Chapter 102: Birthday Invitations and Breakups
Summer picked up. โSummer, itโs my birthday today. You coming?โ Caleb asked.
In past years, Trevor had always brought her to Calebโs parties. Beyond her connection to Trevor, Caleb was a decent friend. But Trevor would likely be there, and she didnโt want to see him.
โSorry, Iโll pass. Iโll send a gift later,โ Summer replied.
After a few seconds of silence, Caleb asked, โSummer, is there really no chance for you and Trevor?โ
โYeah, weโre done,โ Summer replied.
Hearing the finality in her voice, Caleb silently mourned for his buddy. โGot it. Youโre not just Trevorโs friend, youโre mine too,โ Caleb said.
After hanging up, Summer transferred a thousand dollars as a present. As she was about to pocket her phone, Yvetteโs voice call came through.
โBabe, Iโve been dumped!โ
Summer held the phone to her ear, glancing at the documents on her desk. โAlright, whoโs the guy this time?โ
โWhy are you so chill? Iโm devastated!โ Yvette asked.
It was rare to hear the usually carefree Yvette upset over a breakup. Summer set down her pen. โWait, did you actually love him?โ
โLove? No way. Iโm just pissed I was dumb enough to date such a jerk. Heโs that model, Quicksilver, from the entertainment world. He cheated with my rival for a lead role. When I caught him, he held a press conference claiming I cheated! Iโm furious. You have no idea; several endorsements and TV deals I was negotiating are on hold now!โ
Summer hadnโt checked the news yet. She opened her laptop and saw the headlines: โPopular actress Yvette caught cheating by boyfriend.โ โYvetteโs background reflects her character.โ โYvette, get out of the entertainment industry.โ
Even as an outsider, Summer knew this was bad, so she asked, โCan I help with anything?โ
Yvetteโs voice deflated. โIโll handle it. Just drink with me tonight.โ
At Havenbrookโs biggest club, Black Ace, Summer arrived to find Yvette halfway through a bottle. Half-drunk, she muttered about how men were trash. Summer could only console her, knowing Yvette well enough that sheโd bounce back by morning.
The VIP room door opened, revealing Trevor at the far end of the sofa. The space pulsed with colorful lights, loud music, and dancing. Expensive liquor bottles littered the tables. Yvette, still half-sober, spotted Trevor and sneered. Leaning into Summerโs car, she whispered, โDonโt worry, Iโve got you.โ
Summer thought, Whoโs protecting who? Yvetteโs drunken antics were unpredictable.
Bobby saw Caleb usher them in. About to kiss the woman beside him, he paused. โWell, if it isnโt the famous Ms. Stewart. Didnโt she dump Trevor? Whatโs this, using Calebโs birthday to crawl back?โ
Trevorโs dark eyes fixed on Summer; his cold face was unreadable. Caleb shot Bobby a warning look. โSheโs my friend. I invited her.โ
Bobby, the spoiled heir of the Stone family, was a cocky brat, pampered by his aging father. He idolized Trevor and despised Summer for ending things, seeing her as fake.
โInvited? When Trevor ignored her before, sheโd bug you for updates on him. Probably regretting it now and pulling the same stunt.โ
Yvette wasnโt having it. โDid you eat garbage? Your words are stinking up the place. Reconciliation? Keep dreaming,โ she snapped, her tone sharp with a hint of drunkenness.
