Chapter 940
Whenever Lena wasnโt too busy, sheโd come to Keiraโs cafรฉ to learn how to make coffee and desserts.
โLook at this! Doesnโt it look even better than yours?โ Lena bragged, showing off her latest creation with a grin.
As a teacher, Keira believed in encouragement over criticism. โThe student surpasses the master. Youโve done great.โ
โI think so too,โ she said, smirking. โIf I ever lose my job, at least Iโll have a skill to fall back on.โ
Keira chuckled. โWhatโs that supposed to mean? Are you planning to steal my livelihood?โ
โA thriving industry isnโt built on one successโit flourishes when itโs full of competition,โ she declared with her own brand of logic.
She wasnโt wrong; no industry thrived with just one dominant player.
โTeaching the apprentice only to starve the master,โ Keira joked with a sigh.
โNo worries. If you go bankrupt, Iโll hire you for a ridiculously high salary to work for me,โ she replied with mock seriousness.
Keira gave her a thumbs-up. โBetween the two of us, youโre definitely the better bossโruthless enough to succeed.โ
She laughed. โThatโs right! I wield a scalpel for a living. If I werenโt ruthless, Iโd never get anything done.โ
They spent their days laughing and chatting like that, and with her company, Keira was genuinely happy.
Hayden was busy with his own work but still stopped by the cafรฉ every day to help out. He even took care of most of the cleaning in the evenings, essentially becoming her free labor.
โRea, having a husband is pretty great. I think I want to get married too,โ Lena mused for the umpteenth time.
Keira teased her. โWhatโs wrong? Feeling lonely, or is your estrogen surging and demanding a release?โ
โBoth,โ she admitted freely, unbothered by pretense.
โWell, then, just go and pick someone up,โ Keira suggested cheekily.
Lena leaned back in a lounge chair, staring at the sky. โThose kinds of places donโt feelโฆ clean.โ
โDonโt tell me youโre still thinking about Professor Neumann. If you reach out to him now, he might still be waiting for you,โ Kelra teased, referring to Nate, who had vanished after leaving.
A good horse doesnโt graze on old grass. Besides, Iโve already chewed on that grassโitโs boring now,โ she replied with a grin that hinted at her playful, cavalier attitude.
Keira smirked. โThen find someone interestingโsomeone whoโll give you a run for your money.โ
Lena seemed to catch Keiraโs drift, rolling her eyes at her. โWhat did Aaron feed you to make you keep pushing me toward him?โ
โI just think heโs too good to let go. If another woman snatches him up, itโd be a shame. Better to keep it in the family,โ Keira joked.
โStop it,โ Lena said, her tone half-joking, half-serious. โIโm already on edge thinking he might one day cut ties with the Ace family. My parents wouldnโt be able to handle it.โ
She glanced at Keira thoughtfully. โDo you think his silence lately means heโs having second thoughts because of what I said?โ
โNot necessarily,โ Keira replied. โMaybe heโs just waiting for the right moment. Aaron isnโt impulsive. If heโs made up his mind, heโll see it through, but heโll take his time to prepare.โ
โLook at you, acting like you know him so well. Donโt tell me youโve got something going on behind my back?โ Lena teased, laughing as only close friends could.
โWow,โ Keira said, feigning shock. โYouโve found me out. Now youโll have to cover for me so my sour plum of a husband doesnโt find out.โ
โSour plum? Thereโs a monster like that in this cafรฉ?โ Haydenโs voice suddenly cut in, startling both of them.
Lena raised her eyebrows at Keira, clearly amused and waiting to see how sheโd handle this.
Keira extended her hand toward Hayden with a smile. He walked over, took her hand in his, and gently brushed her cheek before turning to Lena.
โDonโt corrupt my wife,โ he said in a calm but firm tone.
Lenaโs face lit up with mock surprise as she turned to Keira, her expression full of exaggerated incredulity.
