on her wrist like itโ€™d help.

โ€œUncle Aaron, Wayneโ€™s definitely going to cause trouble tomorrow. Can you stop him?โ€ Lenaโ€™s voice cracked with worry.

Aaron kept calm. โ€œNo guarantees.โ€

Chapter 11

Thinking about how Wayne had twisted his own fatherโ€™s funeral into a spectacle, Lena couldnโ€™t hold back. โ€œHeโ€™s definitely planning something big for tomorrow. You need to be careful.โ€

Aaron let out a thoughtful hum. โ€œWhatโ€™s Keiraโ€™s plan?โ€

โ€œWhatever it takes to stop him,โ€ Lena said quickly, then added, โ€œBut donโ€™t think Iโ€™m hiding anything; I donโ€™t know eitherโ€”she hasnโ€™t told me.โ€

โ€œYou donโ€™t need to worry about that,โ€ Aaron cut in, his tone firm. โ€œJust focus on staying safe tomorrow.โ€

โ€œMaybe you can handle Wayne today, but tomorrowโ€™s a different story,โ€ Lena said, still worried.

โ€œHow will we know unless we try?โ€ Aaron shrugged, then added, his voice softening, โ€œBesides, you stopped coming to me for help.โ€

Lena felt a pang of guilt. Was he calling her out? She tried to smooth things over. โ€œI get it. Next time Iโ€™m in trouble, Iโ€™ll come to you first.โ€

Aaronโ€™s gaze lingered on her smile, a warmth flickering in his chest. โ€œGo tell Keira Hayden will be back tomorrow.โ€

โ€œHow do you know that?โ€ Lena asked, her surprise obvious.

Aaron didnโ€™t answer, but the look on his face said everything.

โ€œYouโ€™ve teamed up with Hayden?โ€ Lena asked, her mind reeling.
