Chapter 75
Sama didn't look across the street and got straight into Cedric's car. Seeing the car drive away, Josiah could do nothing, remaining silent, and broke the phone in half.
After a while, Cedric gestured to Sienna and said, “There’s a bag in the back seat. Can you get it?”
Sienna replied, “Okay.”
Sienna paused, then turned and reached for the bag. She found it a bit heavy but wasn’t sure what was inside. She asked, “Do you want me to open it for you?”
“Yes,” Cedric nodded.
“Alright.” Sienna opened it, finding a thermal box, like those used for food deliveries. Lifting the lid, she saw a bowl of pumpkin soup.
Sienna looked up at Cedric, puzzled. “Is this…?”
Cedric chuckled. “Pumpkin soup, your favorite, right?”
“Yes,” said Sienna. She recalled Cedric buying it for her once. However, at that time, because of Josiah, she didn’t get to enjoy it.
“Go ahead,” Seeing Sienna hesitate, Cedric nodded encouragingly. “I bought it just for you.”
Hearing that, Sienna felt a bit shy. Earlier, she had thought that Cedric might like her, but Cedric was a rich boy and a frequenter of Maze, probably like Ryan, showing only passing interest.
Sienna didn’t pretend to be poor. Since Joyce’s surgery fees were covered, there was no need for her to sell herself anymore. After all, that was a last resort.
Seeing Sienna still not moving, Cedric became a little anxious. “What’s wrong? Don’t you like it?”
“No,” Sienna snapped back to reality, smiling gently. “It’s just that eating in the car isn’t the best idea, right? It might leave a smell.”
“What smell?” Cedric raised an eyebrow. “Sweet! That’s a good thing.”
Sienna was taken aback, then laughed genuinely. “Okay, I’ll eat then.”
“Yeah, go ahead,” said Cedric.
Sienna opened the lid, and a fresh sweetness wafted into her nose, making her sniff deeply. She scooped some into her mouth. “Yummy, so sweet.”
“Oh good,” Cedric glanced at Sienna through the rearview mirror. The corners of his mouth lifted, and his cheeks felt a little hot.
The car stopped at the intersection at Lyceum Street. Sienna got out of the car and said, “Here’s my home, and thanks for driving me back.”
“You live here?” Cedric was surprised. He thought Sienna lived at the Flynn residence.
“Yes,” Sienna understood his confusion and explained, “Miranda just came home after surgery, so I had to stay with her for a couple of days. I’m not part of the Flynn family, so I can’t stay there forever.”
Hearing this, Cedric felt secretly delighted because he realized Sienna really had nothing to do with Josiah. Cedric had a smile on his face and said, “You’re right.”
“Time to head out,” Sienna waved at him. “Be careful on the road, and good night.”
“Alright, good night,” said Cedric.
Turning around, Sienna jogged into the alley. She used her phone as a light when entering the apartment building, reached the fifth floor, unlocked her door, and turned on the light. Then, she turned around to close the door.
Just as the door was about to close, a hand suddenly slapped against it, stopping her. Sienna was both shocked and frightened. She widened her eyes and saw Josiah, who had chased her to her house.
Josiah pressed his thin lips together tightly, his deep eyes fixed on her. “I told you to wait for me. Why did you get in someone else’s car?”
Without waiting for her reply, Josiah raised his hand, pinching her chin. “Are you embarrassed to refuse him? That’s not a good habit. It might lead to unnecessary misunderstandings.”
Sienna wondered what Josiah had seen and what he was talking about. Blinking in confusion, Sienna blurted out, “You’re wrong. I got in his car just…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Josiah frowned and let out a low hum as his pinch on her chin tightened. Josiah looked down, his gaze deep. “Do you want to go with him? Do you know what you’re saying?”
His gaze lingered on her face with a self-satisfied smile, which made Sienna swallow and ask, “What’s wrong? Can’t I get into his car?”
Finally, Josiah couldn’t hold back and said irritably, “Sienna, I had told you I would pick you up.”
“But I didn’t ask you to pick me up,” Sienna lifted her chin defiantly. “I don’t need you. Stop doing this from now on.”
For a moment, Josiah’s expression changed slightly. He couldn’t believe what he heard and remained silent for a long time.
Josiah let out a short laugh, staring intently at her. “Don’t tell me you have feelings for Cedric. You like him?”
“Yes,” Without a moment’s hesitation, almost as if it were undeniable, Sienna replied. She was afraid he didn’t hear clearly and continued, “Yes, I like him. Is there something wrong?”
“You…” Josiah paused. His eyes seemed to spark with a bluish flame. “Say it again?”
Sienna felt no fear of him at all and met his gaze confidently. “Yes, I like Cedric. Is that wrong? He treats me well. Even my grandma said he’s great, and we are a good match. He’s outstanding, comes from a noble family, and…”
“Shut up!” Josiah shouted. Hearing Sienna keep praising Cedric, Josiah’s anger boiled over like lava, unable to be contained.
He restrained himself repeatedly, his face incredibly gloomy as he stared at her with no expression. “So soon, you fell for him. Is your love so cheap? As long as a man, right?”
A few days ago, Sienna said she liked that older man Ryan, and now she’s switched to Cedric. Josiah’s anger kept growing stronger.
“Sienna, don’t you like me?” Josiah tensed up, unable to resist wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her into his embrace.
“Haven’t you liked me for many years? Do you love Cedric as much as you love me?” Josiah’s hands tenderly held her face.
Sienna was very familiar with this action. Just as Josiah lowered his head to kiss her, Sienna quickly turned her face to avoid the kiss.
“Sienna…” Josiah’s expression grew even darker when he found Sienna was avoiding him.
Sienna breathed heavily with fear, watching him warily. “Well, I used to really love you, but you rejected me. Aren’t you disgusting to me!”
Suddenly, Josiah was stunned and rigid. He couldn’t argue back because he used to really dislike her.
Seizing the chance that he was stunned, Sienna forcefully pushed him, shoving him out the door. “You shouldn’t be here, and please leave now. By the way, don’t come here again.”
With that, Sienna slammed the door shut with a bang. Josiah stood dazed for quite a while, not moving at all.
