Chapter 241
Josh felt a rash of panic. “Yvette, where are you?”
“I don’t know where… Jonish, I’m scared,” Yvette sobbed.
“Stay there. Hervey is also looking for you. Don’t run around anymore,” Josiah soothed.
After hanging up, Jonah stepped on the gas and rushed to Galiralle.
“Mr. Josh Flynn,” Hervey greeted Josh upon his arrival. Hervey had already found Yvette’s car, but the door was open, and she was not inside.
Josh looked around. Presumably, Yvette had become upset and gotten out for a walk, then become lost. “She shouldn’t be far. Let’s spread out and look for her,” Josiah said.
Hervey agreed. “Yes, Mr. Josh Flynn, let’s stay in touch.”
The area was very remote, with almost no streetlights. Josiah could only use his phone’s light.
“Yvette, can you hear me? It’s Josh. If you can hear me, answer me,” Josiah shouted.
The further he went, the more treacherous the mountain road became, and the sleet severely limited their visibility.
The phone rang—it was Hervey. Josiah hurriedly answered. “Hello?”
“Mr. Josh Flynn, we’ve found Ms. Young. She’s injured, but refused to come with me. I still need your help,” Hervey said.
“I know,” Josiah sighed, rubbing his brow. “Where are you? I’ll be right there.”
The call ended, and the phone rang again. As Josiah was about to answer, a gust of wind blew snowflakes into his eyes. He instinctively closed his eyes and slipped, dropping his phone. He saw the light from his still-ringing phone. He wondered, Who could it be? Could it be Sienna?
Josiah bent to retrieve the phone, but it was just out of reach. The ringing stopped, then started again. It’s Sienna. It must be Sienna. Who else could it be in the middle of the night? She’s home alone. What if something happens and I’m not there?
Reaching for his phone, Josiah stepped forward and felt his feet give way on a slope. He lost his balance and tumbled down.
Sienna slept soundly until awakened by her ringing phone. Who could it be? Joyce?
She saw it was Zach. After a whole night of drama, could they at least let me sleep? she thought angrily.
Holding back her annoyance, Sienna answered. “Hello!”
“Sienna,” Zach said anxiously. “Mr. Flynn is seriously injured. He’s en route to the hospital. I’m coming to get you. Be ready.” He hung up.
“Hello?” Sienna was stunned. Didn’t Josiah go to see Yvette? And he’s injured? Seriously?
Her heart leaped. She jumped up and changed clothes.
Zach arrived as soon as Sienna came downstairs. He rushed her to the hospital.
Howard, already there, met them.
“Howard!” Sienna rushed over, pale.
“Don’t worry too much,” Howard comforted her. “The doctor’s preliminary examination confirms Josiah isn’t in immediate danger.”
Sienna nodded blankly, unable to relax. It’s too vague. What about other injuries? Will he lose limbs or suffer after-effects?
The emergency room door opened, and the doctor emerged.
Howard approached. “How is Josiah?”
“Mr. Howard Flynn, Mr. Josiah Flynn needs immediate surgery. His injuries are too extensive for the emergency room,” the doctor said.
Sienna’s heart sank.
“Alright,” Howard nodded decisively. “I’ll sign the papers. Please proceed quickly.”
Josiah was immediately transferred to the operating room. Howard and Sienna didn’t see him.
They sat side by side outside.
“Don’t be afraid,” Howard patted Sienna’s shoulder. “Josiah will be fine. The doctor said his injuries aren’t life-threatening.”
Sienna silently clasped her hands. “I know, Howard. I’m not scared.”
Hervey arrived later, for Yvette, who had also been injured.
Howard stood. “Sienna, I’ll leave Josiah to you. I’ll check on Yvette.”
Sienna watched him go. Her worry vanished. What is there to worry about? It’s not my place to… She lowered her eyes and sat back, closing them.
She dozed off.
“Sienna, Sienna,” Zach called.
Sienna frowned, opening her eyes. Zach looked shocked. No way, she actually fell asleep? Mr. Flynn is in surgery! How could she sleep? Isn’t she worried? “Wake up,” Zach said, suppressing his displeasure. “Mr. Flynn is out of surgery.”
“Oh, okay,” Sienna looked up. The operating room door opened. Howard and the doctor were speaking.
“Mr. Josiah Flynn will be transferred to the ward. Don’t worry, everything is fine,” the doctor said.
“Thank you for your hard work,” Howard said gratefully.
Sienna went to him. “Howard.”
He frowned, noting her sleepy appearance. “Josiah’s been transferred. Let’s go.”
“Okay,” Sienna nodded, following him.
Josiah lay quietly in his private VIP room, still unconscious from anesthesia. His face was pale, but his vital signs were stable.
Howard turned to Sienna. “Josiah’s fine now. Please stay with him for a while.”
“Sure, Howard.”
After making arrangements, Howard left to attend to Yvette.
Silence fell. Sienna sat on the bed’s edge, yawning.
Josiah didn’t wake. At dawn, Sienna checked the time, stood, and opened the door.
Zach, about to enter, was stunned. “Sienna, what’s wrong?”
Sienna smiled. “I have to go to work.”
She stepped forward, but Zach grabbed her arm.
