Chapter 94

Sienna interrupted, holding up her phone. โ€œExcuse me, whoโ€™s paying? Iโ€™ll cover it.โ€

George was startled, glancing instinctively at Josiah. โ€œWhatโ€™s going on?โ€ he wondered.

Josiah smiled, exuding refinement. His tone was detached and laced with sarcasm. โ€œYou pay? Donโ€™t be ridiculous. Itโ€™s just a toy. Why would she need to pay for it?โ€ he thought, well aware Sienna hadnโ€™t accepted alimony, and her meager earnings from dancing at Maze were insufficient.

โ€œKeep your paycheck. Iโ€™ll take care of it,โ€ he said.

โ€œI want to pay!โ€ Sienna insisted, summoning her courage. โ€œIf you donโ€™t let me, I donโ€™t want this Minnie Mouse anymore!โ€

Josiahโ€™s gaze softened. She canโ€™t bear to let it go, can she? he thought, noting her captivated gaze since theyโ€™d arrived. He understood her desire for independence and to avoid further entanglement. Fine. Let her have her way, he decided. His interference had disrupted her plans; earning her gratitude this way seemed pointless.

โ€œAlright,โ€ he conceded, his tone indulgently playful. โ€œYou pay, as long as it makes you happy!โ€

Sienna brightened, missing the irony. โ€œGeorge, are we paying or not?โ€

โ€œThis way, please,โ€ George replied, bewildered. What a confusing relationship. Oh well, Iโ€™ll just focus on my job, he thought.

โ€œCash or card?โ€ George asked.

โ€œCard,โ€ Sienna replied promptly.

โ€œGot it,โ€ George said. โ€œThe original price is $13,000. The staff discount brings it down to $7,000, and since youโ€™re a friend of Mr. Flynn, Iโ€™ll offer you the wholesale price of $5,000. Please swipe your card.โ€

Wait, how much? $5,000? Siennaโ€™s mind raced. Thatโ€™s an $8,000 discount! Overwhelmed, she almost wept. โ€œThank you, thank you so much!โ€

โ€œNo need to thank me,โ€ George replied modestly. โ€œYou should thank Mr. Flynn.โ€

Sienna understood. As she swiped her card, Josiah caught a glimpse of the price, raising a surprised eyebrow. $13,000 for a toy! This thing! he thought. While itโ€™s not expensive for me, no ordinary family could afford this. He chuckled. Doesnโ€™t matter. These days, Iโ€™m doing just fine without the Flynn family. Even the alimony had been his own earnings. Supporting Sienna wouldnโ€™t be an issue. Heโ€™d rather pay than risk a tantrum or worse.

Suddenly, Josiah touched his neck. The spot where Sienna had bitten him still stung.

Sienna hesitated. Was it really that bad? Did I bite him that hard? she wondered. She bit her lip, guilt flashing across her face. โ€œDoes it hurt?โ€

โ€œIf it hurts, would you feel bad for me?โ€ he teased, smirking playfully.

Sienna instantly regretted her question.

โ€œHumph,โ€ Josiah muttered, feigning disappointment. โ€œYouโ€™re the one who bit me. Is a little concern too much to ask?โ€ He removed his hand, revealing a small, clear bite mark with a faint trace of blood.

George caught sight of it and felt envious. These rich people really know how to have fun, donโ€™t they? he wondered. Was this some kind of after-fight pastime?

Oblivious, Sienna asked, โ€œDo you have a first-aid kit here?โ€ The wound seemed serious.

George glanced at Josiah, met with a sharp look that silenced him. โ€œNo. Weโ€™re not a pharmacy. Why would we have a first-aid kit?โ€ he declared firmly. Even if we did, Iโ€™d still say no, he thought.

Sienna, unsuspecting, turned to Josiah apologetically. โ€œMaybe we can find a nearby pharmacy!โ€

โ€œFine,โ€ Josiah said, satisfied she wasnโ€™t ignoring him.

Just then, the staff appeared with the Minnie Mouse toy, looking to George for instructions. โ€œWho should we give this to?โ€

โ€œGive it to me,โ€ Sienna said, reaching out.

โ€œWait a second,โ€ Josiah said, giving her a pointed glance. โ€œWhat does this have to do with you?โ€ He held out his hand. โ€œGive it to me.โ€

โ€œOf course, Mr. Flynn,โ€ the staff member said, handing over the 26-inch-high box, which Josiah carried easily.

The sight of Josiah carrying a toy box was comical, causing Sienna to chuckle.

โ€œHuh?โ€ Josiah looked down, eyebrows raised. โ€œYouโ€™re laughing at me?โ€

Sienna stifled her laughter. โ€œNo, not at all.โ€

Josiah didnโ€™t believe her, but she looked beautiful smiling, so he let it slide. โ€œGo ahead and laugh,โ€ he said. โ€œYou know, you look better when you smile. When you cry, youโ€™re absolutely hideous. Donโ€™t cry anymore, got it?โ€

Sienna turned her head away. Hideous? I shouldnโ€™t care. In his eyes, only Yvette is beautiful, she thought.

Luckily, a pharmacy was nearby.

โ€œYou should let Zaid go buy it,โ€ Sienna suggested. โ€œIโ€™ll just head home first.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t you dare!โ€ Josiahโ€™s temper flared. โ€œYou bit me, and you want Zaid to know? Thatโ€™d be humiliating!โ€

โ€œHey,โ€ Sienna hissed, flapping her hands nervously. โ€œLower your voice!โ€ It was late; heโ€™d wake the entire street, or worse, attract the police.

She caved. โ€œFine. Iโ€™ll go. Happy now?โ€

โ€œHumph,โ€ Josiah scoffed. โ€œAs you should.โ€

Inside the pharmacy, Josiah sat while Sienna bought Betadine swabs and bandages. Returning, she gestured to him. โ€œUnbutton your collar. Otherwise, the Betadine will stain it.โ€

โ€œYou do it,โ€ Josiah stretched out on the bench, looking relaxed. Fine, I have saved $8,000 today thanks to him. I could tolerate this much, she thought. Sienna gritted her teeth, took a deep breath, and unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt.

As her fingers brushed against his Adamโ€™s apple, Sienna froze. Itโ€™s my fault, after all.

Josiahโ€™s expression darkened, his voice dropping to a rasp. โ€œYou did that on purpose, didnโ€™t you?โ€ Doesnโ€™t he know how sensitive a manโ€™s Adamโ€™s apple is? he thought.

โ€œIโ€™m not overthinking it,โ€ Sienna replied calmly. She opened the Betadine and leaned closer to his neck. โ€œDonโ€™t move. Iโ€™m disinfectingโ€ฆโ€
