Chapter 960
โWhat happened? Did you get into a fight?โ That was Keiraโs first reaction upon seeing Haydenโs injury.
Lena glanced at his wound. โCome over and sit down. Iโll take care of it for you.โ
โItโs nothing,โ Hayden brushed off the offer and turned to Keira instead. โYou were right. Someone was watching us from the courtyard.โ
Keiraโs heart skipped a beat. โWhat? Did they follow us to the hospital?โ
โYes, I caught them. Iโll get to the bottom of this soon.โ A cold, menacing glint flashed in Haydenโs eyesโsomething Keira hadnโt seen in a long time. The fact that he was injured meant whoever had been following them wasnโt ordinary. A shiver ran down Keiraโs spine. But at least theyโd caught the person.
โHowโs the checkup? Is everything okay?โ Despite the situation, Haydenโs first concern was still his wife.
Knowing he had just dealt with the stalker, Keira decided not to mention the additional tests Lena had ordered. โItโs fine. With Lena here, what could possibly go wrong?โ
Lena glanced at Keira and gave a cooperative nod.
โLena, thank you for taking care of my wife,โ Hayden said, entrusting Keira to her.
โYouโre leaving now?โ Keira tugged at his sleeve, reluctant to let him go. After a period of peace and comfort, this sudden development filled her with unease.
Hayden pinched Keiraโs ear gently. โIโm going to deal with the bad guys so you can rest easy. Telling you about this isnโt to make you anxious, but to remind you to stay cautious.โ
Keira understood his intention. โJust be careful. Let Lena take care of that wound before you go.โ
โThis is nothing,โ Hayden said dismissively. Keira tightened her grip on his sleeve, refusing to let go. Helpless, he raised a brow and leaned in close to her ear. โHonestly, Iโm just not used to other women touching me.โ
Though he lowered his voice, Lena heard him anyway. She coughed twice and said, โHayden, do you think every woman is dying to fawn over you? Married men are like wilted eggplants, you know.โ
Her comparison made Keira laugh.
Hayden chuckled. โThatโs true. Not like the unmarried, lonely bachelors out there.โ
Keira could tell who he was teasing, and so could Lena. She pointed at the two of them and said, โAlright, you two are just ganging up on me now, huh?โ
She pulled over a small cart with medical supplies. โSince you only trust your wife, let her handle it.โ With that, she stuck her hands in her pockets and stood back like an amused spectator.
Though Keira wasnโt a professional doctor or nurse, she could handle cleaning and dressing a minor wound. What looked like a mere red line at first turned out to be a deep cut when she disinfected it, likely from a sharp weapon. She couldnโt help but worry. โDid that person have a weapon?โ
โYes, a fruit knife. Iโve already confiscated it,โ Hayden said as he tilted his head back, his hand resting on Keiraโs shoulder. โI wasnโt on guard. Otherwise, he wouldnโt have been able to hurt me.โ
He was trying to reassure Keira, but this was clearly a matter only he could handle. She carefully dressed his wound and applied a bandage. โBe extra careful, okay?โ
โOf course,โ Hayden said before kissing her forehead and leaving.
Lena let out a dramatic groan. โUgh, too much PDA.โ
Keira was too worried about Hayden to respond to her teasing. Seeing her unease, Lena tried to comfort her. โHayden will be fine. Heโs been through far worse. Trust your husbandโฆ Come on, letโs get your tests done.โ
It turned out Lena had asked Keira to call Hayden because she wanted him to accompany her for the tests. With the current situation, she instead called another doctor to cover her clinic duties so she could personally escort Keira.
Thankfully, the test results came back normal. Lena explained that the swelling in Keiraโs legs and feet was caused by pregnancy-related pelvic pressure and hormonal changesโnothing serious.
