Chapter 830

Seeing Yara so nervous and full of guilt, I couldnโ€™t help but feel bad. She was a proper, wealthy socialite, yet here she was, taking care of my meals and drinksโ€”and Iโ€™d gone and played her like this. But I had no choice. I had to feign heartbreak and sadness to leave Yara flustered. Only then would she turn to Jace for advice. And if Jace knew I was upset, heโ€™d definitely come here.

Just as Iโ€™d expected, as soon as I went upstairs, I heard Yara on the phone with Jace. โ€œJace, I messed up the task you gave me. Keiraโ€™s upsetโ€”well, not exactly upset, but she started cryingโ€ฆโ€

She recounted the situation, but I couldnโ€™t hear Jaceโ€™s response. All I caught was Yara saying, โ€œAlright, alright. Hurry up and get here.โ€

Hearing that, I let out a quiet sigh of relief and headed back to the room. Once inside, I lay on the bed and sent Yara a text: [Sorry, I lost control of my emotions earlier. I wasnโ€™t mad at you; I just started thinking about my parents.]

She replied almost instantly: (Itโ€™s my fault for bringing up something that hurt you.)

Not long after, Yara came upstairs to check on me. When our eyes met, we exchanged small smiles. Yara let out a dramatic sigh. โ€œThank goodness you finally smiled. You had me so anxious I had to call for backup!โ€

I knew exactly who her โ€œbackupโ€ was, but I didnโ€™t say anything. She pulled out her phone. โ€œLet me call Jace and tell him not to come. Iโ€™ve already cheered you up.โ€

Panic hit me instantly. If Iโ€™d known this would happen, I wouldโ€™ve waited longer to apologize. It was my own soft-heartedness that led me to feel bad for her guilt.

โ€œNo, let him come,โ€ I said quickly, stopping her. โ€œItโ€™s so boring here. At least if he comes, weโ€™ll have someone to talk to.โ€

Yara looked at me, and her expression turned amused. โ€œYou planned this, didnโ€™t you?โ€

Beautiful women were often smart, and Yara was no exception. After all, she was someone Hayden trusted enough to work with.

I didnโ€™t deny it. Yara sat down beside me. โ€œAlright, spill it. What are you plotting by using your tears to trick Jace into coming here?โ€

I looked into her clear eyes and hesitated, unsure if I should tell her everything. Hayden had said to find someone I trusted. If he trusted Yara completely, he couldโ€™ve told me to hand the ring to her directly. But he hadnโ€™t. Heโ€™d left it to me to decide, which meant even Hayden didnโ€™t fully trust her.

It was a critical moment. I needed to be cautious. Lowering my gaze, I avoided Yaraโ€™s eyes and said, โ€œIโ€™m just worried about Lena. I wanted to ask him to help get her back.โ€

โ€œYou couldโ€™ve just called him. Wouldnโ€™t that be easier?โ€ Yara asked, clearly not one to be easily fooled.

โ€œItโ€™s easier, sure, but having him see my tears in person will leave a stronger impression,โ€ I said, glancing at her.

She laughed lightly and nodded. โ€œFair enough. Even I canโ€™t stand your tears, let alone a man whoโ€™s still hopelessly in love with you.โ€

To Yara, Jace still loved me. Maybe he did. Sheโ€™d mentioned earlier that Jace had asked her to take care of me. But Jace no longer expressed those feelings in front of me. He didnโ€™t say things like that anymore.

Love unspokenโ€”thatโ€™s what true love looked like. But no matter how deep it ran, there was always a distance between us. A gulf of time, space, and, most of all, Hayden. There was no going back.

โ€œIf Hayden doesnโ€™t come back soon, Iโ€™m worried Jace might just sweep you away again,โ€ Yara said with a sigh.

โ€œThen tell him to hurry up and come back,โ€ I replied, meeting her gaze.

Yara blinked at my response, stunned for a moment, then broke into a laugh. โ€œIf I could make him come back any faster, I wouldnโ€™t be stuck here either,โ€ she said with a huff. Then, after a pause, she added, โ€œAnd donโ€™t bother testing me.โ€

I turned my attention to the window. The sky outside was so blue, not a single white cloud in sight. That kind of pure, open sky had a way of lifting your spirits, even just a little.

โ€œI just hope he comes back soon,โ€ I said softly. โ€œAnd I hope this all ends soon, too.โ€
