Chapter 25
Instead of entering, Sienna stepped back. "You guys are gobheads. I'll be right up."
Josiah raised an eyebrow in annoyance. "What are you doing? I said come in, so just come in already!" He reached out to grab her, then remembered Sienna disliked being touched by him. He hesitated, conflicted. All he could do was urge, "Come on. Hurry up and get in."
"No," Sienna firmly shook her head.
"Sienna Shaw!" Josiah's patience snapped. The elevator doors began closing.
"Hey!" Josiah tried to stop it, but failed. He muttered, "Annoying girl!"
Yvette and Janet exchanged glances. Yvette tugged Josiah's arm, smiling slightly. "Don't worry, Miranda has surgery today, and Sienna will be here."
"I know. But why isn't she coming up?" Josiah frowned.
Yvette hesitated, discomfort evident. "I think it might be because of me. Maybe she doesn't want to see me? We had a small argument a few days ago."
"An argument?" Josiah's expression darkened. "So what right does she have to avoid you? She's just too embarrassed to face you."
"Alright," Yvette said awkwardly, trying to soothe him. "How long ago was it? I was stressed that day. Can't we just move on?"
"Move on?" Josiah scoffed. "Did she just make a small mistake? That's something I can never forgive. How can we just forget about it?"
"Josiahโฆ" Yvette began.
Josiah cut her off. "Don't say anything more. You can forgive her because you have a soft heart. But I lost my nephew or nieceโI can never forgive that." Otherwise, how could he face Howard and the Flynn family?
Yvette remained silent. Remembering something, she asked, "By the way, last time you mentioned signing the divorce agreement. So, now you guysโฆ"
"There was a slight issue. We'll take care of it later," Josiah replied casually.
The elevator doors opened. Josiah stepped out, looked down at Yvette, and said, "Grandma doesn't know about this yet. She's really stubborn. Please keep it a secret for now."
"Okay," Yvette smiled, nodding. Hesitantly, she asked, "Did something go wrong? Did it fall through?"
"Yeah," Josiah paused. "Something unexpected came up. Let's go." He led the way.
Yvette followed, watching his figure. A wave of emotion washed over her.
Janet whispered excitedly, โYvette, Mr. Flynn is finally getting a divorce! This is your chance. You have to take it. He just needs to be a little more proactive.โ
Yvette frowned, scolding Janet quietly, "What are you talking about? Josiah and I are just friendsโmore like family."
"Iโฆ" Janet stammered.
Yvette warned firmly, "Don't say things like that again. If the media catches wind of it, who knows what kind of stories they'll come up with? Do you understand?"
"Y-Yes," Janet stammered.
"Let's go," Yvette said, catching up to Josiah.
Since Sienna hadn't arrived, they waited in the lobby. Six minutes later, Sienna appeared. Josiah looked at her, displeased. "Let's go. Grandma's waiting."
"Okay," Sienna replied.
They went to Miranda's roomโJosiah leading, Yvette following, and Sienna trailing behind.
Miranda, prepared for surgery, lay in the transfer room. Seeing them, she reached out eagerly. "You're all here." She grasped Josiah's and Yvette's hands. "It's okay. I'll be alright, so don't worry."
Then she noticed Sienna. "Sienna, come over here and let me see you."
Sienna stepped forward. Miranda took her hand. "You've been through a lot and you've grown up. When I get better, I'll still cherish you just like before, okay?"
"Okay. But you have to keep your word. Pinky promise, no lies. Liar, liar, pants on fire." Sienna linked pinkies with Miranda.
Miranda laughed. "There, I promise not to be a liar."
Josiah watched with a faint smile. Sienna might be useless and have a lousy character. But when it comes to making Grandma happy, no one can top her. Look, just a few words from her and Grandma is laughing her heart out. Neither Yvette nor I could manage that.
A nurse announced, "Time's up. Miranda, you need to go in."
The surgery would take five hours; the family could wait in the VIP lounge.
Around noon, Yvette checked the time. "Hey, what do you want to eat? I'll order for us."
"You decide. I'm good with anything," Josiah replied, his phone ringing. "I have to take this outside for a while."
Yvette and Sienna were left alone. Yvette smiled at Sienna. "What about you?"
Sienna paused, shaking her head. "No need. You guys go ahead." She grabbed her bag and left.
Yvette smirked. "You don't want any? That's fine by me. I wasn't really keen on eating with you either." She signaled Janet. "Could you order something? You know what Josiah likes, right?"
"Yeah, I got it. Don't worry," Janet replied.
By the time Josiah returned, the food had arrived. Yvette waved. "Come on, sit down. These are all your favorites. Eat while it's hot."
"Okay." Josiah sat down. He noticed something. "Where's Sienna?"
"She went out and said no need," Yvette said casually.
"No need?" Josiah chuckled sarcastically. Sheโs always saying that, she might as well patent the phrase, he thought. He tried to get up.
"Where are you going?" Yvette stopped him.
"Ask her to join us for dinner," Josiah replied.
"Forget it," Yvette laughed. "I think she really means it. Remember what she studied? Dance. Dieting is pretty important for her."
"Dieting?" Josiah raised an eyebrow. He'd seen Sienna eat.
"You don't know her like I do. She can eat," Yvette said, smiling.
Instantly, Yvetteโs face darkened.
