Chapter 246
โEver since I woke up, youโve been practically writing โperfunctoryโ all over your face,โ Josiah said, his anger growing with each passing thought. His resentment toward her company was palpable. โIf you donโt want to take care of me, just leave. I donโt want this reluctance.โ He lifted his arm, his eyes and brows dark with irritation.
Sienna frowned. She was, in fact, being perfunctory, but couldn't admit it, nor could she afford a breakdown with him. She sat on the bedโs edge, taking his hand. Josiah startled, tried to pull away. โDonโt be mad,โ Sienna said, holding his hand firmly. โI didnโt know a bowl of yogurt would make you so angry. I was mistaken. I was worried youโd panic if I left too long, so I had the housekeeper make it,โ she explained. โYou like what I make, right? Itโs easy for me to make it for you every day.โ
Josiah thought, Is she telling the truth? He looked at her skeptically, sensing a deliberate detachment beneath her coaxing. You can tell when someone truly cares; itโs not just words. But asking her to leaveโhe couldnโt bring himself to do it.
Josiahโs Adamโs apple bobbed, and he fell silent.
โDonโt be mad anymore,โ Sienna persisted, scooping yogurt. โThis is really good. Let me feed you.โ
Josiah reluctantly opened his mouth. After she finished feeding him, Sienna cleared the bowl and began packing her luggage. Josiah watched her, his gaze never leaving her. Once finished, Sienna grabbed her phone, lay down on the sofa, and started watching a variety show. Josiah couldn't see the screen, but he heard her giggling constantly.
โSienna,โ Josiah said, his brows furrowed. โCome over here.โ
Sienna put her phone aside. โDo you need water or the bathroom?โ
โNeither,โ Josiah patted the space beside him. โCome lie down with me. The sofa is too small; itโs uncomfortable.โ
โI donโt want to,โ Sienna refused. โIโm fine here. Your bed is big, but youโre injured. If I accidentally bump your woundsโฆโ
She picked up her phone, resuming the show. Josiahโs anger peaked. He threw off the covers, gritted his teeth, and strode to the sofa.
Sienna looked up, confused, at the "mummy-wrapped" man. โJosiah, youโฆ what are you doing? With your injuries, you can barely turn over, and yet you got up?โ
โIโll come hold you since youโre not listening,โ Josiah said, his face taut with pain. He bent and scooped Sienna into his arms. โI want you to lie down with me!โ
โJosiah!โ Siennaโs eyes widened in shock as she was lifted. โPut me down!โ Doesnโt he care about his life? she thought. โDonโt be reckless! Your wounds will tear open!โ
โTear open, so what!โ Josiah sneered, carrying her to the bed, his face paling, cold sweat beading on his skin.
โAhh!โ Sienna exclaimed as he laid her down. โJosiah, let meโฆโ
Before she could check his wounds, her mouth was covered. Josiah kissed her fiercely, then trailed kisses down her cheeks.
โJosiah!โ Sienna broke into a cold sweat. Does he really want to continue? Is he out of his mind? She pushed him away gently. โStop! Just stop!โ
โI wonโt,โ Josiah wrapped an arm around her waist, caressing her cheek. โNow youโre paying attention to me! I hate it when youโre here but your mind and eyes are elsewhere. Do you know how much I hate it?โ He kissed her again, his hand skillfully undoing the buttons of her blouse.
What is he doing? Sienna thought. Her back stiffened. No, this isnโt right! Not to mention his injuries, this is a hospital ward! She considered her options. Even injured, Josiah was far stronger.
In a flash, Sienna gathered her strength, kicking him in the abdomen.
โUgh!โ The kick hit his wound, causing him to release her, reeling back and landing heavily on the floor.
โJosiah!โ Sienna leaped from the bed, supporting him. His face was contorted with pain, sweat streaming down. He forced a smile. โSienna!โ He grasped her hand. โIt hurts! The woundโฆ itโs torn openโฆโ
Sienna saw the blood seeping through the bandages.
โAre you crazy?โ Sienna exclaimed angrily. โDid your brain get injured too?โ
Josiah stared at her reddening eyes and laughed unrestrainedly. As the pain intensified, he clutched her hand tighter. โGood, this is really goodโฆ You said you didnโt care, that it was all for Yvette. Now look, itโs not because of her. Itโs because of you!โ
Sienna was stunned. He is really out of his mind!
Josiahโs wounds needed resuturing. Since Sienna wasnโt immediate family, the hospital notified Howard.
Sienna sat outside the operating room. The sound of high heels approached.
โSienna!โ Yvette grabbed her, glaring. โWhat a vicious heart you have! I never thought much of you, but I didnโt expect you to be so vicious.โ
Sienna remained silent.
Yvette laughed coldly. โYouโre jealous, arenโt you? Jealous of me. Heโll always care about me.โ Josiah got hurt because of me. What can you do about it? He caresโฆ
