Chapter 191

Josiah lowered his eyes, nodded, and said, "Alright, what do you want to talk about?"

"Aren't you going to ask me how I got hurt?" she asked. Josiah paused, closed the medical kit, and said, "Although I don't know what happened, I think Howard wouldn't do it on purpose."

"Hmm?" Yvette paused, tugged at the corner of her lips, and said, "Yes, he didn't do it on purpose. But often, it's the unintentional things that hurt most."

Josiah remained silent. Relationships are a matter between two people, and interference from others only complicates things.

Yvette suddenly asked, "What if—what if Howard really betrayed me, would you help me?"

Josiah's heart sank, unsure how to answer.

"I'm asking you," Yvette insisted, her eyes red with unshed tears. "Josiah, you promised me in this life you would help me, right?"

Josiah frowned, silent for a long time. Slowly, he spoke, "If that day comes, I won't stand idly by. I won't ignore you."

That was all he could say. He picked up the medical kit and said, "You'll sleep in the guest room downstairs tonight, and I'll get you a set of clothes."

Josiah went to the master bedroom, which was pitch dark, and Sienna was already asleep. He switched on a wall lamp. He retrieved a set of clothes from the walk-in closet and sat by the bed, afraid of waking Sienna.

"Sienna," he whispered. Sienna didn't respond, but Josiah saw her eyelashes quiver. He murmured, "Yvette is sleeping downstairs tonight. I've brought her a set of your clothes. Do you mind?"

Hearing this, Sienna opened her eyes. She didn't look at the clothes, but said, with a touch of amusement, "I was just about to fall asleep, and you had to wake me up. Why are you asking me about this?"

Josiah held her hand, sensing her displeasure. "These are your clothes. I had to ask before giving them to her."

Sienna smiled lazily. "Don't say that. Everything here is yours; you have the final say. You didn't ask me before letting Yvette stay, did you?"

"That's because..." Josiah's eyes narrowed, his expression darkening. "It's late. Yvette is upset and refuses to go home. She could easily get into trouble alone."

Sienna curled her lips, understanding his concern.

Josiah explained, "The situation was urgent. I forgot to ask you. I'll be more mindful in the future." He glanced at her, fully aware of her unhappiness. "Also, I noticed you hadn't removed the tags from this outfit, so I assumed you didn't like it. I'll lend it to Yvette for one night, and I'll have a replacement sent to you."

Sienna, feeling annoyed, waved her hand. "Go on, isn't she still waiting? Don't keep her waiting." Her apparent indifference didn't ease Josiah's unease; it only intensified it. Seeing him remain seated, she found it strange. "Aren't you leaving?"

Josiah stood, "I'm leaving now. You get some sleep!"

"Okay," Sienna nodded, turning away. "Don't forget to turn off the light."

"By the way," she added, "if you're not coming back, could you lock the door? I'm used to sleeping with the door locked."

This was a habit from her time in Filraty, where heightened security was necessary.

Josiah was about to turn off the light when he heard this and turned abruptly. Looking at her slender form, he was shocked. "What do you mean, 'if I'm not coming back'?"

Sienna opened her eyes again, turning over. "Isn't Yvette staying? Don't you have to accompany her? Comfort her? Coax her?"

"Sienna," Josiah frowned, his voice irritable.

Since Yvette's arrival, Sienna had been sarcastic, and he'd endured it, but now, he snapped. "I've said it many times. Yvette and I are innocent. How many times do I have to say it before you believe me?"

"I won't believe it. I'm not Howard, so you don't have to hide it from me," Sienna shook her head, smiling. "How worried you were about her just now? For Howard, you always obey, but tonight…for her, you contradicted him. Let me remind you, if you don't want Howard to suspect anything, be more restrained."

"That's because…" Josiah was speechless. How could he explain?

"Because what?" Sienna glanced at him. "Let me tell you why—it's because you care about her, you don't want her to be wronged, and you lost control for a moment. Oh, right…" She remembered their earlier conversation. Narrowing her eyes, she said, "Is it true that Howard has another lover? Do you now feel your chance has come?"

"Sienna," Josiah called out.

"Right," Sienna clapped her hands, laughing. "It really is your chance! Go on. Hurry up! Don't waste time here…"

"Sienna," Josiah interrupted, his voice tight with anger. "In your eyes, am I such a despicable person?"

"Yes," Sienna didn't hold back. She was disgusted. Their relationship was one of mutual convenience, but she resented their display of affection in front of her. She pointed to the clothes. "What's the point of pretending? You came to ask for my opinion? None of these clothes are in my style. Are there only these two unmarked ones? There are many more, all in Yvette's style."

Josiah was stunned. "You don't like any of those clothes? Why didn't you say anything?"

"There's nothing to say," Sienna shook her head. "I know what role I play. I'm your tool to hide your true love, and I really don't mind. But in situations like tonight, please try to avoid them in the future. Don't do it in front of me. It's not that I'm jealous, but in my values, it's disgusting to be with one's sister-in-law."

"Sienna!" Josiah's face darkened.

Sienna, tired of talking, waved her hand. "You can leave now, go be with your sweetheart. Don't worry. I won't tell Howard about your affairs. I'll tell him that you slept with me tonight."

"Enough!" Josiah was furious, his temples throbbing. A cold laugh escaped him.
