Chapter 832

Lena was dreaming, but it felt so real. She was a little girl again, trailing after Aaron like always.

โ€œUncle Aaron! Carry me! Iโ€™m soooo tired,โ€ she whined, stretching her arms out dramatically.

Aaron stopped, turning to her with a patient smile. The second she caught up, she threw her arms up, and he scooped her onto his back. Her little arms wrapped around his neck.

She couldnโ€™t sit still, of course. She blew air into his ear, poked at his neck, even tickled him under his shirt.

Aaron just laughed softly, shaking his head. โ€œTwinkle, cut it out.โ€

Twinkle. His nickname for her. Sheโ€™d been born during a meteor shower, and he said her birthday was unforgettable, thanks to the โ€œcosmic fireworks.โ€

Heโ€™d always tease her: โ€œAs long as I remember the stars, Iโ€™ll remember your birthday. Then I donโ€™t have to deal with any tantrums.โ€

โ€œTwinkleโ€ฆ Twinkleโ€ฆโ€ His voice echoed.

But no matter how hard she looked, she couldnโ€™t find him. โ€œUncle Aaron? Where are you?!โ€ She ran and ran, searching for him. Somewhere along the way, she grew upโ€”her little-girl self morphing into the young woman she was now.

Finally, she spotted him, standing at the top of a hill, his coat whipping in the wind. She stomped toward him, glaring.

โ€œAaron Ace! Where have you been? Iโ€™ve been looking everywhere for youโ€”Iโ€™m exhausted!โ€ Aaron didnโ€™t answer. He just stood there, watching her.

โ€œIโ€™m tired!โ€ she huffed, throwing herself onto his back like she used to. โ€œCarry me down!โ€

Aaron sighed but didnโ€™t resist. He gave her a piggyback ride down the hill, silent as her soft breaths tickled his neck.

โ€œYouโ€™re grown up now, Lena,โ€ he said gently. โ€œYou shouldnโ€™t be asking me to carry you anymore.โ€

โ€œWhy not?โ€ she shot back, smirking. โ€œAre you saying Iโ€™m too heavy? You calling me fat?โ€

โ€œNo, thatโ€™s not itโ€ฆโ€

โ€œThen what?โ€ she pressed, but he didnโ€™t answer.

Chapter 832

The dream shifted. She heard her grandmother Deborahโ€™s voice now, firm but caring.

โ€œAaron, Lenaโ€™s grown up. So are you. Itโ€™s time to stop all this playfulness.โ€

Dream-Lena jumped in. โ€œWeโ€™re not playing around! Weโ€™re just walking to school togeโ€ฆโ€ But it was like her voice didnโ€™t matterโ€”Deborah didnโ€™t even look at her. Her attention stayed on Aaron. โ€œYou know what I mean, right?โ€ Deborah said.

Aaron didnโ€™t answer directly. Instead, he said, โ€œIโ€™ve applied for an overseas program. If I get accepted, Iโ€™ll be leaving soon.โ€

Deborah nodded, though she looked surprised. โ€œThatโ€™s good. A chance like this doesnโ€™t come often.โ€

And just like that, he was gone. He left without saying a word to Lena. No goodbye, no explanation. She only found out after heโ€™d already boarded the plane.

Lena was crushedโ€”heartbroken and furious. She refused to reach out to him, and he didnโ€™t bother reaching out either.

Over time, their once-close bond unraveled. When they saw each other again, it was awkward, accidentalโ€”walking into the same bathroom naked at home during one of his visits. That run-in only made the distance between them feel even bigger.

After that, they barely spoke.

The dream played on, like a montage of the bond they used to have, until a loud knock at the door jolted her awake.

Wayne stood in the doorway. โ€œGet up. Breakfast is ready,โ€ he said flatly.

Lena stayed quiet, still caught in the haze of her dream. Aaronโ€™s name echoed in her mind. Wayne glanced at her, noticing her distant stare, but didnโ€™t say anything else. He turned and left the room.

It took a while for Lena to shake off the dream and come back to reality. When she finally looked out the window, the unfamiliar architecture told her everything she needed to know. She wasnโ€™t in Kehlmark anymore. She was somewhere far awayโ€”somewhere foreign.
