Chapter 985
With a loud bang, the manโs face was slowly stained with blood. A passing woman caught sight of the scene and let out a sharp scream. Immediately afterward, the manโs companions rushed over, ready to attack Lena.
But she wasnโt the least bit afraid. Holding the bottle in her hand, she lifted it slightly and sneered, โCome on, go ahead and try.โ She was just one woman, alone, yet she carried the presence of an entire army, so overwhelming that no one dared to make a move.
The bar manager, seeing the situation escalate, called the police. Lena was taken to the station. The surveillance footage clearly showed that the man had struck first, so she wasnโt entirely at fault. However, she had retaliated too ruthlessly, and the man in question was a privileged young master. That complicated things.
โYou used excessive force in self-defense,โ the officer in chargeโwhom Lena mentally dubbed the hatted manโconcluded.
Though she was a surgeon by profession, she knew a fair bit about the law. Smiling faintly, she remarked, โIf I had known a single bottle would count as excessive force, I wouldโve just used my scalpel instead.โ
Her arrogant tone instantly irritated the hatted man, and he prepared to detain her.
โThis is a lawful institution,โ Lena said coldly. โIf you dare to detain me today, Iโll make sure you go viral tomorrow. Letโs see who wins.โ
In this era of omnipresent surveillance and internet exposure, the hatted man didnโt dare to act rashly. Besides, there was something different about Lenaโsomething that made him hesitate.
People liked to say you couldnโt judge a book by its cover, but the reality was, you could always tell the difference between the rich and the poor, the powerful and the ordinary.
Still, he had to deal with the pressure coming from the young masterโs side. Hoping to probe Lenaโs background, he said, โCall your family. If no one comes for you, youโll have to be detained.โ
โIโm an adult, hatted man,โ Lena teased.
โBe serious. Are you making the call or not?โ The hatted man, with a sigh, returned her confiscated phone.
In the past, she would have called Aaron without a second thought. But now? No way. And as for her family? Absolutely not. If they found out, theyโd probably be scared half to death.
In the end, Lena called Ron.
โHey, boyfriend, come pick me up from the station,โ she said casually.
Ron didnโt ask any questions. However, instead of heading there immediately, he sent a message to someone else.
As a result, before Ron even arrived, Aaron showed up first.
โMr. Ace,โ the hatted man greeted him respectfully.
Aaron had recently funded a police-community initiative, and every officer present had personally benefited from it. He was practically a walking treasure chest.
He nodded politely before turning his attention to Lena. A few strands of damp hair clung to her forehead, and a sharp glint flashed in his eyes. Taking a long stride forward, he asked, โAre you hurt?โ
Lena had no idea why he was here, but his presence seemed to make things easier. She had already noticed the shift in the hatted manโs attitude.
โNo, no, sheโs the one who hurt someone else,โ the hatted man quickly clarified, his sharp eyes picking up on the underlying power dynamic.
โDid he die?โ Aaronโs question sent a chill through the room.
โNo, just aโฆ just a small head woundโฆโ
Aaron glanced at Lenaโs slightly disheveled clothes, then took off his coat and draped it over her shoulders. Turning to the officer handling the case, he asked coldly, โWhy did she hit him?โ
As he spoke, his eyes flicked toward the surveillance footage playing on the computer screen. It was a short clip, just a few dozen seconds long, but it showed everything clearlyโthe bespectacled man harassing Lena.
Aaron pressed his lips into a thin line. โWhose responsibility is this? Do I need to have a lawyer explain it to you?โ
The officer watching the video felt his heart tremble.
When Aaron placed his coat over Lenaโs shoulders, it became glaringly obviousโthis woman wasnโt just anybody. If they had really offended someone important tonight, they would have been blind fools.
โNo, no, this isnโt your girlfriendโs fault,โ the hatted man said hastily, his attitude making a complete 180-degree turn.
