Chapter 932

โ€œDo you need me to explain myself?โ€ Hayden asked Keira seriously when he saw her. โ€œNo, I donโ€™t,โ€ Keira replied with a smile. โ€œDonโ€™t bother explaining.โ€

โ€œThen youโ€™re not upset or misunderstanding anything?โ€ His gaze held a hint of curiosity as he studied her. She could tell he was worried. After all, heโ€™d called and texted her, and she hadnโ€™t responded. Of course, he mustโ€™ve been overthinking things.

โ€œI wasnโ€™t ignoring you,โ€ Keira reassured him. โ€œI was spending time with Nina at the kindergarten. My phone was on silent.โ€ As she finished, she gently touched his face. โ€œI need to get back to work.โ€

Today, there were even more customers than yesterday. If this kept up, her little courtyard might need to be expanded. But she wouldnโ€™t. Although she was using this courtyard to make a living, sheโ€™d never forget why she built it in the first place. During the day, it was for work, but in the evening, it became her sanctuaryโ€”a place of peace and solitude. Besides, internet trends rarely last long. Once the buzz died down, sheโ€™d likely return to the tranquility she cherished.

Keira didnโ€™t ask for an explanation, and Hayden didnโ€™t offer one. Still, she could sense something was off with him. His thoughtful gaze followed her whenever she glanced his way. Sometimes, men overthought things too. But she was busy, so she didnโ€™t dwell on it.

That night, she was so exhausted that she went straight to sleep when she got home. It wasnโ€™t until the eve of their grand reopening that she noticed Hayden smoking outside the courtyard. He rarely smoked, especially since Keira got pregnant. Heโ€™d practically quit.

The moment he saw her approach, he stubbed out the cigarette and waved the air around him, ensuring no trace of smoke lingered. He looked at her. โ€œWhy are you here?โ€

โ€œI came to find you,โ€ Keira replied, fixing her gaze on him. โ€œYouโ€™ve got something on your mind, donโ€™t you?โ€ If he didnโ€™t, he wouldnโ€™t be smoking or staring off into space like that.

โ€œIs it pressure from the Hart family again? Or has someone from the Mitchell family shown up?โ€ With no external enemies, it could only be something between them.

โ€œYou can tell Iโ€™ve got something on my mind?โ€ He didnโ€™t answer her, instead posing that question. Keira chuckled. โ€œSounds like thereโ€™s some resentment in your voice. Why donโ€™t you share it with me?โ€

โ€œIs it human nature to take things for granted once we have them? Is that true for both men and women?โ€ The moment he said that, Keira understood everything.

โ€œOh, so youโ€™re sulking, huh? Upset because Iโ€™ve been neglecting you lately?โ€ she teased knowingly.

Haydenโ€™s long lashes lowered slightly, concealing his emotions. โ€œItโ€™s not neglect. Itโ€™s that you donโ€™t seem to care about me anymore.โ€

โ€œIs this about Yara?โ€ Keira asked. Sheโ€™d already guessed it. She hadnโ€™t asked him for an explanation, and yet he wasnโ€™t happy about it. Turned out men could be just as petty.

โ€œAny woman would mind,โ€ he muttered, sounding genuinely aggrieved.

โ€œHayden, of course I mind,โ€ Keira admitted. โ€œBut I trust you more. You and Yara worked together before we even met. You shared life-and-death experiences. You see her as a brother, as a friend, right?โ€

โ€œBut sheโ€™s still a woman,โ€ Hayden reminded her.

โ€œExactly. And a woman you were supposed to marry. But I can accept her presenceโ€”even when she casually picks up your callsโ€”without feeling threatened. Not because I donโ€™t care about you, but because Iโ€™m choosing to let go.โ€

As Keira said this, a leaf drifted down from the tree above. She caught it effortlessly. โ€œPeopleโ€™s biggest troubles often stem from trapping themselves. Jealousy is the perfect example,โ€ Keira said, twirling the leaf in her fingers. โ€œLook at this leaf. If it wants to leave, the tree canโ€™t hold onto it.โ€

โ€œHayden, love is the same. Right now, itโ€™s Yara. In the future, there will be other women around you. If I have to mind every single one, if you constantly have to explain yourself and stay on guard, weโ€™ll both be exhausted. Even if weโ€™re together, we wonโ€™t be happy.โ€
