Chapter 270
Hearing his voice, Siema felt a pang in her heart, and her fingertips trembled. โCedric.โ
Cedric chuckled. โWhy are you calling? Is something wrong?โ
โYes,โ Sienna hesitated, unsure how to proceed.
Cedricโs tone shifted, sensing her hesitation. โDid Josiah do something?โ
โNo,โ Sienna closed her eyes and breathed deeply. โYou and Reyna. Are you still together?โ Deep down, she hoped they had broken up.
Cedricโs answer was straightforward. โYeah, we are.โ He sounded constrained. โBut why do you want to know, Sienna?โ
Sienna opened her mouth, hesitated, then blurted out, โCedric, you and Reyna canโt keep this going.โ
โWhy not?โ Cedric asked, surprised. Sienna wasnโt one to meddle. He wondered, โDo you know something I donโt?โ
โYes,โ Since sheโd started, there was no turning back. She had no idea how serious their relationship was, but Reyna wasnโt good enough for him. Sometimes, it was better to cut ties than prolong suffering. She said, โCedric, Iโm going to send you a photo. When you see it, youโll understand.โ
โOkay,โ Cedric replied, puzzled. The call ended, and he immediately received a WhatsApp notification. He opened it and saw the photo: Reyna was hugging Jamie, arms around his neck, kissing him.
Cedric sneered; he understood.
It was only afternoon, but Cedric was in no mood to work. He gave his assistant brief instructions, left the office, and drove home.
The Brawne family bustled with activity, preparing for the Fischer familyโs dinner. This was their first time hosting them, and Xenia was taking it very seriously.
Evan returned home briefly to copy documents. As he went downstairs, he heard his wifeโs voice booming. โHowโs the stew coming along? And why hasnโt the carpet been changed yet? Didnโt I tell you to switch it to the beige one, Hilda?โ
Xenia turned, seeing her husband. Evan smiled reassuringly. โNo need to be so nervous. Itโs just a casual dinner.โ
โHow can I not be nervous?โ Xenia laughed, her exhaustion masked by joy. โThink of all the girls weโve introduced to Cedric recently. Itโs not easy to find someone heโs willing to get to know betterโฆโ
โTrue,โ Evan nodded, smiling. He couldnโt mention that Reyna slightly resembled Sienna, which was probably why Cedric gave her a chance.
โItโs all good now,โ Xenia said, satisfied with Reynaโs background. โI just hope they hit it off and get married in a year or two.โ
โYeah,โ Evan kept nodding and smiling.
โYou!โ Xenia glared at her husband. โAll you ever say is โyeahโ! Donโt you have anything else to add? I canโt imagine what would have happened to our son if Iโd left it all to you!โ
She continued, โThank goodness I took some measures. Otherwise, Cedric would have been messed up by Sienna.โ
โMom,โ Cedric called.
Both Xenia and Evan looked up.
โCedric, why are you back?โ Xenia panicked. They hadnโt noticed him enter. How much had he overheard?
Cedricโs eyes flashed with intensity. A faint anger shadowed his usually calm face. โMom, what did you do back then?โ
โSonโฆโ Xenia felt a knot in her stomach. She grasped his arm. โLet me explain.โ
โOkay,โ Cedric replied, his gaze fixed on her. โIโm listening.โ
โCedricโฆโ Xeniaโs voice trembled. What could she say? She never imagined past decisions would resurface because of her pride.
โSay something. Are you going to stay silent?โ Cedric pursed his lips, struggling to control his anger. โWhat exactly did you do to Sienna?โ Heโd always thought theyโd broken up because of Josiahโs interference.
โCould it beโฆโ Cedricโs eyes darkened. โDid Sienna and I break up not because of Josiah?โ
โCedricโฆโ Xenia was at a loss for words; the truth was far more complicated than he could imagine.
โWhat happened! Tell me!โ Cedric demanded, remembering Siennaโs tears. His heart ached. Thinking back to that day in Flirty, he remembered Siennaโs joy at seeing him; she seemed ready to be with him, but then she changed. Something was off.
โCould it be thatโฆโ he murmured.
Xenia remained silent, and Cedric guessed. โSienna didnโt want to, and you and Josiah worked together to force her or set her up.โ If that was true, heโd been a jerk.
Xenia shook her head vigorously. โNo, I didnโt collude with Mr. Flynn. I found someone from Flirty, but I donโt know why Sienna ended up withโฆโ
She sneered, โIf you ask me, sheโs just shameless, juggling you and Josiah.โ
โMom!โ Cedric roared, his face pale, veins bulging on his forehead. He looked at his mother with sadness and disappointment. โStop it, just stop.โ A wave of pain shot through his heart. His mother had harmed the girl he loved. How scared and desperate Sienna must have been.
โNo,โ Xenia denied. โI just asked that person to frighten herโฆโ
โEnough,โ Cedric said, utterly disappointed, his eyes bloodshot. โMom, do you love me?โ
โCedricโฆโ Xeniaโs heart skipped a beat. โOf course, I doโโ
โNo,โ Cedric shook his head, a sardonic smile playing on his lips. โYou destroyed my love with your own hands. Canโt you see? Sienna is the first person Iโve ever loved in my twenty-five years.โ
Xeniaโs heart sank. She was shocked and angry. โI only did it for your own good. A woman like Sienna isnโt worthy of you.โ
Cedric was taken aback, then burst into laughter. He couldnโt stop for a while. Xenia and Evan exchanged worried glances. โCedricโฆโ they called.
Cedric stopped laughing and raised his eyebrows sarcastically. โSo, Sienna isnโt good enough for me, and instead, you chose someone like Reyna?โ
