Chapter 932
โDo you need me to explain myself?โ Hayden asked Keira seriously when he saw her. โNo, I donโt,โ Keira replied with a smile. โDonโt bother explaining.โ
โThen youโre not upset or misunderstanding anything?โ His gaze held a hint of curiosity as he studied her. She could tell he was worried. After all, heโd called and texted her, and she hadnโt responded. Of course, he mustโve been overthinking things.
โI wasnโt ignoring you,โ Keira reassured him. โI was spending time with Nina at the kindergarten. My phone was on silent.โ As she finished, she gently touched his face. โI need to get back to work.โ
Today, there were even more customers than yesterday. If this kept up, her little courtyard might need to be expanded. But she wouldnโt. Although she was using this courtyard to make a living, sheโd never forget why she built it in the first place. During the day, it was for work, but in the evening, it became her sanctuaryโa place of peace and solitude. Besides, internet trends rarely last long. Once the buzz died down, sheโd likely return to the tranquility she cherished.
Keira didnโt ask for an explanation, and Hayden didnโt offer one. Still, she could sense something was off with him. His thoughtful gaze followed her whenever she glanced his way. Sometimes, men overthought things too. But she was busy, so she didnโt dwell on it.
That night, she was so exhausted that she went straight to sleep when she got home. It wasnโt until the eve of their grand reopening that she noticed Hayden smoking outside the courtyard. He rarely smoked, especially since Keira got pregnant. Heโd practically quit.
The moment he saw her approach, he stubbed out the cigarette and waved the air around him, ensuring no trace of smoke lingered. He looked at her. โWhy are you here?โ
โI came to find you,โ Keira replied, fixing her gaze on him. โYouโve got something on your mind, donโt you?โ If he didnโt, he wouldnโt be smoking or staring off into space like that.
โIs it pressure from the Hart family again? Or has someone from the Mitchell family shown up?โ With no external enemies, it could only be something between them.
โYou can tell Iโve got something on my mind?โ He didnโt answer her, instead posing that question. Keira chuckled. โSounds like thereโs some resentment in your voice. Why donโt you share it with me?โ
โIs it human nature to take things for granted once we have them? Is that true for both men and women?โ The moment he said that, Keira understood everything.
โOh, so youโre sulking, huh? Upset because Iโve been neglecting you lately?โ she teased knowingly.
Haydenโs long lashes lowered slightly, concealing his emotions. โItโs not neglect. Itโs that you donโt seem to care about me anymore.โ
โIs this about Yara?โ Keira asked. Sheโd already guessed it. She hadnโt asked him for an explanation, and yet he wasnโt happy about it. Turned out men could be just as petty.
โAny woman would mind,โ he muttered, sounding genuinely aggrieved.
โHayden, of course I mind,โ Keira admitted. โBut I trust you more. You and Yara worked together before we even met. You shared life-and-death experiences. You see her as a brother, as a friend, right?โ
โBut sheโs still a woman,โ Hayden reminded her.
โExactly. And a woman you were supposed to marry. But I can accept her presenceโeven when she casually picks up your callsโwithout feeling threatened. Not because I donโt care about you, but because Iโm choosing to let go.โ
As Keira said this, a leaf drifted down from the tree above. She caught it effortlessly. โPeopleโs biggest troubles often stem from trapping themselves. Jealousy is the perfect example,โ Keira said, twirling the leaf in her fingers. โLook at this leaf. If it wants to leave, the tree canโt hold onto it.โ
โHayden, love is the same. Right now, itโs Yara. In the future, there will be other women around you. If I have to mind every single one, if you constantly have to explain yourself and stay on guard, weโll both be exhausted. Even if weโre together, we wonโt be happy.โ
