Chapter 379
Holding Sienna close, Josiah felt everything else fade into insignificance. He would have his own family, his own loved ones. The heart that had felt shattered for days was finally home.
โSiennaโฆโ His voice trailed off as Siennaโs phone rang. โOne call,โ Sienna said, gently disengaging from his embrace and moving toward the door. โIโll take this outside.โ
โOkay.โ Assuming it was the film crew, Josiah nodded, unconcerned. He was wrong; it wasnโt the crew. It was the hospital lab, likely with the compatibility test results.
โHello,โ Sienna said, stepping outside, her heart pounding, breath held tight. โThis is Sienna.โ
The doctor said, โThe compatibility test results are back. Itโs a match.โ
Sienna was stunned, tears blurring her vision. โIt is,โ she whispered, overcome with emotion.
The doctor, sensing her feelings, replied with a hint of a smile, โItโs true, wonderful news. Your child can be saved.โ
Sienna covered her mouth, fighting back tears. โThank you,โ she managed.
โYouโre welcome,โ the doctor responded. โThe person you should thank is the gentleman who matched. For specifics, please speak with Dr. Nelson.โ
โAlright.โ After hanging up, Sienna clutched her trembling phone. Initially, she hadn't dared to hope. Even she and Josiah hadn't matched with Joyce, and Conner was only her uncle. Unexpectedly, it had matched. Joyce could be saved.
Thinking of Conner, Sienna dialed his number. โDid the results come out?โ she asked.
โSienna,โ Conner replied quickly, knowing the results were due.
โYes,โ Sienna answered, gripping the phone, a complex mix of emotions surging towards him.
โHow did it go?โ Connerโs tone was urgent. โDid it work?โ
โYes,โ Sienna said slowly, clearly.
โIt matched?โ Connerโs voice rose with excitement. โIt really matched? Thatโs amazing! Sienna, you wonโt be in danger anymore. I can save you. Youโll be okay, safe and healthy, and live well.โ
Hearing his excited voice, Siennaโs eyes welled up.
Conner, sensing her silence, sounded concerned. โSienna, are you there? Can you hear me?โ
โConner,โ Sienna said, her voice thick with emotion, โthank you.โ
โWhy do you keep saying that?โ Conner said, his displeasure tinged with undeniable joy. โA brother protects his sister. Itโs what Iโm supposed to do.โ
After a moment, he asked, โWhen are we going to the hospital? Shouldnโt the surgery be as soon as possible? Should we start making arrangements?โ
Sienna replied calmly, โI need to check with the doctor first, see what needs to be arranged.โ
โOf course!โ Conner answered immediately. โIโll be waiting for your call.โ
Sienna replied, โAlright.โ
Before hanging up, Conner added with a smile, โSienna, cheer up. Youโre still so young; you have a long life ahead. The tough times are behind you. From now on, itโs only good days.โ
โYeah.โ After hanging up, Sienna closed her eyes, tears streaming down her cheeks. โHopefully, Joyce will be blessed and live a new life,โ she thought.
She wiped her tears, washed her face, and returned to the hospital room. Josiahโs neck was stiff from waiting. โWhat took you so long? Did the crew call you back?โ
โNo,โ Sienna shook her head, sitting beside the bed. โI donโt have any scenes today, so I didnโt need to go back.โ
โSo that means you can spend the whole day with me?โ The anticipation in his eyes was clear.
Sienna hesitated, then nodded. โYes.โ
โThatโs wonderful,โ Josiah smiled, taking her hand. โSienna, youโre amazing.โ
Sienna smiled gently.
Josiah looked at her with earnest eyes. โSienna, donโt worry, I can take care of you and Joyce. Iโll make sure you both have a good life. The alimony I gave you was earned by myself. When Iโm out of the hospital, weโll plan the wedding. You, Joyce, and meโweโll be a family.โ He excitedly detailed his plans.
Sienna interrupted, โAlright, youโve just gotten better and youโre already fussing? After this IV, you should be sleepy. Lie down and rest. The more you sleep, the faster youโll recover.โ
โOkay,โ Josiah obediently quieted, nodding. โIโll listen to you.โ
Sienna helped him lie down. โClose your eyes and sleep.โ
โDonโt go,โ he said.
โI wonโt,โ she replied.
Satisfied, he closed his eyes and slept soundly. The room fell silent. Sienna watched his peaceful face, lost in thought.
Josiah remained in the hospital all day. The next morning, Sienna left early for the set, leaving him asleep. When he awoke, he found Howard sitting by his bed, peeling an apple.
โHoward, why are you here?โ Josiah asked.
Howard paused, glared at Josiah. โWhat? You donโt want to see me? Am I some sort of dirty thing?โ
โThatโs not what I meant,โ Josiah shook his head, looking around anxiously.
โStop looking,โ Howard said. โSiennaโs on set. Look at you, acting all pitiful.โ He pointed to the bedside table. โShe left you a note.โ
Josiah saw a note: โWent to the set. I have night scenes, so I might not come back if it gets late.โ Even after reading it, a sense of loss lingered.
โYou only care about Sienna. What about yourself?โ Howard gave him a sideways glance, casually peeling the apple.
โMe?โ Josiah was taken aback. โWhat about me?โ
โYouโve rested enough, havenโt you?โ Howard pointed to Josiahโs head. โOnce youโre discharged, go back to work. You canโt keep loafing around.โ
Josiah stared at Howard, confused. โHoward, what did you just say?โ
