Chapter 314
Josiah's car pulled up to the Sunshine Neighborhood apartment building and stopped beneath Taraโs. They carried quite a few items, so Zach accompanied Josiah.
Tara opened the door and asked, "Mr. Flynn, what brings you here?"
"Tara," Josiah said, setting down his packages. "I've brought some things for Joyer."
"Quite a lot, huh," Tara remarked.
"Mm," Josiah mumbled, glancing inside.
Tara announced, "Joyer's mom is giving her a bath right now. She just went in. She loves playing in the water."
Josiah, slightly disappointed he wouldn't see mother and daughter, said, "Ah, I seeโฆ I'll leave these here then. I should be going."
"Alright, take your time," Tara replied.
After closing the door, Tara went into the bathroom. Sienna heard the commotion and asked, "Tara, what's up? Property management or security?"
"It's Mr. Flynn," Tara replied. "He brought a bunch of New Year's goods. Though," she chuckled, "I think his intentions might be more than just gifts."
Sienna was surprised. "He just wanted to see Joyer, right?"
"I think it's more than that," Tara said, her smile knowing. "In my opinion, he probably came to see you."
"Tara," Sienna exclaimed, her eyes widening. "Don't be ridiculous."
"Why is it ridiculous?" Tara's smile widened. "At my age, I have a better sense of these things than you. Just wait and see." Tara bent down, touching Joyce's head in the tub. "Joyce was right. No one who meets her mom doesn't like her."
Then, Tara frowned. "But Mr. Flynn said he has a girlfriend, right? That's not good!" She slapped her thigh. "Sienna, thisโฆ"
Unaware of Tara's assessment, after delivering the New Year's goods, Mr. Flynn sat in his car, watching the vehicle following him. He instructed Zach, "Take him for a spin."
"Yes, sir," Zach replied, understanding. The car circled the bustling downtown area before stopping at Mousea House. The man inexplicably followed, doing nothing.
Josiah frowned. "What on earth does he want! Pull into the garage, stop, and you, Zach, take Chester and James and leave first."
Zach wanted to object; it was too dangerous.
"Do as I say!" Josiah insisted.
"Yes, sir." Zach reluctantly complied.
Once in the garage, Zach exited first, taking Chester and James. They maintained a distance, secretly following Josiah.
Josiah exited the car, called Yosef, and smirked, "Alright, stop the chatter, I'm almost thereโฆ" Distracted, he noticed a figure following himโnot Zach and the others. It was the man.
Josiah smirked, turned a corner, hid behind a pillar, and then lunged, apprehending the man.
He pinned the man's arms behind his back against the pillar. The man wore a black hoodie, his face obscured, but Josiah pulled down the hood.
"Figures it's you!" Josiah exclaimed. The face was the same one the security guard had photographed.
Chapter 313 (continued)
"Mr. Flynn," the immobilized man said, "Don't get the wrong idea. I mean no harm."
Josiah sneered. "No harm? Following me like a goldfish's poop and calling it no harm? Tell me, which Evans family member hired you? What do they want?"
"Sir," the man panted, "You know about the Evans family? Mr. Evans sent me!"
Josiah scoffed. "So quick to confess? How could the Evans family hire a good-for-nothing like you! Which Mr. Evans?!"
He pondered the few remaining Evans men worthy of the title "Mr. Evans." Andy was foremost, but his sons were useless. The rest were Andy's relativesโfreeloaders living off his generosity.
"Talk!"
The man said, "Sir, I came to deliver a message from Mr. Evansโฆ"
"Speak," Josiah demanded.
"Sir, Andy wants to see you. It's important, and Mr. Evans doesn't want to make a fuss," the man explained.
Josiah was stunned. Andy wants to see me? What could he possibly want? And not wanting to make a fuss!
Josiah narrowed his eyes. "Tell the truth."
"This is the truth," the man nodded. "Sir, if I wanted to hurt you, I wouldn't have been so easily caught, right?!"
Josiah, aware of this, had deliberately sent Zach and the others away. He released the man.
"Ouch," the man rubbed his shoulder, smiling. "Thank you, sir. Sir, what about Mr. Evans'sโฆ"
Josiah's lips moved. "Go back and tell him Iโฆ"
The man's face fell. "How am I supposed to explain?"
"I don't care how you explain," Josiah glared. "I won't see him."
Josiah continued, "The Flynn and Evans families have never had much to do with each other. Andy can be as arrogant as he wants. He wants to see me, and I just have to go? Ridiculous!"
"No, sir. Mr. Evans might have something importantโฆ" the man pleaded.
"Get out!" Josiah spat, sneering. "Not leaving? Waiting for my people to deal with you?" He lifted his chin. "You've heard of Chester and James, right!"
"I dare not!" The man, startled, scrambled away. Zach, with Chester and James, immediately appeared behind Josiah.
"Sir, what's the deal?" Zach asked. Josiah shook his head. He, too, wondered what Andy was up to.
After putting Joyce to sleep, Sienna and Tara sorted through Josiah's gifts.
"Wow, all good stuff," Tara remarked. "The quality surpasses anything we could get ourselves."
Chapter 314 (continued)
"There's just too much," Tara worried. "There are only three of us. We can't possibly use all of this."
Sienna suggested, "Let's keep what we need and pack the rest to give away. Tara, you can send some to your relatives."
Tara hesitated. "Well, I don't know if that's appropriateโฆ"
"There's nothing inappropriate about it. It would be a waste otherwise," Sienna replied.
"Then I won't be shy. Thank you, Sienna," Tara said gratefully.
"You're welcome," Sienna responded, adding silently that she should also take some to Rosie, who would be alone for New Year's.
Meanwhile, Josiah returned to the Flynn residence, going straight upstairs to Howard's door.
"Howard, are you there? I'm coming in," Josiah called, but received no response.
Confused, Josiah opened the door to find the room empty. Howard was gone.
