Chapter 188

At that moment, Josiahโ€™s nerves snapped taut, as if his soul were about to burst forth. He thought, โ€œSienna is inside!โ€ Dropping the baseball bat, he sprinted toward the locker room.

Josiah Yosef didn't have time to ask him anything. Josiah ran so fast he left a trail of afterimages. The locker room was chaos.

โ€œWhatโ€™s going on?โ€

โ€œThe natural gas pipeline leaked, and some idiot lit a cigarette!โ€

The locker room exploded. The door frame was detached, the outer glass shattered. Smoke billowed, and flames roared.

Josiah thought, Sienna is inside! His face pale, he pushed through the crowd, about to charge in.

โ€œJosiah!โ€ Yosef, arriving shortly after, panted, desperately holding him back. โ€œWhat are you doing? You ranโ€”โ€

โ€œLet go!โ€ Josiahโ€™s eyes were bloodshot. โ€œSienna is inside!โ€

โ€œSo what?โ€ Yosef recoiled, incredulous. โ€œWhen did you become so irrational? What can you do by rushing in and getting yourself killed?โ€

โ€œLook at that?โ€

โ€œHeaven! It looks like someone was blown out.โ€

โ€œHeaven! Can you even recognize who it is?โ€

Hearing this, Yosef swallowed hard, a pang in his heart. Could it be Sienna?

Josiahโ€™s muscles tensed. He gritted his teeth, glaring at Yosef. โ€œArenโ€™t you going to let go?โ€

Intimidated, Yosef released his grip. His gaze stopped; he saw a familiar figure. He quickly pulled Josiah back.

โ€œYosef!โ€ Josiah fumed. โ€œDamn itโ€”โ€

โ€œQuick, look over there!โ€ Yosef urgently pointed. โ€œSienna, itโ€™s Sienna!โ€

Josiah was taken aback. Through the crowd, about ten meters away, Sienna stood on tiptoe, holding an ice cream cone, straining to see inside. Hearing the discussion about someone being blown out, she frowned sympathetically, asking, โ€œWhat about the fire department?โ€

โ€œTheyโ€™ve already been called, but it takes time, right?โ€

โ€œHmm.โ€

The sound of approaching fire trucks grew louder.

โ€œHere they are!โ€

โ€œThe fire departmentโ€™s here!โ€

Stadium staff shouted, โ€œEveryone, please step back and donโ€™t interfere with the rescue efforts!โ€

Sienna followed the crowd, stepping back.

โ€œSienna!โ€ Amidst the noise, someone called urgently. She turned and saw Josiah, in his baseball uniform, struggling through the crowd.

โ€œSienna!โ€ He raised his arm high. โ€œStay there and wait for me!โ€

He raised a hand, as if to embrace her, then hesitated. His gaze swept over her, inch by inch. Uncertainly, he asked, โ€œAre you okay?โ€

Sienna blinked. Wasnโ€™t it obvious? โ€œYes, Iโ€™m fine.โ€

His expression was unreadableโ€”happiness or sadness? Sienna wasnโ€™t sure. She pointed at the ruined locker room. โ€œDid you think Iโ€ฆโ€

โ€œWhere did you run off to!โ€ Josiah shouted. โ€œI told you to wait for me in the locker room, didnโ€™t I?โ€

โ€œI wanted ice cream, so I went to get some.โ€ She realized something. โ€œYouโ€ฆ youโ€™re not angry because I wasnโ€™t blown up, are you?โ€

Before she finished, Josiah leaned down and embraced her. Sienna was bewildered. Whatโ€™s going on?

โ€œGreat!โ€ He cupped her head, pressing her deeply into his chest. โ€œItโ€™s good you bought ice cream, very good!โ€ His heart pounded. He felt like his heart had returned to his chest. He murmured, still fearful, โ€œYouโ€™re okay. Fortunately, youโ€™re fineโ€ฆโ€

Sienna thought, Is this guy having a nervous breakdown, or is he schizophrenic? But the man leaned on her, getting heavier. She pushed him. โ€œJosiah! Get up! Youโ€™re too heavy!โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t care.โ€ He clung to her. โ€œMy legs are weak. I canโ€™t stand.โ€

โ€œWeak legs!โ€ Sienna didnโ€™t believe him. โ€œCome on, get up!โ€

โ€œI wonโ€™t.โ€ He rested his head on her shoulder. โ€œYou little ungrateful one, donโ€™t you know why my legs are weak?โ€

Sienna heard him whisper, โ€œYou scared me to death, let me recoverโ€ฆ hold me, hold me a little longer.โ€

Sienna stopped moving. The noise seemed to fade. What does he mean? Itโ€™s not good! He seems to always unintentionally reveal ambiguous meanings, as if he cares about me. Is it my illusion? If itโ€™s true, itโ€™s terrible!

Suddenly, Josiah lifted his head. โ€œWhatโ€™s this?โ€ he pointed at her ice cream cone.

Sienna held it up. โ€œAn ice cream cone, of course.โ€ Doesnโ€™t he recognize it?

โ€œHmm,โ€ Josiah nodded, then lowered his head and took a big bite. When he looked up, the cone was nearly gone. Siennaโ€™s anger flared. โ€œWhat are you doing?โ€

Josiah laughed loudly and ran away.

โ€œDonโ€™t run! Josiah, give me back my ice cream! If you want to eat, canโ€™t you buy your own! Ah!?โ€

โ€œHey, Iโ€™ll buy you one!โ€ He ran, arms wide. โ€œIโ€™ll buy the whole store for you!โ€ This store held a life-saving grace for Sienna.

Itโ€™s night, in the study.

Hervey said, โ€œSir, weโ€™ve almost finished checking the orphanages and welfare homes, but we havenโ€™t found anything yet.โ€

โ€œYes,โ€ Hervey continued, โ€œAll children around three years old, within six months before and after, are within the scope of our investigation. So far, we havenโ€™t found any children who meet the conditions.โ€

โ€œI see.โ€ Howard nodded, sighing softly. โ€œIf we canโ€™t find them in orphanages, we need to expand the scope. They might have been adopted.โ€

โ€œYes,โ€ Hervey said.

โ€œBy the way,โ€ Josiah said, remembering something, โ€œAny progress on that matter?โ€
