Chapter 334
Yvette’s eyes welled, her voice shaky. “How can someone’s heart change so quickly?”
Josiah frowned, concerned. “Yvette,” he said, struggling for the right words. “My brother never had feelings for Rosic. Before you left for Lacustria, he was always restrained and rational about relationships. He doesn't deal with feelings emotionally; it’s always about what should be done.”
He continued, “Even now, I think he feels responsible and guilty toward Rosic. Taking care of her is his duty.”
Yvette seemed stunned. “He said the same thing. So, I guess I pushed him away.” Tears streamed down her face as she leaned against Josiah’s shoulder, sighing heavily. Josiah felt unsure how to comfort her.
Footsteps echoed in the hallway. Sienna approached. Before Josiah could speak, his phone buzzed. “Yvette,” he said, stepping back to answer. “It’s Grandma.”
He answered, “What happened, Grandma?” Miranda urged them home. “What’s taking so long? Your brother isn’t back yet, and where are you two?”
“Grandma, we’re on our way back… Yes, with Howard,” he assured her. Seeing Sienna at the door, he quickly hung up.
“Grandma, I’ll talk to you later,” he said, pocketing his phone and catching up to Sienna. “You’re leaving? Let me drive you home.”
Sienna was returning to Joyce, who missed her dearly. “No, thanks,” she said, gently refusing. “I can go back myself. It’s a holiday, and Grandma is waiting for you.”
“Howard isn’t ready yet.”
“Really, it’s not necessary.” A hint of helplessness colored her features. “Aren’t you visiting Joyce tomorrow? I’ll have breakfast ready. See you then?”
Josiah’s tense expression softened; a smile crept onto his lips. “Okay,” he said, though he insisted, “I’ll have someone drive you. Call me when you get home.” Sienna agreed. The nursing home was out of the way, and getting a ride on a holiday would be difficult. Josiah arranged transport from the facility, helped Sienna into the vehicle, and waved goodbye.
“See you tomorrow morning.”
“Yeah,” Sienna replied, a slight smile curving her lips, a shadow fleeting across her eyes.
Chapter 331
Sienna needed to discuss things with Josiah. The next morning, at seven o’clock, he arrived. Sienna opened the door.
“Morning, Sienna,” he greeted, wearing a black cashmere beanie. He held a small box. “This is a bouncy toy for Joyce. I’m going to set it up with her soon,” he said, stepping inside. “I don’t have to worry about work for a while, so I can spend more quality time with Joyce.”
He settled onto the couch and lowered his voice. “Joyce isn’t awake yet, right?”
“Not yet,” Sienna nodded, sitting across from him. “You came a bit early; it’s just getting light.” She met his gaze. “There’s something I need to tell you.”
“What is it?” Josiah grinned, oblivious to the impending conversation.
“I was wondering if you have time… could you swing by the hospital?” Sienna hesitated, her voice barely a whisper. “Of course, not right now. Maybe once you’re feeling better…”
Josiah’s brow furrowed; his smile faded. “What do you need to go to the hospital for?”
Sienna took a deep breath. “It’s about Joyce.”
“Hmm,” Josiah said, still unclear. “Can you be a bit clearer?”
“Alright…” It was difficult, but for Joyce’s sake, she had to say it. “I’m not able to conceive right now, but once I recover, if there’s no other option… I think I need to give Joyce a sibling.”
Realization hit Josiah. “You mean…”
Worry etched his features. “You’re planning on going the artificial insemination route…”
“Yeah,” Sienna nodded, relieved.
A heaviness settled in Josiah’s heart. Then he thought, Before, Sienna needed to be with me for Joyce. Now that she’s moving on, of course… With medical advancements, wanting a child didn’t necessitate being together. “But… isn’t it a bit early for that?”
“It’s not too early,” Sienna’s eyes sparkled with determination. “I’ve been thinking about when to tell you, and I believe now is the right time.”
Josiah’s face darkened. “What do you mean by that? Why wouldn’t it be convenient?”
Sienna paused. “Didn’t you already know that Howard broke up with Yvette?”
“Yeah,” Josiah nodded. “So, what’s the connection between these two things?”
Chapter 334 (continued)
Sienna scrutinized him, unsure if he truly didn’t understand or was feigning ignorance.
“Come on, speak up,” Josiah urged, impatience creeping in.
“Your chance is here,” Sienna continued, a faint smile playing on her lips. “Before, Yvette was Howard’s fiancée. You couldn’t have had this chance, but things are different now. You two can be together.”
Josiah was stunned, speechless. He thought, What is going on in her mind?
Sienna grabbed a cup, took a sip, and continued, “Howard won’t say anything. Grandma might oppose it at first, but she’ll agree eventually.” The Flynn family could manage the narrative. They couldn’t silence everyone, but given time, new gossip would emerge.
Josiah let out a dry laugh, his eyes fixed on Sienna. His jaw was tight. “Is that all?”
“Um,” Sienna set down the cup. “Once you’re together, it’ll be hard for us to meet. So, I think you should get a liquid nitrogen freeze early. That way, I can deal with the hospital directly later and save you the hassle. For Joyce, I need to trouble you. I hope you can agree, for Joyce’s sake. It’s something you owe her.”
Sienna pressed her lips together. “Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone about this, especially Yvette. It absolutely won’t affect your relationship. Joyce and her siblings are my children alone, and they’ll never have anything to do with you.”
