Chapter 61 – Damon – 66%

“Let go!” Clara screamed, pushing at my chest. After a while, as if finally regaining her senses, she pushed again, but I held her tightly. “No, don’t push me away. I’m sorry,” I murmured, but she continued shouting and struggling. “Let go!” she screamed again. I refused. “Damon, let go of her! This isn’t good for her health!” Delilah yelled. Finally, I released her.

Clara hurriedly crawled away, curling into a ball and crying by the wall. She looked so small, so broken. Delilah immediately rushed to her, wrapping her arms tightly around her. “Come on, let me take you back inside,” Delilah murmured, gently helping Clara to her feet.

“Clara,” I called, reaching for her, but she flinched and turned away, clinging to Delilah. She was behaving as if I were a monster, capable of killing or infecting her with a single touch. As much as it hurt, I tried to hide my pain.

Delilah pulled Clara into the room. I was about to follow when Luca grabbed my hand. “Give her space. Let her talk to Delilah. She’s not thinking clearly right now, and you’ll only make things worse,” he murmured. I clenched my fist. “Fine. I’ll give her thirty minutes to cool down—no more than that,” I muttered, yanking my hand away and sitting down.

“I’ll take your mother outside to calm her down,” my father said, but I ignored him. He sighed but said nothing more, leading my mother away.

Luca and I sat in silence. I strained to hear anything from Clara—her voice, laughter, cough, anything—but there was only silence. Not knowing what was happening in the room infuriated me.

I was about to get up when Delilah walked out. “I can’t take this anymore,” I muttered, rising. “It’s Liam’s mother,” she said angrily. I knew whatever she was about to say wouldn't be good.

“Liam’s mother?” I asked, standing fully. “Clara said Liam’s mother told her she was barren. Apparently, she’d been trying to conceive with Liam, but it hadn’t worked. Liam’s mother suggested they see a doctor, and then told Clara she was barren. Clara never saw the test results or heard it directly from the doctor. She didn’t question it at the time, thinking that was the reason. That bitch caused all this,” Delilah muttered, clenching her fist. I clenched my jaw.

“I need to talk to Clara,” I murmured, starting to walk past Delilah, but she stopped me by placing a hand on my chest. “She doesn’t want to see you, Damon,” she said. I glared at her, swatting her hand away. “My wife, for crying out loud!” I muttered before entering the room. As soon as Clara saw me, she wiped away her tears and turned away.

“Leave,” she muttered. I sighed. “Clara, just…”
