Chapter 964

Aaron meant what he saidโ€”he truly didn't bother Lena again. It was as if life had reverted to how it was when heโ€™d gone abroad. Lena even started wondering if he had left the country again, until she received a call from Briana.

โ€œYour uncle is going to announce his true parentage this Sunday,โ€ Briana said. โ€œYour grandparents havenโ€™t been eating well these past few days. Come back and keep them company, will you? Youโ€™re the only one who can cheer them up.โ€

Hearing this made Lena feel uneasy. Knowing Aaronโ€™s intention to sever ties with the Ace family, she found herself perplexed. Hadnโ€™t he already given up on her? If so, why was he still doing this? Unlessโ€ฆ he had always wanted to cut ties with the Ace family, regardless of her.

โ€œWhy would he do this?โ€ Lena murmured under her breath.

โ€œWhat did you say?โ€ Briana asked, not catching her words.

โ€œMom, has Uncleโ€ฆ been in the country this whole time?โ€ Lena asked cautiously.

โ€œOf course,โ€ Briana replied, her tone revealing the savvy financial mind she prided herself on. โ€œWhere else would he go? His career here has been progressing better than when he was abroad. And honestly, the past few years havenโ€™t been peaceful overseas. Even those who left are gradually returning.โ€

โ€œDoes he still visit Grandma often?โ€ Lena probed further.

โ€œHeโ€™s been living at home lately, spending time with your grandparents,โ€ Briana said with a sigh. โ€œHe said that severing ties with the family is only to let others know heโ€™s not biologically related to the Ace family. Nothing else will change. I just canโ€™t understand why heโ€™s doing this.โ€

Lena couldnโ€™t figure out Aaronโ€™s thoughts either. โ€œMom, as long as heโ€™s good to you all, let him do what he wants.โ€

โ€œLena, do you think heโ€™s embarrassed to be part of the Ace family?โ€ Briana began questioning herself.

Lena looked up at the sky, feeling conflicted. He had clearly given up on her, yet he still wanted to cut ties with the Ace family. Could it be that he was doing this out of spite?

โ€œYou should try talking some sense into him,โ€ Briana scolded. โ€œYou grew up togetherโ€”donโ€™t waste that bond.โ€

Lena stayed silent. No one else knew the real reason behind all this, but she did. It all stemmed from her. Being reprimanded felt justified.

โ€œMom, as long as Uncle Aaron is with Grandma and Grandpa, they wonโ€™t be unhappy,โ€ Lena said, trying to avoid the confrontation. โ€œIโ€™d just be a disturbance if I went over.โ€ She couldnโ€™t face Aaron right now, and she was certain he didnโ€™t want to see her either. Breakups had their cooling-off periods, and so did heartbreak. Right now was absolutely not the right time for them to meet.

Chapter 964 (continued)

โ€œWhat do you mean, a disturbance?โ€ Briana fumed. โ€œYour grandparents miss you so much itโ€™s like trying to meet a deity!โ€

โ€œYou have to go,โ€ Briana snapped before hanging up. โ€œIf you donโ€™t, then donโ€™t bother ever going again.โ€

Lena rubbed her temples, feeling the weight of the situation. It was painful when he pursued her, and it was equally painful now that he wasnโ€™t. If she had known things would turn out like this, she might as well have agreed to be with him.

The thought flashed through her mind but quickly faded. She couldnโ€™t face Aaron, so she decided to call her grandparents instead.

โ€œLena, when are you coming?โ€ her grandmother said warmly over the phone. โ€œI miss you so much. Your grandpa even dreamed about you these past two nights. He said he saw you in a wedding dress, getting married.โ€

Lena joked, โ€œHe probably dreamed about getting married himself and blamed it on me.โ€

โ€œYou cheeky girl, teasing even your grandpa,โ€ Deborah chided her, though her tone was lighthearted. โ€œNo respect at all!โ€

Despite being in her eighties, her grandmotherโ€™s vision and hearing were still sharp.

โ€œTell her to come over,โ€ Grandpaโ€™s voice chimed in from the background. โ€œIโ€™ll make her some stewed pork.โ€

The warmth in their voices made it hard for Lena to refuse, but she had to. โ€œGrandma, I have surgery today. Iโ€™ll come another day. Please tell Grandpa for me.โ€

Deborah sighed and relayed the message to Grandpa: โ€œLena has a surgery today. Letโ€™s not trouble her.โ€

Meanwhile, from the other side of the living room, Aaron spoke up.

โ€œMom, Dad, I have a friendโ€™s birthday dinner tonight, so I wonโ€™t be home for dinner,โ€ he said. โ€œI probably wonโ€™t be back to sleep, either. Take care of yourselves and rest early.โ€
