Chapter 246
“Ever since I woke up, you’ve been practically writing ‘perfunctory’ all over your face,” Josiah said, his anger growing with each passing thought. His resentment toward her company was palpable. “If you don’t want to take care of me, just leave. I don’t want this reluctance.” He lifted his arm, his eyes and brows dark with irritation.
Sienna frowned. She was, in fact, being perfunctory, but couldn't admit it, nor could she afford a breakdown with him. She sat on the bed’s edge, taking his hand. Josiah startled, tried to pull away. “Don’t be mad,” Sienna said, holding his hand firmly. “I didn’t know a bowl of yogurt would make you so angry. I was mistaken. I was worried you’d panic if I left too long, so I had the housekeeper make it,” she explained. “You like what I make, right? It’s easy for me to make it for you every day.”
Josiah thought, Is she telling the truth? He looked at her skeptically, sensing a deliberate detachment beneath her coaxing. You can tell when someone truly cares; it’s not just words. But asking her to leave—he couldn’t bring himself to do it.
Josiah’s Adam’s apple bobbed, and he fell silent.
“Don’t be mad anymore,” Sienna persisted, scooping yogurt. “This is really good. Let me feed you.”
Josiah reluctantly opened his mouth. After she finished feeding him, Sienna cleared the bowl and began packing her luggage. Josiah watched her, his gaze never leaving her. Once finished, Sienna grabbed her phone, lay down on the sofa, and started watching a variety show. Josiah couldn't see the screen, but he heard her giggling constantly.
“Sienna,” Josiah said, his brows furrowed. “Come over here.”
Sienna put her phone aside. “Do you need water or the bathroom?”
“Neither,” Josiah patted the space beside him. “Come lie down with me. The sofa is too small; it’s uncomfortable.”
“I don’t want to,” Sienna refused. “I’m fine here. Your bed is big, but you’re injured. If I accidentally bump your wounds…”
She picked up her phone, resuming the show. Josiah’s anger peaked. He threw off the covers, gritted his teeth, and strode to the sofa.
Sienna looked up, confused, at the "mummy-wrapped" man. “Josiah, you… what are you doing? With your injuries, you can barely turn over, and yet you got up?”
“I’ll come hold you since you’re not listening,” Josiah said, his face taut with pain. He bent and scooped Sienna into his arms. “I want you to lie down with me!”
“Josiah!” Sienna’s eyes widened in shock as she was lifted. “Put me down!” Doesn’t he care about his life? she thought. “Don’t be reckless! Your wounds will tear open!”
“Tear open, so what!” Josiah sneered, carrying her to the bed, his face paling, cold sweat beading on his skin.
“Ahh!” Sienna exclaimed as he laid her down. “Josiah, let me…”
Before she could check his wounds, her mouth was covered. Josiah kissed her fiercely, then trailed kisses down her cheeks.
“Josiah!” Sienna broke into a cold sweat. Does he really want to continue? Is he out of his mind? She pushed him away gently. “Stop! Just stop!”
“I won’t,” Josiah wrapped an arm around her waist, caressing her cheek. “Now you’re paying attention to me! I hate it when you’re here but your mind and eyes are elsewhere. Do you know how much I hate it?” He kissed her again, his hand skillfully undoing the buttons of her blouse.
What is he doing? Sienna thought. Her back stiffened. No, this isn’t right! Not to mention his injuries, this is a hospital ward! She considered her options. Even injured, Josiah was far stronger.
In a flash, Sienna gathered her strength, kicking him in the abdomen.
“Ugh!” The kick hit his wound, causing him to release her, reeling back and landing heavily on the floor.
“Josiah!” Sienna leaped from the bed, supporting him. His face was contorted with pain, sweat streaming down. He forced a smile. “Sienna!” He grasped her hand. “It hurts! The wound… it’s torn open…”
Sienna saw the blood seeping through the bandages.
“Are you crazy?” Sienna exclaimed angrily. “Did your brain get injured too?”
Josiah stared at her reddening eyes and laughed unrestrainedly. As the pain intensified, he clutched her hand tighter. “Good, this is really good… You said you didn’t care, that it was all for Yvette. Now look, it’s not because of her. It’s because of you!”
Sienna was stunned. He is really out of his mind!
Josiah’s wounds needed resuturing. Since Sienna wasn’t immediate family, the hospital notified Howard.
Sienna sat outside the operating room. The sound of high heels approached.
“Sienna!” Yvette grabbed her, glaring. “What a vicious heart you have! I never thought much of you, but I didn’t expect you to be so vicious.”
Sienna remained silent.
Yvette laughed coldly. “You’re jealous, aren’t you? Jealous of me. He’ll always care about me.” Josiah got hurt because of me. What can you do about it? He cares…
