Chapter 106

Cole pulled up in front of his father's mansion. He got out of the car and made his way toward the entrance. Before he pressed the doorbell, the door opened, revealing Nora, the housekeeper. "Hey, Nora."

"Good day, Mr. Cole."

"Is my dad in?"

"Yes, he's in the library."

"Thank you." Cole smiled and made his way to the library. He knocked, then entered. Cole found Moore sitting behind his desk, his phone glued to his ear.

Seeing his father was busy, Cole gently closed the door. He went to the minibar area and poured himself a drink. With a glass of wine in hand, he went to the chair opposite his father, sat, and sipped his drink until Moore finished his call.

"Hey, son."

"Good to see you looking so radiant!" Cole smiled, taking another sip.

"Thank you! You don't look bad either."

"So, are you still doing business with Eric?" Cole asked, referring to the conversation he'd overheard.

"No. We're only partners in Summer Incorporation, and since Hailey owns it now, I know we're in good hands. He's been trying to meet with me lately, but I've been busy."

"Will you make time for him?" Cole stared intently at his father.

"I don't know. The past month has been a rollercoaster. He brought this doom upon himself by marrying that woman, but I think the past couple of days must have been extremely lonely for him, too. He's filled with regrets and now he's lost everything. Connie stole from him before she left. I hope he hangs in there and doesn't do anything stupid."

Chapter 106

"How close were you to Hailey's mother? Were you aware when Eric decided to take a second wife?"

"Hailey's mother and I weren't really close. But I knew her to be a calm woman. Whenever we had our gatherings, Eric came alone; he never brought her. When he started coming with a partner, it turned out to be Connie."

Moore seemed lost in thought. "I never understood why he took a second wife. We knew he loved Hailey's mother, but he lost it when he saw Connie. Then she got pregnant, and he married her."

"Do you have any idea how Hailey's mother died?"

Moore shook his head. "I was on a trip when Eric told me she'd passed away a few days earlier. He didn't say much about the cause. Why do you ask?"

"Vanessa confessed that Connie might have something to do with it. And I want justice for my woman."

"Even if Connie is arrested, I doubt she'll confess. She's very cunning. No doubt her name fits her well."

"I don't care. I just want justice for Hailey."

"You will get justice, son. Once Connie is apprehended, everything else will fall into place. We could talk to Eric, but I doubt he'll know much. He was insanely in love with Connie; he never saw anything wrong in what she did."

Cole sighed, placing his empty cup on his father's desk. "This is insane. I hope they get her soon."

"I know they will."

"By the way, how's Hailey doing? She's really strong. And how was your trip?"

"Hailey is doing well, and congratulations to me for being a lucky guy because she accepted my proposal."

Moore smiled. "I had a feeling that was going to happen when you said you were going on vacation without the kids. Congratulations, son! I'm so happy. Were you nervous?"

"Of course I was." Cole blushed. "I don't know what I would have done if she'd refused me."

"She loves you too much; it was obvious the day we were at the station. I'm glad you have someone like her. Please take good care of her."

Cole nodded.

"We want to know when you'll be available to meet your grandchildren?" Moore's smile widened. "Sure, I'm ready, anytime."

"Is tomorrow fine? We can come over for dinner."

"Sure! I'll have the chef cook something good."

"I'll have to get gifts for Ollie and Enzo, right?"

"Don't tell me you're nervous?" Moore said with a smile.

"I definitely am. I don't get to be around kids that much, and I want to make a good first impression."

"I understand." Cole chuckled. "I felt the same way, but just be yourself. And you can get them anything."

"Yeah, I'm excited, too. I'll go to a gift shop later today."

"What was the best part about having me?" Cole asked unexpectedly.

"What do you mean?"

Cole shrugged. "From the moment Mom told you she was pregnant until the day I was born, and beyond."

A sad smile touched Moore's lips. "Your mother and I cried when we found out. She'd been sick, so I took her to the hospital. We were so happy. Then the next day, I got nervous. I was happy but nervous about being enough for you and your mother. But your mother was positive. She assured me we'd be fine."

"We did everything together. I never missed a doctor's appointment; we did all your shopping together; I helped plan the baby shower, and we decorated your room."

"No matter how much I prepared, nothing prepared me for labor. I was terrified. Seeing your mom in pain was awful, but I couldn't ease it. But then you came out and filled our lives with so much joy."

Cole saw tears in his eyes. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't bring this up, knowing you miss Mom."

"No, it's fine. Your mom always has a special place in my heart, and I miss her every day. Besides, why the question? You've never asked something like this."

Cole scratched the back of his neck.

"You're going to be a grandfather again. I wasn't there when the twins were born, so this is almost my first time. I'm happy and nervous, so I thought I should ask for some tips." Moore's smile grew. He stood, went to his son, pulled him up, and hugged him.

"Wow!" he chuckled. "This is great news, son! Congratulations!"

"Thank you, Dad." Cole smiled, returning the hug. They pulled away, still smiling.

"I'm so happy for you and Hailey. May God bless and keep you both healthy and happy."

Cole blushed. "Amen. Thank you."

"And you don't need to be nervous. You'll do just fine."

Cole nodded.
