Chapter 270

Hearing his voice, Siema felt a pang in her heart, and her fingertips trembled. โ€œCedric.โ€

Cedric chuckled. โ€œWhy are you calling? Is something wrong?โ€

โ€œYes,โ€ Sienna hesitated, unsure how to proceed.

Cedricโ€™s tone shifted, sensing her hesitation. โ€œDid Josiah do something?โ€

โ€œNo,โ€ Sienna closed her eyes and breathed deeply. โ€œYou and Reyna. Are you still together?โ€ Deep down, she hoped they had broken up.

Cedricโ€™s answer was straightforward. โ€œYeah, we are.โ€ He sounded constrained. โ€œBut why do you want to know, Sienna?โ€

Sienna opened her mouth, hesitated, then blurted out, โ€œCedric, you and Reyna canโ€™t keep this going.โ€

โ€œWhy not?โ€ Cedric asked, surprised. Sienna wasnโ€™t one to meddle. He wondered, โ€œDo you know something I donโ€™t?โ€

โ€œYes,โ€ Since sheโ€™d started, there was no turning back. She had no idea how serious their relationship was, but Reyna wasnโ€™t good enough for him. Sometimes, it was better to cut ties than prolong suffering. She said, โ€œCedric, Iโ€™m going to send you a photo. When you see it, youโ€™ll understand.โ€

โ€œOkay,โ€ Cedric replied, puzzled. The call ended, and he immediately received a WhatsApp notification. He opened it and saw the photo: Reyna was hugging Jamie, arms around his neck, kissing him.

Cedric sneered; he understood.

It was only afternoon, but Cedric was in no mood to work. He gave his assistant brief instructions, left the office, and drove home.

The Brawne family bustled with activity, preparing for the Fischer familyโ€™s dinner. This was their first time hosting them, and Xenia was taking it very seriously.

Evan returned home briefly to copy documents. As he went downstairs, he heard his wifeโ€™s voice booming. โ€œHowโ€™s the stew coming along? And why hasnโ€™t the carpet been changed yet? Didnโ€™t I tell you to switch it to the beige one, Hilda?โ€

Xenia turned, seeing her husband. Evan smiled reassuringly. โ€œNo need to be so nervous. Itโ€™s just a casual dinner.โ€

โ€œHow can I not be nervous?โ€ Xenia laughed, her exhaustion masked by joy. โ€œThink of all the girls weโ€™ve introduced to Cedric recently. Itโ€™s not easy to find someone heโ€™s willing to get to know betterโ€ฆโ€

โ€œTrue,โ€ Evan nodded, smiling. He couldnโ€™t mention that Reyna slightly resembled Sienna, which was probably why Cedric gave her a chance.

โ€œItโ€™s all good now,โ€ Xenia said, satisfied with Reynaโ€™s background. โ€œI just hope they hit it off and get married in a year or two.โ€

โ€œYeah,โ€ Evan kept nodding and smiling.

โ€œYou!โ€ Xenia glared at her husband. โ€œAll you ever say is โ€˜yeahโ€™! Donโ€™t you have anything else to add? I canโ€™t imagine what would have happened to our son if Iโ€™d left it all to you!โ€

She continued, โ€œThank goodness I took some measures. Otherwise, Cedric would have been messed up by Sienna.โ€

โ€œMom,โ€ Cedric called.

Both Xenia and Evan looked up.

โ€œCedric, why are you back?โ€ Xenia panicked. They hadnโ€™t noticed him enter. How much had he overheard?

Cedricโ€™s eyes flashed with intensity. A faint anger shadowed his usually calm face. โ€œMom, what did you do back then?โ€

โ€œSonโ€ฆโ€ Xenia felt a knot in her stomach. She grasped his arm. โ€œLet me explain.โ€

โ€œOkay,โ€ Cedric replied, his gaze fixed on her. โ€œIโ€™m listening.โ€

โ€œCedricโ€ฆโ€ Xeniaโ€™s voice trembled. What could she say? She never imagined past decisions would resurface because of her pride.

โ€œSay something. Are you going to stay silent?โ€ Cedric pursed his lips, struggling to control his anger. โ€œWhat exactly did you do to Sienna?โ€ Heโ€™d always thought theyโ€™d broken up because of Josiahโ€™s interference.

โ€œCould it beโ€ฆโ€ Cedricโ€™s eyes darkened. โ€œDid Sienna and I break up not because of Josiah?โ€

โ€œCedricโ€ฆโ€ Xenia was at a loss for words; the truth was far more complicated than he could imagine.

โ€œWhat happened! Tell me!โ€ Cedric demanded, remembering Siennaโ€™s tears. His heart ached. Thinking back to that day in Flirty, he remembered Siennaโ€™s joy at seeing him; she seemed ready to be with him, but then she changed. Something was off.

โ€œCould it be thatโ€ฆโ€ he murmured.

Xenia remained silent, and Cedric guessed. โ€œSienna didnโ€™t want to, and you and Josiah worked together to force her or set her up.โ€ If that was true, heโ€™d been a jerk.

Xenia shook her head vigorously. โ€œNo, I didnโ€™t collude with Mr. Flynn. I found someone from Flirty, but I donโ€™t know why Sienna ended up withโ€ฆโ€

She sneered, โ€œIf you ask me, sheโ€™s just shameless, juggling you and Josiah.โ€

โ€œMom!โ€ Cedric roared, his face pale, veins bulging on his forehead. He looked at his mother with sadness and disappointment. โ€œStop it, just stop.โ€ A wave of pain shot through his heart. His mother had harmed the girl he loved. How scared and desperate Sienna must have been.

โ€œNo,โ€ Xenia denied. โ€œI just asked that person to frighten herโ€ฆโ€

โ€œEnough,โ€ Cedric said, utterly disappointed, his eyes bloodshot. โ€œMom, do you love me?โ€

โ€œCedricโ€ฆโ€ Xeniaโ€™s heart skipped a beat. โ€œOf course, I doโ€”โ€

โ€œNo,โ€ Cedric shook his head, a sardonic smile playing on his lips. โ€œYou destroyed my love with your own hands. Canโ€™t you see? Sienna is the first person Iโ€™ve ever loved in my twenty-five years.โ€

Xeniaโ€™s heart sank. She was shocked and angry. โ€œI only did it for your own good. A woman like Sienna isnโ€™t worthy of you.โ€

Cedric was taken aback, then burst into laughter. He couldnโ€™t stop for a while. Xenia and Evan exchanged worried glances. โ€œCedricโ€ฆโ€ they called.

Cedric stopped laughing and raised his eyebrows sarcastically. โ€œSo, Sienna isnโ€™t good enough for me, and instead, you chose someone like Reyna?โ€
