“What happened? Did you get into a fight?” That was Keira’s first reaction upon seeing Hayden’s injury.

Lena glanced at his wound. “Come over and sit down. I’ll take care of it for you.”

“It’s nothing,” Hayden brushed off the offer and turned to Keira instead. “You were right. Someone was watching us from the courtyard.”

Keira’s heart skipped a beat. “What? Did they follow us to the hospital?”

“Yes, I caught them. I’ll get to the bottom of this soon.” A cold, menacing glint flashed in Hayden’s eyes—something Keira hadn’t seen in a long time. The fact that he was injured meant whoever had been following them wasn’t ordinary. A shiver ran down Keira’s spine. But at least they’d caught the person.

“How’s the checkup? Is everything okay?” Despite the situation, Hayden’s first concern was still his wife.

Knowing he had just dealt with the stalker, Keira decided not to mention the additional tests Lena had ordered. “It’s fine. With Lena here, what could possibly go wrong?”

Lena glanced at Keira and gave a cooperative nod.

“Lena, thank you for taking care of my wife,” Hayden said, entrusting Keira to her.

“You’re leaving now?” Keira tugged at his sleeve, reluctant to let him go. After a period of peace and comfort, this sudden development filled her with unease.

Hayden pinched Keira’s ear gently. “I’m going to deal with the bad guys so you can rest easy. Telling you about this isn’t to make you anxious, but to remind you to stay cautious.”

Keira understood his intention. “Just be careful. Let Lena take care of that wound before you go.”

“This is nothing,” Hayden said dismissively. Keira tightened her grip on his sleeve, refusing to let go. Helpless, he raised a brow and leaned in close to her ear. “Honestly, I’m just not used to other women touching me.”

Though he lowered his voice, Lena heard him anyway. She coughed twice and said, “Hayden, do you think every woman is dying to fawn over you? Married men are like wilted eggplants, you know.”

Her comparison made Keira laugh.

Hayden chuckled. “That’s true. Not like the unmarried, lonely bachelors out there.”

Keira could tell who he was teasing, and so could Lena. She pointed at the two of them and said, “Alright, you two are just ganging up on me now, huh?”

She pulled over a small cart with medical supplies. “Since you only trust your wife, let her handle it.” With that, she stuck her hands in her pockets and stood back like an amused spectator.

Though Keira wasn’t a professional doctor or nurse, she could handle cleaning and dressing a minor wound. What looked like a mere red line at first turned out to be a deep cut when she disinfected it, likely from a sharp weapon. She couldn’t help but worry. “Did that person have a weapon?”

“Yes, a fruit knife. I’ve already confiscated it,” Hayden said as he tilted his head back, his hand resting on Keira’s shoulder. “I wasn’t on guard. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to hurt me.”

He was trying to reassure Keira, but this was clearly a matter only he could handle. She carefully dressed his wound and applied a bandage. “Be extra careful, okay?”

“Of course,” Hayden said before kissing her forehead and leaving.

Lena let out a dramatic groan. “Ugh, too much PDA.”

Keira was too worried about Hayden to respond to her teasing. Seeing her unease, Lena tried to comfort her. “Hayden will be fine. He’s been through far worse. Trust your husband… Come on, let’s get your tests done.”

It turned out Lena had asked Keira to call Hayden because she wanted him to accompany her for the tests. With the current situation, she instead called another doctor to cover her clinic duties so she could personally escort Keira.

Thankfully, the test results came back normal. Lena explained that the swelling in Keira’s legs and feet was caused by pregnancy-related pelvic pressure and hormonal changes—nothing serious.
