Chapter 75
"Getting a ring isn't the problem. You just need to pick the most beautiful one you see. And you were so funny when you spoke about measuring her finger while she slept. I'm impressed that you've thought it all through."
"I know it's normal to be nervous, but whenever you feel uneasy, just try to have faith in the love you feel for your woman."
"I spoke to her yesterday, and with the way she was all over you, I'm even more convinced that you are very special to her. It might take a while for her to say those words back to you, but that doesn't mean she doesn't feel the same way. So it shouldn't stop you from anything you have in mind."
Cole massaged his temple. "I think I'm going to get a ring first."
"Yes, silly! That's going to be the basis of your proposal. And don't act suspicious around your woman. Make it a worthwhile surprise." Cole nodded.
"Everything feels so different."
"Of course, it's going to be. The first marriage was forced and lasted less than ten minutes. Hailey managed to put up a smile, but you, on the other hand, were such a handful. You weren't polite, and you hardly smiled."
Cole ran his fingers through his hair, staring at Jess. "I was an a**hole, right?"
"Yeah, you were! A big one! But don't be discouraged. You're paying for your sins already."
Cole rolled his eyes at Jessica.
She chuckled, brought her hand towards his, and gave him a light squeeze. "I'm proud of how you're handling everything. I wish you and Hailey so much happiness."
"I do too. That's why I want to make sure I neutralize Vanessa."
"You don't have to stress over her. Don't let her rob you of your joy."
Cole shook his head. "I'm only concerned about my family's welfare."
"There's a restraining order, which means she's going to be the first suspect should anything happen to you all. I believe she won't mess with you because of that. I'm certain she wouldn't survive a day in jail."
"I think my mind is a mess because I fear she might become even more brutal when she finds out about Ollie and Enzo."
Jess shook her head. "She will be dealt with before then. Please don't think about her. Everything about Vanessa screams unhappiness, and I don't want anything to tamper with your joy." Cole nodded.
"So when are you going to get the ring?" Jessica grinned, staring at her best friend intently.
Debbie burst into a peal of satisfied laughter after hearing that her godchildren almost caught Hailey and Cole making love.
"Don't laugh. You're embarrassing me." Hailey blushed, bringing the mug of hot chocolate to her lips and taking a sip. The duo were sitting side by side on the couch.
"This is the most refreshing gossip I've ever heard."
Chapter 75
"Warn your godchildren that my room is now off-limits."
Debbie chuckled, wiping tiny tears from the corner of her eyes. "So what now? You're supporting Cole over them?"
Hailey shook her head, wrapping both hands around her mug. "They're all my boys. Sometimes I used to think I would have some sort of support if one of the twins was a girl."
Debbie smiled. "Be careful what you wish for."
Hailey blushed. "You're the one who keeps overthinking. Anyway, I wouldn't trade my boys for anything in the world. They make me happy. Sometimes I think they plan against me—in a cute way, though."
"But I was so embarrassed," Hailey chuckled. "I almost wanted to disappear. Cole and I were literally naked under the duvet. You know how curious Ollie and Enzo can be. I was sure I was never going to hear the end of it."
"You should have seen their faces! I mean, they come to your room almost every morning," Debbie said, smiling.
"They do, but lately they've stopped. Today was a shocker. Plus, I tend to lose track of time when Cole is around. It's almost as if it's just me and him, and no one else."
"Awww! I wish you could see yourself the way you talk about him."
"I'm silly, right?"
Debbie shook her head. "You're just a woman who is so much in love. You don't need to feel bad about it."
"So how did you all settle your plight?"
Hailey shrugged. "Cole took care of it while I hid under the duvet, facing the other side. It was scary and exciting."
"I now understand better when people say kids ruin some good moments."
Hailey blushed. "Maybe. I guess I didn't plan well, either. I mean, Cole was meant to return to his place last night, but I just couldn't let him go. It felt really safe having him close to me for the night. I felt like a baby."
"I'm glad he makes you feel that way. You literally take care of everyone around you, so it feels good to know you and Cole are so crazy for each other."
"It's unbelievable, right? The person I thought I wouldn't have anything to do with. Who would have thought?"
"I don't know how he did it, but he really got me."
"We make up our minds about stuff sometimes, but that doesn't mean it will go the way we want. We can't help who we fall in love with."
"Yeah! I'm proof of that."
Debbie smiled. "You and Cole are so sweet."
Hailey shrugged, trying to hide her blush. "Not really."
"You see yourself spending your forever with him, right?"
"The boys love him so much, so I think he's going to be around for a long time."
Chapter 75
"This isn't about the boys. It's about you."
Hailey shrugged. "I haven't thought deeply about my future. I'm taking it one day at a time. Speaking from my present, I like him, and since we returned from the trip, there's just this urge to always want to be with him. I like how he cares for me and the twins."
"I hope to see you both stay happy forever!" Debbie's sincere voice came through.
