Chapter 7

At the hospital, the moment Dylan stepped through the door, Anne threw herself into his arms. She clung to him like a rag doll, trembling. “Dylan, I feel awful… so terrible…”

“Where does it hurt?” Dylan tried to push her away, but she clung tighter.

“Everywhere…” Anne moaned, placing his hand on her chest. “Especially here, it feels like bugs crawling under my skin—itching, unbearable. Mr. Dylan, please help me!”

Her behavior was clearly abnormal. “I’ll call the doctor.”

“No, I don’t want a doctor. I want you.” Anne clung to him like a vine, her hands restlessly undoing his shirt buttons. “Please, Mr. Dylan, help me, I feel like I’m dying. If you don’t help me, I really will…”

As her fingers worked on his buttons, Dylan grabbed her wrists. “Anne, calm down…”

“I can’t calm down…” She leaned in, trying to kiss him, whispering his name repeatedly.

Just as she was about to kiss him, Dylan forcefully pushed her away, sending her sprawling to the floor. His resistance was clear, even without words. A flicker of coldness flashed in Anne’s eyes, replaced a moment later by sadness.

“Mr. Dylan, do you hate me?”

Dylan didn’t respond, nor did he help her up. He turned away. “I’m calling a doctor.”

Anne refused to let him leave. She scrambled to her feet and wrapped herself around him from behind. “I told you, I don’t want a doctor. I want you! Please, Mr. Dylan, take me…”

“Anne, something is clearly wrong with you,” Dylan said, his lips pressed into a thin line. “You need to see a doctor.”

“No doctor can help me. Only you can save me.” She began stripping off her clothes. “Please, save me. I’m begging you.”

Just as Anne thought she’d succeeded, a sharp pain shot through her head, and she crumpled to the floor, unconscious.

Watching from the wardrobe, Suzy retracted the silver needle she’d been prepared to throw. It wasn’t about helping Dylan; she couldn’t bear to watch. The scene was almost unbearable. She hadn’t expected Dylan’s reaction. Anne was supposed to be the woman he loved most. Suzy couldn’t understand why he’d knocked her out.

Dylan scooped Anne into his arms, laid her on the bed, and pressed the call button for the doctor.

When the doctor arrived, Dylan explained the situation. “Is this related to the poison in her system?”

After a quick examination, the doctor nodded. “Yes, you’re right. The poison is highly unusual. The last time it flared up, nothing like this happened. Now, it’s escalated, and who knows what could happen next. We need to detox her immediately.”

Dylan frowned, considering the doctor’s words. There had been no word from Red Falcon. Desmond had been trying to reach her for days, without success.

Detoxing Anne proved difficult. For the first time, he felt manipulated by a woman who had him completely under her control.

With a tight jaw, Dylan commanded, “For now, find a way to alleviate her symptoms.”

“That’s going to be difficult…” the doctor began. “This poison is unlike anything I’ve encountered. I’m concerned that the wrong medication could worsen her condition. So…” He paused. “The safest way to relieve her symptoms might be for you, Mr. Wright, to help Miss Anne personally.”

“Absolutely not!” Dylan didn’t hesitate. “If it comes to that, we’ll use sedatives.”

“But that might not be safe either…”

“At least that way, she’ll maintain her dignity,” Dylan muttered, looking at the unconscious Anne. “I can’t let her lose her honor.”

It wasn’t that he wouldn’t touch her; he simply didn’t want her ridiculed.

Suzy’s mind flashed back to a day she’d gone to his office. His employees had mistaken her for the maid, and he hadn’t corrected them. They’d been married for three years, and he’d never shown her the respect she deserved. Yet, he shielded Anne constantly.

Suzy didn’t want to compare, but moments like this always forced the issue. Why was she even watching this? She needed to leave.

An opportunity arose. The doctor left, and Dylan’s phone rang. To avoid waking Anne, he stepped out. Seizing her chance, Suzy slipped from the wardrobe. But Dylan returned.

Their eyes met. The air stilled.

Suzy reacted swiftly, darting toward the balcony. Dylan was faster, closing the distance. Just as she was about to jump, his hand caught her shoulder, pulling her back.

“Speak. Who sent you?”

Suzy laughed coldly. “The hospital is public. I’m allowed to come and go. Do I need your permission?” She wasn’t worried about him recognizing her voice. She always used a voice modifier—a long-standing habit, not specifically to hide from him. Maintaining anonymity was a necessity. Though she wore only a simple mask today, Dylan wouldn’t recognize her.

“So, you think you can just come and go, huh…” Dylan’s grip tightened, his voice growing colder. “Since you’re here, why don’t you stay awhile?”

“The wind’s pretty strong tonight—careful you don’t bite your tongue!” Suzy dodged his grip, throwing a sharp punch.

Dylan effortlessly dodged her attack. They engaged in a fierce fight, trading blows. Neither gained the upper hand.

Dylan chuckled, “Not bad.”

Suzy smirked. “You’re not too shabby yourself, Mr. Wright.”

His eyes flashed dangerously. He changed tactics, aiming for her abdomen. Suzy shifted her defense, but Dylan unexpectedly reached for her mask instead.
