Chapter 26: Damon
A wave of regret washed over me, clenching my fist. "Damn," I thought. I'd never felt this way before.
Luca approached, saying, "Bro, chill out."
I glared at him. "Mind your own business, and I'm not your 'bro'," I muttered, leaving the room. Clara was waiting, her face screwed up in anger. Honestly, she looked like a cute, angry bunny.
"Clara…"
She slapped a hand over my mouth. "No, you're done. It's my turn. I won't let you treat me like this anymore. If you continue, I'll tell your father everything, and you'll never be Alpha King."
She huffed, starting to leave. I grabbed her hand. "How dare you threaten me? If you tell my father, I'll—"
My threat hung in the air, but Clara, my stubborn wife, met my gaze defiantly. "I have nothing to lose. Do what you will, but I'll ruin you first. I'm not afraid of you, Damon. The sooner you learn that, the better. So, what's it going to be? Are you going to stop being a jerk, or will your inheritance be revoked?"
A smirk played on her lips. No one had ever talked to me like that and lived. But Clara… she intrigued me.
"What do you want?" I asked. "I can't promise to be nice, but I'll try."
She stared at me, then huffed. "Your being nice is the least you could do after marrying someone as narcissistic as you."
I scoffed. "You struck gold, Clara. I'm everyone's dream, men and women alike."
She scoffed again. "Not mine. Will you grant my wishes?"
I sighed. "What are they?"
"Wishes? One is too few for someone of your caliber. I want three."
"Fine," I said. "Three wishes. What are they? Hurry up, I'm busy."
"First," she said, grinning, "I want to go shopping for clothes and necessities, and you have to come."
I groaned. "Why? We hate each other's company."
"Exactly," she said. "We need to learn to tolerate each other. We're living together, and your father needs to believe we're a couple so this charade can end. This benefits you more than me. Are you in?"
"She's got a point, boss," Luca chimed in.
I glared at him, then sighed. "Fine. What's your second wish?"
She thought for a moment. "A job."
"No," I said flatly.
She groaned, grabbing my hand. "Why?"
"Why would my wife work? It'll look like I don't provide for you."
"But you don't," she murmured.
"No one needs to know that," I said, pulling my hand away.
She stomped her foot. "It's my wish!"
"You promised," Luca interjected.
I glared at him. "I'll get her a job at the pack house…"
"No," she said. "I want a real job. A bakery or coffee shop."
I raised an eyebrow. "Of all jobs?"
She nodded. "It's cute. Once, I followed Aunt Amelia to…"
"I don't care," I interrupted. "Next wish."
She mumbled something incoherent. "I don't know my third wish yet. Fulfill the first two."
I sighed, turning to Luca. "Check my schedule. When am I least busy?"
"Today, Alpha," Luca replied.
I frowned. "What? I thought…"
"Your presence isn't needed for the signing. I can go in your place, and meet Alpha Jace too. He likes me better."
Clara, already excited, interrupted. "You're free today! I'll get ready." She ran off.
I glared at Luca. "You bastard!"
He grinned. "I'm helping you, Alpha. Maybe you'll fall in love with her."
I scoffed. "Stop it, and get out of my sight." He grinned and ran off.
