Chapter 364

Joyce snuggled closer to Josiah, whispering in a trembling voice, “Stay with me, Mr. Flynn. Don’t go.”

“Alright, I’ll stay,” Josiah replied softly, reassuring her with a gentle pat on the back. Joyce remained calm as the nurse administered the IV. The combination of discomfort and crying drained her energy, and as the IV drip began, her eyelids grew heavy. She drifted into a drowsy sleep. Sienna, watching nearby, felt her own anxiety slowly subside.

Josiah finally had a moment to ask about Joyce’s condition. “What happened?”

“Virus,” Sienna answered, crossing her arms. Her gaze was distant. “Joyce’s immune system is weaker than most kids. If this isn’t treated properly, there’s no way to predict the outcome.”

Josiah’s expression darkened. A flash of tension crossed his eyes before he muttered softly, more to himself than to Sienna, “She’ll be okay. She will.”

His phone buzzed. The vibration was subtle, but Sienna, standing close, saw it was Yvette calling. A frown immediately formed on her face.

Josiah shifted Joyce in his arms and pulled out his phone. A call came from the nurse’s station. His eyebrow twitched as he glanced at Sienna. Sienna frowned, turning away, clearly irritated.

“Sienna,” Josiah said, hesitating before answering his phone just as the ringing ended. He lowered his voice, “Hello!”

The nurse said, “Mr. Flynn! Ms. Young is trying to jump off the building!”

Josiah’s heart leaped. “I’ll be right there,” he said quickly, hanging up. He looked at Sienna with urgency. “Sienna, I need to go. Joyce is asleep, and I’ll be right back.”

“How long will it take?” Sienna snapped, her gaze cold. “Joyce could wake up at any moment. You’re not going anywhere!”

Josiah was torn. “I don’t want to leave, but Yvette…”

“What’s going on with her?” Sienna asked.

Before Josiah could explain, Sienna gave him a sharp glance. “I’ll go with you. I’m going to see what kind of mess she’s causing.” She turned to Tara, who was now holding Joyce. “Tara, take care of Joyce. I won’t be long.”

“Alright,” Tara replied, her own worry evident.

Sienna stepped out, glaring back at Josiah. “Aren’t you going?”

“Sienna,” Josiah urged, aware of the urgency. He didn't stop her from following him.

They arrived to find Yvette sitting precariously on the windowsill.

Sienna thought, ‘So this is the drama she’s pulling now? A suicide attempt.’

Josiah’s fury flared. He turned to the nurses. “How could you let her get up here?”

“Mr. Flynn, Ms. Young tricked us,” a nurse explained, ashamed. Yvette had used her wheelchair to maneuver herself to the window.

Sienna scoffed. “Looks like she really wants to die.”

Josiah turned to Sienna, his breath quickening.

“What?” Sienna raised an eyebrow. “Go check on her. She’s about to die anyway.”

Yvette, hearing the commotion, turned. Seeing Josiah, tears streamed down her face. “What are you doing here? Didn’t you abandon me?”

Josiah stepped forward cautiously. “Yvette, you misunderstood. I didn’t abandon you… Please, just come down and we can talk.”

“No!” Yvette shouted, backing away. “Don’t come any closer! You’re lying! You’ve always been lying!”

She pointed at Sienna. “You went to her, didn’t you? She’s the one you care about!” Yvette sobbed. “Howard’s with Rosie now, and you… you don’t want me anymore.”

She glared at Josiah. “Josiah, I’ve become like this all for you. Now you don’t want me anymore… I’m just a burden.”

“Then just die,” Sienna said, striding forward.

Yvette was stunned. “What did you say?”

Sienna smiled indifferently. “You said you don’t want to live, right? Go ahead and kill yourself then!”

Josiah grabbed Sienna. “Don’t.”

Sienna shook him off, her eyes blazing. “You’re right, he doesn’t want you! He just left you behind to come find me! Are you heartbroken? Then hurry up and do it!” She pointed to the window. “Do it! The world will be a better place without you!”

Yvette was speechless, trembling.

“What are you waiting for?” Sienna barked.

Yvette screamed, clutching her head. “Fine. I’ll let you two have what you want…”

She looked at Josiah with a tearful smile. “Josiah, I’m leaving…”

“Don’t!” Josiah yelled.

Yvette threw herself from the window. Josiah screamed, “Yvette!”

Sienna felt a rush of wind. Josiah was already at the windowsill, half out, Yvette hanging precariously.

“Yvette!” Josiah cried, his face contorted with pain. “Hold on! Don’t let go!”

Nurses and care workers rushed in, shouting, “Mr. Flynn, hang in there. We’ve called 911!”

Josiah shouted, “Yvette, hold on!”

Sienna watched coldly, murmuring, “What a pair of love-stricken fools.” She turned and walked away.
