Chapter 94
Sienna interrupted, holding up her phone. โExcuse me, whoโs paying? Iโll cover it.โ
George was startled, glancing instinctively at Josiah. โWhatโs going on?โ he wondered.
Josiah smiled, exuding refinement. His tone was detached and laced with sarcasm. โYou pay? Donโt be ridiculous. Itโs just a toy. Why would she need to pay for it?โ he thought, well aware Sienna hadnโt accepted alimony, and her meager earnings from dancing at Maze were insufficient.
โKeep your paycheck. Iโll take care of it,โ he said.
โI want to pay!โ Sienna insisted, summoning her courage. โIf you donโt let me, I donโt want this Minnie Mouse anymore!โ
Josiahโs gaze softened. She canโt bear to let it go, can she? he thought, noting her captivated gaze since theyโd arrived. He understood her desire for independence and to avoid further entanglement. Fine. Let her have her way, he decided. His interference had disrupted her plans; earning her gratitude this way seemed pointless.
โAlright,โ he conceded, his tone indulgently playful. โYou pay, as long as it makes you happy!โ
Sienna brightened, missing the irony. โGeorge, are we paying or not?โ
โThis way, please,โ George replied, bewildered. What a confusing relationship. Oh well, Iโll just focus on my job, he thought.
โCash or card?โ George asked.
โCard,โ Sienna replied promptly.
โGot it,โ George said. โThe original price is $13,000. The staff discount brings it down to $7,000, and since youโre a friend of Mr. Flynn, Iโll offer you the wholesale price of $5,000. Please swipe your card.โ
Wait, how much? $5,000? Siennaโs mind raced. Thatโs an $8,000 discount! Overwhelmed, she almost wept. โThank you, thank you so much!โ
โNo need to thank me,โ George replied modestly. โYou should thank Mr. Flynn.โ
Sienna understood. As she swiped her card, Josiah caught a glimpse of the price, raising a surprised eyebrow. $13,000 for a toy! This thing! he thought. While itโs not expensive for me, no ordinary family could afford this. He chuckled. Doesnโt matter. These days, Iโm doing just fine without the Flynn family. Even the alimony had been his own earnings. Supporting Sienna wouldnโt be an issue. Heโd rather pay than risk a tantrum or worse.
Suddenly, Josiah touched his neck. The spot where Sienna had bitten him still stung.
Sienna hesitated. Was it really that bad? Did I bite him that hard? she wondered. She bit her lip, guilt flashing across her face. โDoes it hurt?โ
โIf it hurts, would you feel bad for me?โ he teased, smirking playfully.
Sienna instantly regretted her question.
โHumph,โ Josiah muttered, feigning disappointment. โYouโre the one who bit me. Is a little concern too much to ask?โ He removed his hand, revealing a small, clear bite mark with a faint trace of blood.
George caught sight of it and felt envious. These rich people really know how to have fun, donโt they? he wondered. Was this some kind of after-fight pastime?
Oblivious, Sienna asked, โDo you have a first-aid kit here?โ The wound seemed serious.
George glanced at Josiah, met with a sharp look that silenced him. โNo. Weโre not a pharmacy. Why would we have a first-aid kit?โ he declared firmly. Even if we did, Iโd still say no, he thought.
Sienna, unsuspecting, turned to Josiah apologetically. โMaybe we can find a nearby pharmacy!โ
โFine,โ Josiah said, satisfied she wasnโt ignoring him.
Just then, the staff appeared with the Minnie Mouse toy, looking to George for instructions. โWho should we give this to?โ
โGive it to me,โ Sienna said, reaching out.
โWait a second,โ Josiah said, giving her a pointed glance. โWhat does this have to do with you?โ He held out his hand. โGive it to me.โ
โOf course, Mr. Flynn,โ the staff member said, handing over the 26-inch-high box, which Josiah carried easily.
The sight of Josiah carrying a toy box was comical, causing Sienna to chuckle.
โHuh?โ Josiah looked down, eyebrows raised. โYouโre laughing at me?โ
Sienna stifled her laughter. โNo, not at all.โ
Josiah didnโt believe her, but she looked beautiful smiling, so he let it slide. โGo ahead and laugh,โ he said. โYou know, you look better when you smile. When you cry, youโre absolutely hideous. Donโt cry anymore, got it?โ
Sienna turned her head away. Hideous? I shouldnโt care. In his eyes, only Yvette is beautiful, she thought.
Luckily, a pharmacy was nearby.
โYou should let Zaid go buy it,โ Sienna suggested. โIโll just head home first.โ
โDonโt you dare!โ Josiahโs temper flared. โYou bit me, and you want Zaid to know? Thatโd be humiliating!โ
โHey,โ Sienna hissed, flapping her hands nervously. โLower your voice!โ It was late; heโd wake the entire street, or worse, attract the police.
She caved. โFine. Iโll go. Happy now?โ
โHumph,โ Josiah scoffed. โAs you should.โ
Inside the pharmacy, Josiah sat while Sienna bought Betadine swabs and bandages. Returning, she gestured to him. โUnbutton your collar. Otherwise, the Betadine will stain it.โ
โYou do it,โ Josiah stretched out on the bench, looking relaxed. Fine, I have saved $8,000 today thanks to him. I could tolerate this much, she thought. Sienna gritted her teeth, took a deep breath, and unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt.
As her fingers brushed against his Adamโs apple, Sienna froze. Itโs my fault, after all.
Josiahโs expression darkened, his voice dropping to a rasp. โYou did that on purpose, didnโt you?โ Doesnโt he know how sensitive a manโs Adamโs apple is? he thought.
โIโm not overthinking it,โ Sienna replied calmly. She opened the Betadine and leaned closer to his neck. โDonโt move. Iโm disinfectingโฆโ
