Chapter 231
A voice interrupted. "Sienna."
At the sound, Sienna and Cedric both looked up. Josiah approached, wearing a lightweight cashmere sweater instead of a suit. He smiled, but his expression remained cool and indifferent. Sienna's heart leaped, and she quickly stood. "You're here."
"Josiah," Cedric said, supporting his injured arm with a smile.
Josiah easily took Sienna's hand, pulling her into an embrace. He brushed her cheek gently. "Were youโฆ It's just a watch; if it's lost, let it be. Why chase after it? Now, let me see, did you get hurt?" His tone was warm, oblivious to their surroundings.
"I'm fine; it's Cedric who is hurt," Sienna said, furrowing her brow slightly in discomfort.
Josiah paused, his gaze darkening. Was she refusing his embrace because of Cedric? Was she scared?
He withdrew his hand, maintaining his composure as he turned to Cedric. "Thank goodness you were here tonight. You really saved my dear! What would I do if something happened to Sienna?"
Cedric managed a smile. "You're too kind, Josiah. I was just in the right place at the right time."
Just then, Zach arrived. Josiah waved him over. "Over here."
"Yes, Mr. Flynn."
"Finally, you're here," Josiah said, pointing to Cedric. "Mr. Brawne is in your care now. He saved Sienna; arrange for the operation and nursing careโthe best of everything."
"Yes, Mr. Flynn."
After giving his instructions, Josiah took Sienna's hand and started to leave. "Wait!" Sienna exclaimed, her eyes wide with disbelief. "Where are you taking me?"
Josiah offered a faint smile. "We're going home; where else could we go?"
Sienna felt a mix of anger and disbelief. Since arriving at the hospital, she sensed his displeasure, but never expected such rudeness.
She tried to break free. "If you want to go back, you can. I refuse to leave here with you."
"You won't come with me?" Josiah held her firmly. "Do you want to spend the night in the hospital with your ex-boyfriend, feeling sorry for him?"
Sienna's breath hitched, her face paling. "Cedric is hurt because of me; he's still waiting for surgery. It's not right for me to leave now."
"Zach is here," Josiah retorted, his eyes narrowing. "I'll ensure he has the best doctors, the finest hospital room, and the best nurses! Isn't thatโ"
"Those are basic expectations," Sienna said, forcing a strained smile. "At least let me stay until his surgery is doneโฆ"
"Why should I?" Josiah sneered.
Sienna found him unbelievable.
"Sienna," Josiah said, his voice cold, focusing on her shocked face. "I'm grateful he saved you, and I won't withhold my thanks or rewards. But I won't let you show him even a bit more concern! You want to stay with him? No way!" With a firm grip, he pulled her along. "We're going back."
"I won't!" Sienna fumed. He was too bossy.
"Get in!" Josiah ignored her protests, shoving her into the car and slamming the door.
"Let me out!" Sienna tried to cling to the door, but it was locked. She glared at him. "Josiah, you truly exemplify selfishness!"
"What?" Josiah leaned in to fasten her seatbelt.
"Don't you get it?" Sienna said. "You can leave a date to care for your beloved, yet I can't wait with my friend during surgery!"
Josiah's eyes widened. "You're blaming me?"
"Not at all!" Sienna shook her head. "I'm talking about fairness! I didn't stop you from caring for your beloved; I merely asked you not to stop me from being with my friend during surgery. Is that too much to ask?"
"Friend?" Josiah smirked, grabbing her wrist. "You've known Cedric for only a few days! How long have I known Yvette? Are you really comparing Cedric to Yvette? Is he even worthy!"
He released her with a mocking laugh. "Look at you, making a fuss for your ex-boyfriend. Don't tell me his injury has made you rethink him!"
Sienna was stunned, speechless. She considered Josiah an unreasonable lunatic. Frustrated, she turned away, shutting her eyes.
Josiah interpreted her silence as guilt. Coldly avoiding her gaze, he started the car. The silence was suffocating. As soon as the car unlocked, Sienna jumped out and headed for the gate.
"Where are you going?" Josiah's voice was sharp. Sienna didn't respond.
"Going to the hospital? To see your ex-boyfriend?" Josiah's laugh was cold. "Go ahead. I won't stop you."
Sienna doubted his generosity. He added, "I've already informed his parents; they've arrived."
Sienna froze. Josiah offered a chilling smile, then turned to leave. Sienna spun around, but only saw his indifferent back.
Not seeing Josiah in the bedroom, Sienna guessed he was in his studyโhis usual refuge after their arguments. She wouldn't comfort him; she believed he was wrong. Sienna got dressed, showered, and went to bed.
The next day, at dawn, Josiah woke up sore from the study sofa. He checked his phone, seeing missed calls and messages. Sienna hadn't sought him out all night. Josiah tossed his phone aside, wondering what he'd expected.
Footsteps sounded. He thought it was Sienna, but they faded away. It wasn't even seven o'clock. Josiah picked up his phone and called, saying, "It's meโฆ"
After hanging up, he went downstairs. The maid was already in the kitchen, preparing breakfast. She brought him some food. "Mr. Flynn, here you go."
"Hmm," Josiah said, sitting down. He took a sip of coffee when his phone rang. "Hello?"
"Mr. Flynn, Sienna went to the hospital."
