Chapter 379

Holding Sienna close, Josiah felt everything else fade into insignificance. He would have his own family, his own loved ones. The heart that had felt shattered for days was finally home.

โ€œSiennaโ€ฆโ€ His voice trailed off as Siennaโ€™s phone rang. โ€œOne call,โ€ Sienna said, gently disengaging from his embrace and moving toward the door. โ€œIโ€™ll take this outside.โ€

โ€œOkay.โ€ Assuming it was the film crew, Josiah nodded, unconcerned. He was wrong; it wasnโ€™t the crew. It was the hospital lab, likely with the compatibility test results.

โ€œHello,โ€ Sienna said, stepping outside, her heart pounding, breath held tight. โ€œThis is Sienna.โ€

The doctor said, โ€œThe compatibility test results are back. Itโ€™s a match.โ€

Sienna was stunned, tears blurring her vision. โ€œIt is,โ€ she whispered, overcome with emotion.

The doctor, sensing her feelings, replied with a hint of a smile, โ€œItโ€™s true, wonderful news. Your child can be saved.โ€

Sienna covered her mouth, fighting back tears. โ€œThank you,โ€ she managed.

โ€œYouโ€™re welcome,โ€ the doctor responded. โ€œThe person you should thank is the gentleman who matched. For specifics, please speak with Dr. Nelson.โ€

โ€œAlright.โ€ After hanging up, Sienna clutched her trembling phone. Initially, she hadn't dared to hope. Even she and Josiah hadn't matched with Joyce, and Conner was only her uncle. Unexpectedly, it had matched. Joyce could be saved.

Thinking of Conner, Sienna dialed his number. โ€œDid the results come out?โ€ she asked.

โ€œSienna,โ€ Conner replied quickly, knowing the results were due.

โ€œYes,โ€ Sienna answered, gripping the phone, a complex mix of emotions surging towards him.

โ€œHow did it go?โ€ Connerโ€™s tone was urgent. โ€œDid it work?โ€

โ€œYes,โ€ Sienna said slowly, clearly.

โ€œIt matched?โ€ Connerโ€™s voice rose with excitement. โ€œIt really matched? Thatโ€™s amazing! Sienna, you wonโ€™t be in danger anymore. I can save you. Youโ€™ll be okay, safe and healthy, and live well.โ€

Hearing his excited voice, Siennaโ€™s eyes welled up.

Conner, sensing her silence, sounded concerned. โ€œSienna, are you there? Can you hear me?โ€

โ€œConner,โ€ Sienna said, her voice thick with emotion, โ€œthank you.โ€

โ€œWhy do you keep saying that?โ€ Conner said, his displeasure tinged with undeniable joy. โ€œA brother protects his sister. Itโ€™s what Iโ€™m supposed to do.โ€

After a moment, he asked, โ€œWhen are we going to the hospital? Shouldnโ€™t the surgery be as soon as possible? Should we start making arrangements?โ€

Sienna replied calmly, โ€œI need to check with the doctor first, see what needs to be arranged.โ€

โ€œOf course!โ€ Conner answered immediately. โ€œIโ€™ll be waiting for your call.โ€

Sienna replied, โ€œAlright.โ€

Before hanging up, Conner added with a smile, โ€œSienna, cheer up. Youโ€™re still so young; you have a long life ahead. The tough times are behind you. From now on, itโ€™s only good days.โ€

โ€œYeah.โ€ After hanging up, Sienna closed her eyes, tears streaming down her cheeks. โ€˜Hopefully, Joyce will be blessed and live a new life,โ€™ she thought.

She wiped her tears, washed her face, and returned to the hospital room. Josiahโ€™s neck was stiff from waiting. โ€œWhat took you so long? Did the crew call you back?โ€

โ€œNo,โ€ Sienna shook her head, sitting beside the bed. โ€œI donโ€™t have any scenes today, so I didnโ€™t need to go back.โ€

โ€œSo that means you can spend the whole day with me?โ€ The anticipation in his eyes was clear.

Sienna hesitated, then nodded. โ€œYes.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s wonderful,โ€ Josiah smiled, taking her hand. โ€œSienna, youโ€™re amazing.โ€

Sienna smiled gently.

Josiah looked at her with earnest eyes. โ€œSienna, donโ€™t worry, I can take care of you and Joyce. Iโ€™ll make sure you both have a good life. The alimony I gave you was earned by myself. When Iโ€™m out of the hospital, weโ€™ll plan the wedding. You, Joyce, and meโ€”weโ€™ll be a family.โ€ He excitedly detailed his plans.

Sienna interrupted, โ€œAlright, youโ€™ve just gotten better and youโ€™re already fussing? After this IV, you should be sleepy. Lie down and rest. The more you sleep, the faster youโ€™ll recover.โ€

โ€œOkay,โ€ Josiah obediently quieted, nodding. โ€œIโ€™ll listen to you.โ€

Sienna helped him lie down. โ€œClose your eyes and sleep.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t go,โ€ he said.

โ€œI wonโ€™t,โ€ she replied.

Satisfied, he closed his eyes and slept soundly. The room fell silent. Sienna watched his peaceful face, lost in thought.

Josiah remained in the hospital all day. The next morning, Sienna left early for the set, leaving him asleep. When he awoke, he found Howard sitting by his bed, peeling an apple.

โ€œHoward, why are you here?โ€ Josiah asked.

Howard paused, glared at Josiah. โ€œWhat? You donโ€™t want to see me? Am I some sort of dirty thing?โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s not what I meant,โ€ Josiah shook his head, looking around anxiously.

โ€œStop looking,โ€ Howard said. โ€œSiennaโ€™s on set. Look at you, acting all pitiful.โ€ He pointed to the bedside table. โ€œShe left you a note.โ€

Josiah saw a note: โ€œWent to the set. I have night scenes, so I might not come back if it gets late.โ€ Even after reading it, a sense of loss lingered.

โ€œYou only care about Sienna. What about yourself?โ€ Howard gave him a sideways glance, casually peeling the apple.

โ€œMe?โ€ Josiah was taken aback. โ€œWhat about me?โ€

โ€œYouโ€™ve rested enough, havenโ€™t you?โ€ Howard pointed to Josiahโ€™s head. โ€œOnce youโ€™re discharged, go back to work. You canโ€™t keep loafing around.โ€

Josiah stared at Howard, confused. โ€œHoward, what did you just say?โ€
