Chapter 353

Josiah frowned, his gaze icy. โ€œYou just let her walk away alone! What if something happened to her? Is that your responsibility?โ€

โ€œNo! She wasnโ€™t alone!โ€ the nurse exclaimed, shaking her head vehemently. โ€œCedric came to collect her!โ€

Josiahโ€™s eyes widened. Cedric arrived at the Sunshine Neighborhood and parked beneath Siennaโ€™s apartment building. As he stepped out with Sienna, unease gnawed at him. โ€œOnce youโ€™re inside, Iโ€™ll leave,โ€ he said. Sienna had only just been discharged; caution was best.

โ€œOkay,โ€ Sienna nodded, smiling. As she turned to enter, a childโ€™s voice called from the roadside. โ€œMommy!โ€

Sienna spun around to see Joyer, who had leaped from Taraโ€™s arms and was running toward her. Her face lit up. โ€œMommy! Itโ€™s Mommy! Tara said it wasnโ€™t, but I have good eyes! Itโ€™s Mommy!โ€

Sienna bent down, arms outstretched. To her surprise, Joyce pounced on Cedric, wrapping her arms around his leg. โ€œMommy, hold me!โ€

Siennaโ€™s eyes widened. โ€œJoyce!โ€

Tara, following behind, laughed. โ€œJoyce, you said you had good eyesight. Look, is this your mommy youโ€™re hanging onto?โ€

Joyce looked up, puzzled. Her gaze shifted to Cedric. Blinking innocently, she declared, โ€œNot Mommy,โ€ but still clung to Cedricโ€™s leg.

Cedric felt a surge of anxiety; this was his first experience being clung to by such a small child. He dared not move, fearing he might hurt her.

Peering down at Joyce, he realized she was Siennaโ€™s daughter. Smiling warmly, he greeted, โ€œHello, Joyce.โ€

โ€œHello!โ€ Joyce replied cheerfully.

Cedric swallowed. โ€œBe careful not to fall; shall I lift you up?โ€

โ€œOkay!โ€ Joyce nodded eagerly, reaching out her arms.

Cedric gently lifted Joyce; her small form was utterly enchanting.

As he stood, slightly stiff with nervousness, Sienna suppressed a laugh and extended her hand. โ€œJoyce, come here to Mommy.โ€

โ€œMommy!โ€ Joyce obediently leaped into Siennaโ€™s embrace.

Cedric breathed a sigh of relief. He had never felt such apprehension. Sienna giggled, gesturing to Cedric. โ€œThis is my friend, Cedric.โ€

Cedric felt marginally more at ease, though a touch of awkwardness lingered. Heโ€™d arrived empty-handed. โ€œI arrived in a hurry and didnโ€™t bring you a present. May I make it up to you next time?โ€

โ€œOkay! Thank you, Cedric.โ€

Sienna playfully patted Joyerโ€™s nose. Joyer shyly nestled into her motherโ€™s embrace. Smiling, Sienna turned to Cedric. โ€œGoodbye, Cedric.โ€

โ€œGoodbye,โ€ Cedric replied.

โ€œLetโ€™s go,โ€ Sienna held Joyerโ€™s hand. โ€œJoyce, say goodbye to Cedric.โ€

โ€œGoodbye, Cedric.โ€

Cedric stood grinning as they entered the building. Not far away, Josiah gripped his steering wheel, his dark eyes fixed forward. He had witnessed everything. He couldnโ€™t hear their words, yet the image of Sienna embracing Joyce, playfully interacting with Cedric, was seared into his mind.

It didnโ€™t matter what they were talking about. Josiah chuckled coldly. He thought, โ€œWhat is Sienna thinking? Does she really intend to repay her debt of gratitude by being with Cedric and dragging my daughter into this?!โ€

Josiahโ€™s grip tightened. He wouldnโ€™t allow his daughter to have another father, not while he was alive.

Meanwhile, Cedric turned to his car. As his eyes lifted, he froze. He saw Josiahโ€™s car idling at the intersection. That Bentley could belong to no one else. Cedricโ€™s brow furrowed; he wondered if Josiah was planning to confront Sienna again.

Inside the car, Josiah sensed Cedricโ€™s gaze. With a cold smile, he revved the engine, turned, and departed.

That night, some found peaceful slumber, while others lay awake.

The next morning, Sienna was washing up when her phone chimed. It was a message from Josiah: [Iโ€™m downstairs; I need to talk to you.]

Furrowing her brow, Sienna dialed Josiah directly. โ€œHello,โ€ he answered instantly.

โ€œWhat do you want now?!โ€ Siennaโ€™s impatience was palpable. โ€œI will not meet with you, Josiah. Donโ€™t think you can act without consequence. If you donโ€™t leave, I will call security. Even if you are Mr. Flynn, you cannot disregard the rules.โ€

โ€œCalm down,โ€ Josiahโ€™s tone was surprisingly amiable. โ€œDidnโ€™t I say I have something to discuss?โ€

โ€œThereโ€™s nothing left to say! Everything has been said a thousand times!โ€

โ€œItโ€™s about Joyce.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ Sienna halted. โ€œWhat do you mean? Havenโ€™t we already come to an agreement regarding Joyce?โ€ She bit her lip anxiously. โ€œAre you having second thoughts?โ€

Josiah remained noncommittal. โ€œI canโ€™t explain everything over the phone; we need to meet.โ€

Sienna gripped her phone, frustration mounting. Glancing at blissfully sleeping Joyce, she reluctantly agreed. โ€œFine!โ€

Downstairs, Sienna climbed into the car. โ€œItโ€™s not convenient to talk here,โ€ Josiah said softly. โ€œLetโ€™s find somewhere to sit down properly.โ€

Sienna said nothing. Josiah took her to Soup Bowls. โ€œYou havenโ€™t had breakfast yet, right? I recall you like their food.โ€

Leading her to a private booth, Josiahโ€™s politeness felt overwhelming. Sienna, impatient, pressed, โ€œNow that weโ€™re here, letโ€™s talk about Joyceโ€ฆโ€

Suddenly, he stood, walked before Sienna, and knelt on one knee.
